What is your TOP most fav moment on the show/movie. If you had to pick ONLY one look, or line, or moment. What would yours be?

Me being a romantic would pick the moment in the movie where Mal and Inara are talking and he tells her she fogs things up and stuff. I need watch it to get the full line there but he says he wishes like h*ll she was someplace eles, right after he went to get her. I guessed it was as close to him admiting he might love her....

---------------------------
Inara: Honestly, Mal, if we can't be civilized and talk like --
Mal: I'm plenty civilized. You're using wiles on me.
Inara: I'm using what?
Mal: Your feminine wiles. Your companion training, your some-might-say uncanny ability to make a man sweaty and/or compliant, of which I have had just about enough today.

There are so MANY good moments in both, but I think my TOP fav is still the end of OOG when, just before he drifts to sleep, Mal asks, "Y'all gonna be here when I wake up?" That gets me every time! Our hard-nosed, bad ass, don't need nobody, Captain making sure he won't be alone when he wakes up! AWWW!

It's almost impossible to pick just one... but if you put a gun to me, I'd say it's the scene between Simon and River after he's shot in the BDM, starting with "River, I'm sorry," and ending with "My turn." Just totally gut-wrenching, until that last line... which changes everything forever.

Well, now that i've seen the series so many times its even harder to choose.

I really cant pick one. But just to continue the thread and mention one;

The scene in "objects in space" when river stands in this weirds pose in the cargo room listening to the crew. Music, dialoge etc.. Stunning.

Its scenes like that i will miss if they ever make more (seeing as river is more or less sane now).

Jayne: All those years of preacher training, getting knocked out by one bounty hunter
Book: Oh, dont get me wrong. I gave him a hell of a fight
Jayne: Epic i'm guessing

For me it's right after this scene, the last flashback, the look on Mal's face as he sees her across the used spaceship lot.

For a series so well written, it's difficult.

The "My turn" bit from the movie (as mentioned above) certainly ranks at (or near) the top of any list. But, for sheer comical value, I loved River's: "Jayne's a girl's name." I also liked her: "I can kill you with my brain."

River, Mal, Jayne & Wash literally flood each episode with gems of dialogue. It's way too difficult to pick just one.

For me it's the scene at the end of the BDM where Mal is talking to River as she pilots the ship through the rain, topped with another piece commin' off Serenity. Just beautiful dialogue and music; I cry every time (y'know, bitty little man-like tears, ahem).

I havent seen all the TV episodes yet but one of my favorite moments is on the "Our Own Mrs. Reynolds" episode. After the fake bride sets the ship on course to get fried and has successfully tricked Malcom into kissing her, which makes him pass out from the poion on her lips. Inara finds her out and rushes to find Mal who is unconscious in his bunk and she kisses him and gets knocked out too. At the very end of the episode Mal is in Inara's shuttle and confronts her about "tripping" and knocking herself out, since that's what she told everyone that's what had happened. There standing face to face and he asks her if she really triped and knocked herself out, it seems like she is just about to confess what she really did when Mal blurts out, "You kissed her! I knew it", and walks off.
I couldnt stop laughing what a classic moment, and it shows how Mal and Inara's relationship works so well.

I love firefly and the touchy feely moments do get me but I love Joss's comedy style and the timing of the cast. That being said I think my favorite moment would be the sequence in OIS about River being a "witch":

Mal: "But she does have an oddness to her.
And I ain't just talking about her proficiency with firearms. Girl knows things. Things she shouldn't. Things she couldn't."

Jayne : "Wha-...are you-are you sayin' she's a witch?"

Wash: "Yes, Jayne. She's a witch. She has had congress with the beast."

Jayne: "She's in Congress?"

Wash: "How did your brain even learn human speech? I'm just so curious."

I literally laughed out loud when I saw this exchange, and its rare that I do that watching a TV show alone in my room. But firefly has done that to me on various occasions so all in all I think this moment was my favorite.

SMAUG

They isn't hardly a scene/moment I DON'T love.. but if I HAD to choose one.. It would be the end of Shindig where Inara offers to sacrafice herself to save Mal's life. I don't believe it was a distraction tactic.. I believe she really did mean to sacrafice her future if it would save Mal's life. I am suprised that Mal made no mention of it and question Inara of it later.

But that moment... and Athertan's threat to Inara would have to be my favorite scene, because it's more than JUST what the scene was itself.. but what I can see from it possibly at a future point.. a tragic but beautiful way to eventually bring Mal and Inara together.

Well my favorite part in the show was in "War Stories" when River takes the gun from Kaylee and shoots the bad guys.

Oh how evil to just ask for ONE. Oh man, I really tried to give this some thought and if I can pick ONLY ONE moment (moment being a short span of time) then I'll have to say the My Turn speech. "Yall gonna be here when I wake up" was a close second. And I was tempted to say drunk Simon and Kaylee in Jaynestown but all the emotion packed into the MY TURN moment just pulls my heart right out of my chest.

Maybe I'll peek back in with an overall favorite moment, but I had to respond to this with a resounding, "Yes she can!"

It's certain that my favorite Inara moment also comes in Heart of Gold. It's just after Nandie is killed and Mal bursts in the room. Inara looks up at him and her face slowly transforms from sadness and mourning to, "Make him pay." Perfection. Sheer perfection.

In the movie, my absolute favourite -look- is when the Op sneaks past Universe's dead body, and Lenore says "Mal."

The look on the Operative's face when he turns around. That gleam in his eyes when she says, "Guy killed me Mal."

Hysterical. Something so subtle about it. Heheh.

It's not my top for the series, nor is my favourite -scene- from the movie.

Humm.... Can I choose one from the movie and one from the series? Is that allowed. I don't care, I'm going to do it anyway.
Probably my favorite scene from the series is one that has already been posted (Danielfyre already posted it). Here it is:

Mal: "But she does have an oddness to her.
And I ain't just talking about her proficiency with firearms. Girl knows things. Things she shouldn't. Things she couldn't."

Jayne : "Wha-...are you-are you sayin' she's a witch?"

Wash: "Yes, Jayne. She's a witch. She has had congress with the beast."

Jayne: "She's in Congress?"

Wash: "How did your brain even learn human speech? I'm just so curious."

My favorite scene from the movie? I have two that tie. The first is when the crew is just getting off Serenity and they're in the bar. Mal is about to go and finish the deal with Fanty and Mingo and Kaylee is complainig to him.

Kaylee: "I haven't had anything 'twixt my nethers weren't run on batteries goin' on a year now"

Mal: "Oh, GOD! I can't know that!"

Jayne: "I could stand here a little longer."

My other favorite one is also another Kaylee moment. When Jayne, Zoe, Inara, Simon, Kaylee and River are all bunkered infront of the blast doors preparing to fight the Reevers. Simon tells Kaylee that he regrets not being with her. Her response is classic:

Kaylee: "You mean, like sex? Forget this! I'm gonna live!"

Wacky fun!

That is a very hard question to answer.

I like the 'Crazy Ivan' in the pilot. Kaylee's 'You are a nice man, Captain' scene in Pilot. Through the window bar brawl 'We'll rise again' and 'blow a hole in this little moon' scene in 'The Train Job'. The torture scene in 'War Stories' is very good. 'Y'all gonna be here when I wake up in 'Out of Gas', very emotional scene. Everybody mesmerized by Jayne's statue in 'Jaynestown', very funny. In BDM the first shot of Serenity and the cockpit scene with Wash and Mal, very funny. The scene where Mals says 'This is what I do darlin' to River and then they board the Mule.

OK If I have to pick 1 it's 'Y'all gonna be here when I wake up in' OoG. Only coz its my favourite episode.

The line that always makes me laugh is one of Jayne's, from the "Shindig" episode. The scene is Badger's little 'office/hideout' space, and he's serving them drinks, and they're conversing. Badger begins the little line of dialogue like this:

Badger: Had a problem with your attitude is why. Felt you was--what's the word?

Jayne: Pretentious?

Badger: Exactly.

The little face motion he does when he says the line and the look Mal gives him afterwards just kills me every time.

For a show that excelled at subtle, complex, and often profound moments I think (perhaps) the most subtle and most complex and most profound - and most true to character - moment was the end of Jaynestown.

Jayne's "why'd he have to go and do that" and "ain't a one o' them understood what they saw" lines (forgive the rough paraphrasing) are simplistic feelings on Jayne's part, but hint at him scratching the surface of a deeper world with deeper feelings than he's previously known.

Even after Mal explains it - "ain't about you, it's about what they need" - he's still in denial of sorts (trying to resist tapping into that deeper world - ignorance IS bliss) and says something to the effect of "don't make no damn sense."

It's a kind of blue-collar profoundness (is that a word? Profundity?) perfectly articulated.

Ok, this isn't the hardest question, but it's right up there with the time my little brother asked me why some people were always mean to him.
I have to say it's the moment in Out Of Gas, where Mal decides to send the crew off in the two shuttles, I almost cried to see the looks on their faces as they realised they might have to leave Serenity and it's captain for dead

In the series, I'd have to say in OIS when River gives her speach to Early about how she doesn't belong, is dangerous, etc. They cut to the crew and you can see that they finally realise that even though she is a bit crazy she still has felt how alone she is there.

The scene in the BDM that always cracks me up is when Kaylee and Simon start making out and move out of camera. Next thing you see is River looking out of the hatch down at them. I always wonder just how much of an eyeful she gets.

Ooooh so tuff!!!

Okay the moment I choose just manages to beat out Mal's "Love" dialouge to River at the end of Serenity.

It's the moment near the end of OIS, when River tells Kaylee "I can do this. I can win this." Then her eyes frame the cracker jack ball just before she drops it, which the camera follows and then pans through the hull of Serenity out into space. There's some sweet Greg E. music going...and there's just something so satisfying in that moment it gives me chills.

Without a doubt my fav moment from the series is from Our Mrs. Renyolds. The look on Mal's face after Saffron offers to wash his feet is absolutely classic. Great timing on Nathan's part.

From the film, I love it all but the "hero shot", as Joss calls it in the commentary, where River stands atop the reavers, backlit by the blown out wall. It's so great, reminds me of great graphic novel art.

My favorite line from the whole series is still the one in my sig from 'Our Mrs. Reynolds'. I don't know why but the whole lead up to it cracks me up and I burst into serious laughter everytime Wash says "Okay! Everybody not talking about sex, in here. Everybody else, elsewhere."

In the BDM, it's probably the beginning of River's fight scene in the bar. When she's first triggered and the blue, dream-like light is cast over her. It was a great insight into her mental state at the time.

For me, in the series, it's in "Safe" -

OK, I'll give two. One from the show, and one from the BDM.

Firefly: I think the best scene has to be at the end of the pilot, when Book is talking with Inara. This works on so many levels. First of all, the fact that Book, a preacher, is essentially confessing his fears to a Companion really illustrates how turned around life is in the black. Secondly, Book's words reminded me so much of a scene from one of my favorite movies, The Last Temptation of Christ. When Book says, "I think I'm on the wrong ship.", and Inara replies, "Maybe. But maybe you are exactly where you should be." This is very reminiscent of the scene in Last Temptation where Jesus, speaking one of the first times in public, seems more frightened of saying the right thing, than the wrong one. The look on Book's face indicates he may not know which one is worse, being in the place he should be, or being somewhere he shouldn't.

Serenity: I think easily the best scene is the first time we get to see Serenity. Seriously, you can tell how much Joss loves this ship, this crew, and this story. The camera actually floats like like an artist's paint brush back and forth, from tip to tail and back. And that music, I love the music in that scene. I got a little choked up then, and still do now.

The problem with capitalism is that it best rewards the worst part of us: the ruthless, competitive, conniving, opportunistic, acquisitive drives, giving little reward and often much punishment–or at least much handicap–to honesty, compassion, fair play, many forms of hard work, love of justice, and a concern for those in need.

I dearly love the bit in the BDM when Mal starts giving the orders to the crew to rig up Serenity for the big infiltration. It's a sign of the tactical smarts he picked up during the war, and like he told Inara, we're seeing something new. This isn't Mal the man trying to get by. This is Mal at war, and you know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that somebody is about to get seriously messed up.

Close second, (and this might just be indicative of my most recent episode viewings, as the 'verse is chock full of brilliance) is quite simply this:

"Looks like business isn't running so much as crawling away."

Oooh, boy. There is an all express ride on the pain train coming for you today, buddy.

It was my least favorite episode, but something about that bit just got to me. Maybe it was the fact that I knew that was the last part of Firefly they filmed, but it gets to me everytime.

Also have a thing for cool lighting and in BDM when River goes all bat shit on everyone in the Maidenhead. The blue light effect used in the start of that scene, makes my little theatre tech heart skip a beat.

MISSMADRASSA

Not many people will agree with me but I really love the scenes in Firefly between Mal and Inara that aren't expositional (is that a word?). Scenes that just show how cool and snarky they can both be. They push each other and they love it..

In the teaser of "Heart of Gold" for instance when she grabs his gun and says (paraphrasing) that any low-born petty crook knows that the small firearms go to the far left of the place setting. How cool. He doesn't know whether to slap her or take her right there on the table. BWAH!

A lot of choices and a lot of fine picks so far. I love talkin' to you folks.

For me it is Mal's "Y'all gonna be here when I wake up?" line from Out of Gas. That whole episode makes me so happy and it is just a fantastic ending. Wonderful. If ever I'm feeling down, that episode always brings me up.

CLAYBO

In Shindig where Mal stabs Atherton twice just because it was funny... lol.

Guy killed me, Mal. He killed me with a sword. How weird is that?
