Hi folks!
Shellgazer initiated a food drive over on the Fox board--but it's summer, people are away, and we need more help! If you visit that board, the thread is in Off-Topic, called "Browncoat Food Drive".

Here's the info:

"Our Target Date for Final Donations: 25 July 2003.

Traditionally, donations to food banks are lower in the summer than any other time of year. We'd like to change that in your community.

Want to help? You can help in one of many ways!

(1) Check out your pantry (or take a trip to the grocery store) and select staple items then donate them to a food bank in your area.

(2) Gather food donations from your friends and relatives, then donate them.

(3) Organize a small-scale food drive in your workplace, your school, or through your church. Donate the items collected.

(4) Organize a community food drive with stand-alone donation sites inside local retail locations. Donate the items collected.

(5) Organize a community-wide food drive with publicity and goodies. Donate the items collected.

(6) Take the easy way out and donate ONLINE! There's a Boston drive at http://fooddrive.aidmatrix.org/AidDrive/GBOSFB/Organization.jsp?VfdCod
e=BARNES070803&Fbcode=GBOSFB&companyCode=BARNES

Any of the options will help! Folks just need to let me know in what way they want to contribute. We will provide lots of support, from encouraging emails to press releases to research. For instance, if a person wants to donate, but doesn't know where to donate in their local area, they can email me and I'll provide a list of options.

Current totals: 72 cans and 2 bags of pasta

Thanks!

Or you can email me at ffcoatdrive@hotmail.com. Thanks!!!!!

One more thing to emphasize here--the easiest thing to do is donate through your local grocery store (most have programs) or donate online! No organization necessary.

Donating is great! We have a program here at work that donates a lot of stuff to our local food pantry.

Also, one thing I always do is check experation dates on the products I donate (and buy for myself), even if I just bought them. Don't want to be giving something old away. I don't know how many consumer complaints I have read for my company that said "I just bought this yesterday and it is bad.." but it turned out the store has had it on their shelf for the past 3 years.

Thank you so much for posting this. I'll be sure to pick some extra canned good up on my next trip to the grocery store.

No Blue Sun, though.

Thanks, guys!

If you donate (or have donated on your own anyway in the last month or so), just email Shell or myself the dollar amount or the number of food items.
