SERENITY was the best christmas present that I've ever had.( Thank you to the coolest people I know -- The Bavarian 4 of Newark, CA)
A few days later... My sister brought home a copy of FIREFLY (the whole set) and needless to say... we are hooked and we want MORE!!!!!!
My initial response to the whole thing was a mixture of pure delight with a little bit of angst and frustration. Delight because I have finally found the best show/movie to get hooked on... Awesome cast/characters, Great music, Amazing and witty script, and a classic epic story. The angst and frustration part derives from the fact that I was never made aware of FIREFLY when it was still on TV. Which gosh forsaken cave was I in when the show was still on air? ARRGHH!!!!!
Anyway... Can't do anything about that now so instead I'm gonna do my best to spread the word around. I've already told countless people about how much I love FIREFLY/SERENITY and I believe that it's going to spread like wildfire. There will be more fresh recruits like me and once you've seen the movie or watched an episode... how can you not like it?? Eventually.... It will happen. Mal and the rest of the crew will once again fly and we will be here to make sure that they continue to fly for a long long time.
I already know what to do when I get my next paycheck... I'm going to get my very own copy of FIREFLY and just in case my lottery playing finally pays off... We will see our dream happen sooner that we thought possible. For now... Count me in as a new recruit and please.... Don't give up.

Warms the heart, I tell ya what.

Welcome aboard, TG! I can sympathize with the delight/angst mixture myself. More angst-y feeling in there, though, from the long months between cancellation and movie announcement. Glad to have you on the board. Now get out there, and recruit, Browncoat!

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Welcome Teethgrinder!

I love reading how people came to find the show & now the movie & how much they love them.

Good luck w/ introducing friends & family to it. The more the merrier, right?

Keep flyin'! See you around the boards.

America loves a winner!

Welcome aboard, dear young recruit! Oh, the tales we could tell you, those of us who have been around for years and years. Oh, wait.. you can read those tales yourself, as most are posted all across this glorious board! But it's been a roller coaster ride...seeing FIRELFY take off, the fan sites, the grouding of FIREFLY by those at F*X TV , the Cons, having the DVD of FIREFLY come out, then hearing the news of the BDM, and then having the premier of the BDM pushed back several months, the early screenings, more Cons, the FIREFLY/SERENITY related podcasts, the FIREFLY CD release, the SERENITY comic books (ok,ok..graphic novels. sheesh ), and more Cons, and finally to the BDM release itself! Oh yeah, and the BD-DVD and CD to the BDM.

*whew*

Anyway, 'nuff of that. Welcome!

These threads are my absolute favorite! I love hearing from new recruits - It wasn't too long ago that I was one myself. The obsession justs get stronger, my friend. Welcome aboard.

On a slightly related note, I was at Hollywood video last friday, and saw a guy picking up a bunch of movies for the weekend, looking kinda confused as to what he wanted. My toddler picked that moment to run over by him, so in passing I told him about how great Serenity was. When I was leaving, I saw him at the register...with the last copy of Serenity! Sigh...a new convert in the making. Feels so good.

Yes indeed this is a great home. I've been a member of a forum board here and a forum board there, but I've never been as involved as I've been here. Everyone here is pretty laid back, some here are quite funny (Citizen, I'm looking in your general direction), and quite a few are thought provoking people. Sometimes we argue, sometimes we agree, we laugh, we cry, we console each other, perhaps bicker some more, then forgive, and then laugh once again...ya know, exactly what a family does. I have a feeling you'll love this place as much as I do!

Save your enamel. It wasn't your fault. F*x did everything in its power to make sure you wouldn't find out about Firefly during its first run, and if somehow you did, they made sure you had no idea when or if the next episode would air. Plus, they aired them out of order so you'd be confused and give up.

GIVE UP????? What kind of fans do you think we are?

We're holding. Holding until we get it back.

Welcome, teethgrinder. It's always great to meet new Browncoats. They all have stories...

Teethgrinder, I am RIGHT THERE WITH YOU!

I saw the movie at the theatre, got the Firefly set as a Christmas gift and fell in love. I just got the movie on DVD about 10 minutes ago!

I can't believe I missed the original run of this series either.

GEIIGA

Count me in as another new fan. I remembered seeing the odd advertisement for Firefly during its run on TV, and even had a friend recommend it, but I never knew when it was on, and before I knew it, it was gone.

Then, Serenity comes out. I'm not much for going to the theaters (can't stand the smell of popcorn). Serenity was the third of four movies I saw on the big screen in '05 (I saw none in '04, and only the two Matrix movies in '03), the other three being Star Wars, Good Night and Good Luck, and the Chronicles of Narnia. In fact, the whole reason I went was because of its mention on my favorite podcast (TWiT), where they said that George Lucas needs to watch it to learn how to make movies.

I had, at this point, no idea that Serenity (I'm going to stay away from calling it BDM until I've been a fan a little while longer) was in any way related to Firefly. But, with its 20 December release date, it was the only thing I specifically asked for for Christmas. To no avail. I did, however, get a Blockbuster gift card, so I rented it. And I remembered why I'd said when I saw it that it was the greatest science fiction movie of all time. Going through the special features, I discovered the fact that it was a follow-up to Firefly, so, logically, I went and bought the box set the following day. And watched it within 24 hours. So then I returned the rented copy, and bought one of my very own.

All I can say is 'oh my god.' The series, and the movie...seriously the greatest thing I've ever seen, and I want more.

And as much as I loathe posting 'hi, I'm new here' --well, howdy.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Welcome CenturyHouse and Geiga! Glad to have both of you here. Please be sure to share Firefly & Serenity w/ everyone you can. We need to really push the movie DVD to have any hope of a sequel. Besides, nothing quite like sharing your obsession....err, joy with others, right?

Teethgrinder,

To a long & happy aquaintance. To Independence!
