So I just got back from Blockbuster where I went to rent West Wing season 5. While I was there I swung by to see how many copies of Serenity were there. There were about twenty and all rented (keep in mind its Thursday at noon here not the weekend). I asked the young man behind the counter if they had Brothers Grimm, for which he replied no they're all rented, because they didn't buy that many. I asked about Serenity and he said:
We can't keep it on the shelves. We had to start renting the ones we bought to sell.

He said he not yet seen it, and I told him it was great and his fellow cashier goes "It's really good?" I said yes and said that I was a big fan of the TV show too. To which one replied "Serenity was a TV show?" I told them it was Firefly and they both seemed highly interested. One of them then said "We've gotten a lot of requests for Firefly." Then as I was leaving I heard the guy behind me ask "So Serenity is really good?"

Victory is mine!

Muahaha! Mine is an evil laugh!

Great job! I'm gonna have to do that ay my local Blockbuster. Anyone I meet is suseptable to hearing my "Serenity is the greatest movie" speech. Glad to hear rentals are doing fantabulous!

More converts! Keep spreading the word :)

I have made a SUPREME sacrifice and loaned out my copy of Serenity. I have also loaned out disk 1 of my box set.

Now I know these people very well and I will get them back. Just to make sure, I used my best Zoe voice and said "If you don't bring these back, I can hurt you."

I've loaned out the entire boxed set before, but I do have a back-up copy, unopened, just in case.

yay for you!

The last time I went to the video store I checked, too. There were about 10 copies (this is a small video store so 10's actually pretty good) and they were all checked out, but one.

I was a bit upset after seeing 1 row of Serenity at my BB compared to 5 rows for Into The Blue. WTF? Well, at least you said something about it. Good for you!

Hopefully it's a strong rental for a long time. Or that it dies in rentals, but flies off the shelves in sales. Whatever's better that's what I hope for :)

I'd personally rather have the sales...but whatever it takes to get a sequel I'm down for. Anyway this seems to indicate that there are (or will be) a lot of new fans I'm sure and I think a BDM II would do better at the box office than the first. Seriously is Underworld gets a sequel, Serenity damn sure better.

Ok Ok call me delusional (Hi Delusional, nice to meetcha) .. but I suspect that MANY rentals will turn into sales.. when the renter sees how GOOD Serenity is.. they will want to own their own copy...

I went to a local FYE in the mall closest to my house and checked out what they had as far as Serenity was concered. They had one widescreen and 2 full left. I don't know how many they bought, but at any rate this is where I went to go buy my box set. I went one week they had 1 left and decided to get it the next day, but when I came back it was sold. Two days later I came back and they had 3. I bought my one and came back again the next day to find them already sold out. Given that's only 3 in one day but I mean even so it was so quick. I'm just happy to see the series doing well around here. I also went to a local best buy to find no widescreen left and 2 full screens so that also made me pretty happy. I live in southern MA in not such a big city but still its doin fair around here at least..

Agreed. And I can't help but think that the people who already love Serenity & Firefly *aren't* the ones who are renting it - that means we're getting NEW Browncoats recruited every day! (I myself am a "new" Browncoat, having only been turned on to Firefly about six months ago)

I already posted it in another thread, but I'll recap here: I was at Blockbuster (or what I usually refer to as "Lackluster Video") tonight picking up a couple flicks, and looked to see if Serenity was in stock. Just... you know... out of curiosity, since I of course already bought my own copy when it hit the stores... Anyway, they had 12 slots for Serenity, and all were empty. :)

I can't help but think that there are a good nine or ten future Browncoats out there right now, just from exposure to those 12 copies of the BDM. That's high optimism on my part, I'm sure, but I live in a big shiny world. :) Every convert we get from a DVD rental just *might* be a future Firefly box set buyer. One can only hope...

I've loaned out my Firefly DVDs a couple times now. Both times, they came back with the people saying how much they loved the show, how they wished they'd heard of it before, and that they wished it had never been cancelled. When I told them there was more, and then informed them of the Big Damn Movie, they got *giddy* about it. If they haven't bought it yet, they're definitely going to at least rent it. Now all I've got to do is convince them to buy their own Firefly DVDs and loan them out to other friends and family. Can't stop the signal!

The Blockbuster near me didn't have any serentiy for rent at all!!

I asked the cash register guy why they didn't have the movie and just got the "deer in the headlights look". Pathetic!

Delusional! Delusional! OK, now that that's out of my system.

Went to BB tonight, in my college town of 50,000 people. They have a whole SECTION of Serenity, every single shelf, all but one rented. Like so many others, I just can't stop thinking about all the future Browncoats out there watching the BDM right now (except that one couple making out--they've got other things on their minds).
