"Honest and outspoken, honorable and uncompromising, Jubal A. Early epitomized much that was the Southern Confederacy. His self-reliance, courage, sagacity, and devotion to the cause brought confidence then just as it fosters reverence now."

Jubal Early was best known as the "Leader of the Lost Cause". After the war he was the curator of a museum dedicated to the Southern cause, with particular deference or reverence for Gen. Robert E. Lee. He was known to be very vocal in his support for Gen. Lee firmly believing that the South had given up when it should have won, the cause being righteous.

The character Jubal Early was no doubt named by the creators of 'Firefly' to honor the undying support of fans even as FOX stupidly replaced it with "Fast Lane" (what garbage). "Firefly" is full of literary and historical references, and a tremendous work of art. I hope to actually see the series on DVD.

Actually, Nathan Fillion is distantly related to him, so he convinced Joss to name a character after Early.

I have read that elsewhere. That is why I believe that Joss and all named the bounty hunter Jubal Early. What better tribute to the fans than to honor their efforts in this way.
