Though I loved the Matrix simply because it was a fun movie experience...Keanu Reeves aside! lol. I think Akira is far superior and most likely where those brothers got major inspiration no matter what they say. However i do think the Matrix should be on ANY Sci-fi list for the simple reason of what it did for movies afterwards. Like Star Wars did, it introduced some new technology and some new ways of filmaking.

Oh and I have to agree...E.T. lower than Mortal Kombat!!!! :)

Besides "Matrix" is just mumbo jumbo that is loved by gothic geeks, and sort of just a cyber-"Narnia".

Cyber-Narnia. That's probably the best possible word to describe The Matrix. I like it. Will have to use it myself in the future.

Well this is my list, don't need no changes cause these are just my faves in no particular order! Actually they got their inspiration from "Ghost in The Shell".

Afterall like Narnia, The Matrix has Neo as Aslan (Human form version sort of) while Agent Smith is The White Witch.

Personally, the movie listing I most disagree with is King Kong. I walked out of the new one because I was so bored. I saw some of the 33 version and it was even stupider. I've only walked out of one movie in my whole life and that is it. Of course, it's a free country so you can disagree if you want. You'll just have to resign yourself to the fact that you are mistaken, as I am ALWAYS right. Always. Really.

Also, the Dark Crystal freaked me out as a kid.

I'd agree with you, as it seems to have a bit of a "Titanic" problem.

You know the space-monkey is going to get captured, escape, climb the ESB and get riddled by biplanes. So why not spend 3 hours doing something else?

Sex would be the first choice, obviously, but Mrs G assures me that that would still leave me with a spare 2 hours and 58 minutes...

Looks like it's the sock drawer after all.

Yes, I know a Gorilla isn't a monkey. It's an insect.

How can any list be complete without "The Last Starfighter"?! C'mon .. they brought us the "Death Blossom," and a guy that rubs his face on like make-up! And the last lines for the enemy captain and his first officer is one of my favorite dialogues of all time - including the first officer's question at the end, "What shall we do, Captain ...???" with the little moving eyepiece part too. Ahh.... instant classic.

If you've got Wizard of Oz .. "Big" and "Groundhog Day" are classics. I'd personally throw "Pete's Dragon" and "Finding Nemo" in that bunch too.

"Last of the Unicorns" and "Time Bandits" get a big nod from me, but I would have tossed in "Galaxy Quest" in there too. And I consider "Pirates of the Caribbean" already to be a classic. Can't wait for that sequel in April.

And if you've got "Dark City," then "The Thirteenth Floor" fits well with that one as well. I've always thought that those two combined basically gives you "The Matrix." Although "The Matrix" was a beautiful synthesis of those concepts with excellent and pretty original special F/X.

Also, the X-Men movie series is pretty nice too. I've always L-U-V-ed Nightcrawler's power and they displayed it well in "X-Men 2."

I thought "The Green Mile" made for an interesting concept as well.

EDIT: Forgot about "Pitch Black," most of the Star Trek movies, and "The NeverEnding Story." I vaguely remember liking Krull too. Which reminds me of the Conan movies - ole Governor Ah'node

Any list should also include "Enemy Mine" That's an awesome movie.

"Twelve Monkeys" is pretty nice too. "Impostor" was seriously overlooked and under-marketed, and although it's not by any means a new concept, I think it did an extremely good job in keeping the audience guessing. Demolition Man should be thrown in - it's good for a few laughs too.

I didn't care for the Dune series a whole lot, but I know that it has a large following. Also, a movie I can't remember the name of ... ahh.. found it .. "Willow."

I recommend tossing in "Mars Attacks." This is one movie that really is so stupid as to be funny. KLAAK KLAK KLAAAAAAK!

Glad to see someone else besides me likes "Lifeforce", such an overlooked Sci-fi horror gem that is a different take on vampire and zombie myths.

Dark Crystal scared me too as a kid but i loved it along with "Secret of NIMH" and "The Last unicorn", great movies and i can't wait for the Dark Crystal sequel coming out this december, should be great. That movie is number 3 on my top 100 movies list, i've seen it about a hell of alot of times since i was little and it gets better every time i see it, same with "Secret of NIMH" and "Last Unicorn". I own the CD soundtrack of "The Last Unicorn", i even had a crush on Lady Amalthea when i was younger, she is such a hot cartoon chick.
