So I have realized something as a newborn fic writer. Feedback is not only crucial but just plain nice. Even if you have some constructive hints. So...here is my pledge. I am going to comment on every single fic I read. I am making this promise to myself cause I think it's a courtesy and it really helps writers. No matter how short or long, even if it's just to say, I liked it or not my thing but I liked the way you did such and such. I figure if I can take the time to read it, then I can take the time to comment. Just my two cents.

When you put yourself out there in your fics it's nice to know that people enjoyed, or got it, or want to see you do better. So I will promise to comment too!

Eggzactly Leigh! Someone once explained it to me like putting your ego down on page. So I really think that makes it all the more important to be contrsctive but HONEST!

That is a very considerate thing to do, and I hope it comes back to you.

I do the fanfic thing myself (in SW) and agree that feedback is essential on many different levels. I try to give not only thoughtful but constructive feedback.

And feedback like 'I liked it...more?' is almost worse than nothing at all. Tell an author why you liked something, tell them what you didn't like. You don't have to blow sunshine up their nethers, but you can certainly be kind.

Oh, and hey. I'm new here.

really agree with the above. my try went into a deafening silence, even with bunches of looks. the possible whys kinda block further attempts, and for the near future, fanfic is all the new there's gonna be...

I think one of the reasons there is little feedback is that the fics stay on the latest items for such a short period of time.

But I do agree with all thats been said so far.
There is definitely more good than bad fanfic on this site.

Again, exactly! It's always a fanfic author's hope (mine anyway) that I can better my writing style, characterizations, flow, pace...etc. etc. And the best way for that to happen is for someone to offer a helpful comment.
As far as the fics not staying on the latest items list...I always go through and search for more.
Okay, I think I'm off my soapbox. For now at least.

As a reader and a writer, I gotta admit I LOVE feedback! Even negative nasty feedback that I can mock endlessly is better than no feedback at all.

I try to leave constructive feedback when I can, and give a good cheer when I read something fabulous, but sometimes I run out of time, or I think, "I'll go do this and then come back and leave feedback" and then I forget. And I admit, I've been guilty of the "Ohh! More please!" without any sort of real feedback.

*hangs head*
I'm a bad love slave.
Somebody spank me.
