Oprah has a place to explain and fill out what hot celebrity you want to meet and why. You would get to spend the day with them, etc. I guess you need to send them a tape explaining all this, but hey, it's worth a try! Just think if someone could get on Oprah and explain their infactuaction with one of the BDMs, and better yet, the Firefly/Serenity 'verse! That would get us some publicity! Any takers? Go to the link and read more!

Great idea! Oh, to spend the day with any of them...But if forced to choose, I'd have to go with Nathan. Oh, sweet bliss.

And no better publicity than Oprah publicity.

I'd love to hear stories of Browncoats and their submissions to Oprah to meet one or all of the BDH's.

Haha, what a great idea! That would be so cool. Hands down, my choice would be Nathan! That man is all kinds of pleasin'.
We should write to her and tell her to have a Serenity/Firefly taping with browncoats as the audience. THAT would get the word out.

Wacky fun!

What about Joss ... the BDH of them all?

Plus, with all the buzz around him and the upcoming WW movie, he might actually get on. Just a thought ...

Now that would be cool! I'm not a big Oprah fan, but I do admire what she does, and the class act that she is. If we could get her to do a show about the Browncoats, and have a bunch of us in the audience, that would be ultra shiny! Anyone in the Chicago area have an in with Oprah?

Sorry, but I'm thinkin' not.
Star Wars' cast wasn't on Oprah. Never has been.
Most famous sci-fi franchise on the planet.
Never had a show with Oprah.
There has never been a cast of a sci-fi movie on Oprah.
Oprah's demographics doesn't warrant them having our BDHeroes on her show.
The cast from "Hitch"? "The Hours"? "Beauty Shop"? "Fun With Dick and Jane"?
You bet yer sweet pei-gu.
Serenity?
Not a chance in the hot place.

How many scifi movies have three black actors/actresses out of 10 primary cast members?

Let me do the math here... zero in the Star Wars prequels, one in the classic trilogy (and that's pushing it - Lando was more of a major secondary than a primary character).

Perhaps that's the angle that will get Serenity on Oprah?

Our show is special. It's got what it takes to be the first.

Oprah could fell small countries with a mere utterance, topple solid industries with a breath. As much as I am not a fan of the woman. She is a wonderful(if cheesy) and powerful woman and can bring attention to anything she wishes and people listen.

People would certainly take notice if one of the BDH's were on her show.

Yeah, although I think the chances are very slim for anything to happen with Oprah, there's always a chance. I think we've learned around here to never say never. Getting a BDM on the show is probably our best bet, but who knows. That's why if you could win the "I want to meet a celebrity" contest/show we might actually succeed if Browncoats would apply. I know many of the Browncoats around here are quite fanatical.

I agree that the chances aren't high - science fiction has never really fit in with Oprah's target demographic (although as a stay-at-home mom in my late twenties, I actually think I'm in that target demographic...)

But if enough people write in about our BDH's that might cause the producers to take notice. One angle they could cover maybe is the strong cult following - how a cancelled TV show with only a handful of eps got made into a movie, etc. If the show was about "Hollywood miracles" such as that, they could talk about Family Guy, even Star Trek. Ok, a long-shot, I know, but...worth a try. And isn't Nathan starring in a new movie sometime next year? Maybe it could be tied in to promotion for that.

I mean, come on! A day with NATHAN!!! sigh...

The 2nd and 3rd Matrix movies (BIG movies, dispite anyone's opinion of 'em) had all kinds of black people in 'em. Even Dr. Cornel-frickken-West!
Did YOU see Laurence Fishburne or Jada Pinkette Smith or Dr. West on Oprah?
I didn't think so.
Sorry Chipmunk.
Oprah and Sci-Fi don't mix.
WRONG DEMOGRAPHICS
It's like running ads for a sci-fi movie during the day when the soaps are on.
Doesn't happen.

Your tone suggests otherwise.

Other than a brief period right after 9/11, and another brief period when recovering from a TBI, I don't watch Oprah, and doubt many here do, so it's not constructive to make assumptions about what any of us have seen on Oprah.

I think the original idea was excellent - thanks for having the guts to propose it, Jayhawk!

In a constructive vein, I did some searching on Oprah's site, and clearly someone on her team is a science fiction fan. For example, check out this O magazine article:
"The Mighty Chick Flick"
http://www.oprah.com/omagazine/200407/omag_200407_chick.jhtml
What's at #14 (out of 20)? Aliens, just barely beating out Thelma & Louise (#15). How weird is that?!?

Probably quite a few folks here remember last summer's famous Tom Cruise leaping on Oprah's sofa interview, which (apparently) was tied to promo-ing a science fiction flick.

I also found some book reviews, and several references to major SF movies. For example, this interview with Natalie Portman, which seems enamored of her fashion stuff:

I don't get fashion, but have the strong impression that's very important to Oprah, so that's an angle to consider. Is anyone here fashion savvy and either has watched or is willing to watch some Oprah to get attuned to her interests?

Other things to focus on are the high number of strong female characters, the core plot theme of a teenage girl wrestling with mental illness, and (as I've mentioned) the unusually large number of major characters played by superbly talented black actors/actresses.

Yes, my impression is that Oprah's not the type who's interested in science fiction, so the key is to sell it to her and her prescreening staff on their own terms.

This may be a long shot, but I'd much rather put some effort into a long shot, than not try at all! That's the Browncoat spirit.

Lol, yeah they were. That was a really great episode too. Anthony Daniels, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher. Not sure if Mark showed up but I remember being really excited about it (taped it too).

Since she usually gushes on air about cool people/things she's discovered...

I'd like to spend the day with OPRAH watching select episodes of Firefly and Serenity the movie.

If we ALL sent that specific wish in, it would certainly make an impression.
