The Christmas Special was really good. And I'm willing to bet it racked up some huge viewing figures. Well worth seeing when it turns up on the BBC World Service or whatever.

However, I can't see the reasoning behind employing a deaf sound engineer. The music was so loud ALL THE BLOODY TIME you practically needed subtitles.

However, however,it did have an all-time greatest one word description of the earth that was literally stunning.

No spoilers, just Turkey sandwiches for the next week...

G

You wouldn't want to piss off Doctor Ecclestone, would you? Doctor Tennant is just as badass.

Yup. Russel T Davis did good once again. Really good. David Tennant is an excellent time lord. The episode was jam packed with stuff. It was really funny and action packed. It looked like they had a bigger budget this time around too.

There were a few really minor bits of dialogue that were predictable or a little cheesy IMHO, but 'The Christmas invasion' left me with a big smile on my face at the end of it.

An enjoyable hour of brit sci-fi! I was saddened when it was all over. Have to wait until the spring for more. Glad to have it back on the beeb though!

Really looking forward to the second series now!

Been a Who fan since forever; Baker my favorite Doc... Most friends here do not understand it. F*rting aliens & Rose... LOL both something completely dif for the Doc. Best single line lately- calling the Doc 'A U-boat skipper'!:]

Looking forward to seeing the Christmas special, thanks for the positives on it. Was a bit worried it might turn out like that pitiful US film...

Heard rumor Doc might re-inc as a female sometime; interesting idea but would fans go for it?

Oh do do! Unless of course its going to cost you a couple of limbs, and then its probably better to just get the dvds seein' as its about the only decent thing the beeb is doing at the moment.

It was frickin' brilliant, I missed the first twenty minutes though, just hoping it gets repeated on BBC3 like the series.

I though it was going to be awful with Tennent as the doctor, theres just something about the man that wierds me out, but that quality managed to add to the great docteriness instead of just making him a creepy bugger in pj's.

I like, can't wait for the spring. Just hoping they get a big enough budget to actually leave planet earth.

theres a rumor that Capt. Jack will be getting his own series!

yey!

In fact, possibly more than a rumor, I'm sure it was in SFX or something, and they're usually quite good at warning you if its only a rumor.

I shall invesigate.

Also - another softly accented, very good looking, captain-playing-actor with a great butt and a fondness for showing it off on camera.

I'm noticing a trend emerging.

Captain Jack gets his own show.

Torchwood will debut on BBC Three late next year. Created by Russell T Davies it stars John Barrowman as Captain Jack.

"Torchwood will be a dark, clever, wild, sexy, British crime/sci-fi paranoid thriller cop show with a sense of humour - the X Files meets This Life," says Russell T Davies.

"It's a renegade bunch of investigators charged by the British government to find alien technology that has fallen to Earth," BBC Three controller Stuart Murphy told The Independent.

The show will be set in Cardiff, and will be 13 45-minute episodes, transmitting between series of Doctor Who. Confirmed writers include Sapphire and Steel creator PJ Hammond.

yippeee!

I didn't realise it as well but

they laid the foundations for it in TCI - Torchwood was the name of operation involving the big nasty weapon Harriet uses on the Sycorax ship at the end. An alien in control of the most deadly looking weapon on the planet?

I agree wholeheartedly!! I absolutely adored Christopher Eccleston as The Doctor and thought the last series was absolutely brilliant! However, having seen David Tennant in Casanova, Blackpool, and Harry Potter during the past few months, I've been getting increasingly excited to see him take over the role.

Was I ever NOT disappointed! *g* The Christmas Invasion was fantastic! All that I loved from last season (minus Capt. Jack *sigh*), as well as a new Doctor. He was quite fun to watch and I loved seeing him trying to figure out who he was again. It was quite a ride ;) The previews for the coming season in the spring were also quite exciting! Can't wait!

And here are the top 10 shows for Christmas Day.

This is just a cut and paste from the BBC forum, so I make no promises for its authority. (Anyway, it should be 9,400,002 since nobody asked me and Mrs G about it.)

For anyone who could give half a hump, the population of the UK is 60,441,457

1 EastEnders 10.1 million (BBC1) Grim Soap
2 Dr Who 9.4 million (BBC1) Jolly good show.
3 Coronation Street 9.4 million (ITV1) Grim Oop North Soap
4 Two Ronnies Christmas Sketchbook 7.9 million (BBC1) 1970s comedians (the unfunny one still alive)
5 Shrek 6.7 million (BBC1)
6 Emmerdale 6.6 million (ITV1)Grim Farming Soap
7 Toy Story 6.5 million (BBC1)
8 Celebrity Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? 6.3 million (ITV1)
9 The Queen 6.2 million (BBC1) No, the real one, not "Beelzebub has a devil put aside for meeeeee..."
10 BBC News 6.50pm 6.2 million (BBC1)

Really quite dissapointed with the Christmas Invasion. Tennant did well with what he had and I'm sure he'll be a fantastic doctor but a sword fight??? I had trouble believing Tennant could lift the thing let alone fight an 8 foot warrior alien with it. I thought the whole point of Doctor Who was he doesn't solve his problems with violence. He out-thinks his opponents. That seemed to be the whole point of bringing in Capt. Jack, an actiony guy and a clever guy.

Also, can they give the sonic screwdriver a rest? I love it too, but it's a sonic screwdriver, not a weapon. I want my doctor with different gadgets, not one gadget that can do everything the situation calls for.

Anyway, enjoyed moments of the ep, but as a whole it just didn't do it for me. Still looking forward to season 2 though.

I like the newest one too though...

I was going to say something else, but I've forgotten what it was...

Edit: Oh! I remember! I didn't get why the six words had the effect they did. Unless it was an all in her mind thing...
But that would just be lame, IMHO.
