Not to insult you or anything Johnny, but I'm pasting up Haken's link to the article in a thread that will be properly formatted and not a hassle to read.

As for the possibilities and plausibilities, just wait until Thegn, CtC and Wulfhawk show up to hash it out.

Myself, I don't have any sort of experiential base with theoretical physics, so...

I just have to go on faith that yeah, someday we'll get off this rock and on to better things.

There ain't nothin' I can't overcome or come to know. So lay your heavy load down on me, strip everything I have away. I am not your prisoner, I am not afraid.

I don't hash, I hack. Hack, hack, hack.

just as a sailboat can exceed the windspeed through manipulation of the air/sea membrane, we will eventually use the time/space membrane to exceed the oh-so-slow speed of light.

remember, every scientist, professor, and geek who has sworn there was an unbreakable limit to speed has been wrong.

For some reason, the STM link isn't working for me.

It does nothing.

I just posted the real audio link to from Johhny's original article, on his original thread.

There was a link to a RAM file from BBC news - a bleep about space travel, Star Trek, and Dr. Who, and I'm a big fan.

Don't miss my higly impressive Dr. Who impression.

It's so funny, I'm always the only one laughing.

Bye ya'll.

I know you're an Okie Hack, Wulf, but I'm normally too polite to say so.

My parents are old school science fiction fans. Few years back, I bought my mother a pin that said "186,000 miles per second- It's not the law, it's a challenge!" She loved it.

My father promptly stole the one I bought for myself... "Few things are so ego-boosting as being kicked out of an anarchy convention for unruly behavior."

There ain't nothin' I can't overcome or come to know. So lay your heavy load down on me, strip everything I have away. I am not your prisoner, I am not afraid.

Link worked fine for me, Matwang. Must be something with your connection or ISP or some other arcane thing HFK would understand better than I do.

Yeah, EX-TERM-INATE! I caught that.

Tom Baker was the only Doctor I ever got to see, and I pured loved it when we had it on PBS here. Man oh man, I was at a buddy's watching this weird-o movie a while back, and this girl goes "Say something geeky." and the guy says "I'm watching the Dr. Who marathon this weekend."

Me, I'm like... "Dr. Who is geeky? What? Hell with you people."

There ain't nothin' I can't overcome or come to know. So lay your heavy load down on me, strip everything I have away. I am not your prisoner, I am not afraid.

One other thing, Matwang. We don't use any capital letters when writing 'fox' around here. The fox network has lost all capitalization privileges until such time as, well, no, we're never going to forgive them.

Just so you know.

While we are on the subject of FTL travel and Dr. Who I got another good article for everyone. This is a user's guide to time travel.

http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/11.08/pwr_timetravel.html

I loved Dr. Who. Tom Baker was my favorite Dr. but I think it's just because he was the first one I ever watched. The Dr. Who series are now on DVD seperated by the different actors. I bought the Tom Baker years set for my brother at christmas. Daleks are cool.

Anything is possible if we can just find a way to do the impossible.

No insult at all! I knew from the moment that I was faced with the challege of posting the article that I was in over my head; Nevertheless, I endeavor to persevere. The reason I posted it, though, was to poll the public. Who thinks that in 500 years we will be able to travel to other star systems and check out the scene. I think that we are definitely on the right track and may even do it, if we don't exterminate ourselves in nuclear holocaust first.
