Good article, Van Den Broeck is author of a couple papers on this subject that appear to get around most of the objections made by others. It should be noted that the ojbections were primarly technical. That it would require too much energy to produce a thin enough warp bubble. He seems to have solved that problem

If you've got a head for the math, would recommend you go through the papers cited by this article. The Ford and Phenning papers are arguments against it, and can be found on the websites for the journals mentioned, as well as on LANL.

There is also a paper that tells what the warp bubble would look like, let me dig through my files at home and find it. Since light always follows geodesics, a warp bubble would distort that light path. But a cool thing is that it does not black out the universe on the other side of the light barrier. Weirdly enough, it looks like you are traveling slower than light, from inside the bubble.

There is also this paper:

one of the other arguments against warp drive that the outside of the bubble was disconnected from the inside, meaning that once you turned it on, you could not send a signal to turn it off and be stuck. This seems to have solved that problem as well.

Now all we need are somethings to alter the manifold. Any thoughts?

Gotta throw this in real quick as I wander off to work..

Dunno about warp drive, but impulse drive CAN, and HAS, been done.

DS1 used an ion engine similar in all respects to what's generally referred to in the sci-fi community as an "impulse engine".

Built it, ran it, DID it- yep.
