It's a new year and a new age for the venerable (and vulnerable?) Hidey Hole of Nice-ish folk. What strange floors and nooks await us?

To bring yourself up to the current floor of the hidey place of nice-ish folks that's located in a plainly visible skyscraper (and how large it is!), read these:

Ground Floor: Hunt for the Secret Hidey Place of Nice Boys
http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=14264

Second Floor: The Hidey Place of Nice Boys & Girls
http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=15042

Third Floor: Hidey Place of Nice-ish Boys and Girls
http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=15184

4th Floor - Shoes, Linens, Nice People Hidey Places
http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=15249

Fifth Floor: Hiding Nicely in Plain View
http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=15447

Sixth Floor: Desert Island Nice People Hidey Places
http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=15619

Seventh Floor: Nice Embarrassed Hidey People
http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=15913

Do you make any resolutions for this year? Do you have any big plans? Do you even care?

Is this anything like the age of aquarious?

Hmm, I've got to be getting up to get ready for work in two hours...

I might try sleeping again.

New Age of Hidey-ocity indeed!

I somehow managed to screw up every single resolution I made last year, so they're all getting tacked on to the '06 list. My list reads like this:

See more foreign films
Regularly update my Film Review website
Lose weight (perennial favorite!)
Get healthy
Stop chewing on drinking straws
Wear retainer more often
Read more books

And I'm off to a good start, as I had a little bit of surgery this morning, and I'm apparently fit as a fiddle.

PS: Does anyone actually read back through all our old threads?

I doubt it, but I like to have 'em there in case anyone is insane enough to go through them (or us old fogies want to "remember").

On Hidey-osity VS. Hidey-ocity...tough thing with made up words is the spelling, haha...i went with -osity due to radiosity, but of course one could go with -ocity due to things like velocity and the like ;D

I refuse to call my goals resolutions, as that will surely mean I will fail.

I have no resolve, so I'm screwed if I spill my alcohol on the carpet.

That said, my goals:

Lose some weight. (Currently I've cut back to one Coke a day (back from 6-8 per day)... it's killin me, but it's a hell of a lot less sugar, let me tell you.)

Exercise more. (I sit on my butt far too much for my own good. Wouldn't be so hard if it weren't for the fact that all my friends are more sedentary than the fossils at your local museum.)

Stop being so anti-social. (How do I expect to ever be not alone when I do nothing but sit at home every night, even on weekends? I think I'm gonna get tested for depression/anxiety disorders, if there even are tests for such things.)

With goals like that, hopefully I'll manage to fulfill at least one of them. Maybe.

Yeah, the exsessive sodas are my problem too. If I forced myself to give up sodas entirely and drink just water, I'd lose 50 lbs.
There are tests for depression. Many of them. There's one small problem with most of them. False Positives. Almost everyone on the planet would be deemed a major depressive by the majority of them. My personal opinion is, there's something major wrong if the state of the world doesn't make you sad on occassion. *shrug*

Jadehand: I'm here all week; try the veal

As for the false positives, I've honestly thought I've had some form of depression for many years now, I've just always let my excessive anti-social behaviour prevent me from bringing it up with the doc. I have this thing where I pretty much don't talk to people. Ever. Somewhere in the back of my mind I'm convinced that they really don't want to hear what I have to say.

Luckily, I don't have that problem on forums. Typin' ain't talkin'.

I don't want to resolve to drink more, but I will resolve to try more drinks. There are so many I've never had. And lots of them have fun names. I want to drink more fun drinks with fun names.

I did that a few years ago. I didn't lose any weight at all. I think subconsiously I ate more to compensate. The answer: diet soda. Once you get used to the taste (and believe me, it took a while), you just stop caring.

One more quixotic resolution: Force Coca-cola to bring back Vanilla Coke. By any, ANY () means necessary.

I'm not gonna tell ya that you don't, I don't know you. I know I do a bit, hereditary, but awareness goes a long way towards control. Just be careful, some docs hand out unneccesary perscriptions like candy. Some folks benefit greatly, some become Mr. flat affect. You know yourself better than anyone, do what you feel you must. Have those around you that know you, that you trust, observe and report to you if you end up taking anything. As for the not talking to people, well, I've tried talking to people, and I can assure you, you aren't missing out on much. I'm convinced most people wouldn't understand what I have to say. The good news is you live in a world where you can get to people here, where it's easier to type. Then go to Cons and meet them, it's a lot easier to talk to people you know, and when you know you have a few things in common.

It wasn't you, JadeHand.

This is what is was:

*angry dramatization warning.*

*disclaimer: I can be angry with you and still love you!*

Me: I would love to go to SerenityCubed. But however shall I buy a ticket?
Them: We're going to try to get one of the first 150 so we can go to the meet & greet. We'll get you one, too! And you can stay with us at the hotel! And if you come early, you can stay at our house! It'll be bloody brilliant!
Me: Really? Thanks! Let me send you money.
Them: The bank is going to charge us fees to transfer dollars into pounds.
Me: No problem. Let me send you even MORE money to cover the bank fees.
Them: That'd be great. We can't wait for S3. It's going to be so much fun!
Me: *grabs checkbook* *sends check Global Priority Mail*
Them: (two days later) We've decided not to go to S3. Sorry!
Me:

So, that's why I'm upset. Not sure what to do about it at the moment. If I cancel the check, it'll cost me even MORE money. And then I'll still be without a ticket. And I still really want to go. So, I'm pondering. Waiting for a solution to present itself.

SAFEAT2ND

Citizen & Jadehand, I'll agree that the forum does loosen ones typing/tongue. It's a little less... personal, for the lack of a better word.

I, personally, like talking to people. I'm lucky, I live in a farm town where I went to school and worked and did extracurricular activities like sports and such. So I tend to know most of the people I meet. Working retail helped me get over any hangups I had about approaching new people too.

It all boils down to self image; 1 part self confidence and 1 part not caring what other people think. As cruel as some may be. And be sincere, no matter how much you may bumble, it always shines through. Trust me I speak from experience.

Plus being a cocky charming bastard helps. I've come to grips with my inner a-holeness. 'Been called worse.

Oh and my 2 cents on depression... some times it's just plain boredom and not depression at all.

Ok, someone else's turn on the soapbox.

I just heard this here cabinet wimpering and talking to itself, so I felt obliged to join in the conversation. Seryn's the crazy one. Trying to feed a cabinet sweets and tea *rolls eyes* They only eat socks....

Wait-a-minute, that's what dryers eat. Yeesh, what was I thinking. Try and get a good conversation from a dryer though... yikes...

Heh...I was accused of stalking by my last girlfriend. Thankfully everyone that knew me knew it wasn't true. Is it bad when even your exgf's better friends tell her she made a mistake in not being with me? haha

I had a stalker once.

Sis' told im that I wanted a boyfriend (boy did i ever not!) so he followed me round several different nightclubs for months and turned up at the house with a christmas present for me (er, buffy spin off novels, and a Keyring!)

Musta' though I liked buffy, and lived where I did...

I still haven't thought up suitable revenges for sis. Too late now I suppose...

Just thank god he never got crazier than that!

No, having her friends supprt you just show their 'level headedness and ability to judge for themselves'

hope you kept them around, they'd make good character witnesses.

'Scuse me fellers....

*Opens cabinet door, crawls inside.*

*snugglies ensue*

See, 'tis my firm belief that the onset of happies is burdensome for the shy. Me, I'm not so much for burdens.

Kinda cozy in here....

CALLMESERENITY

I had a stalker in college. Not fun. He brought me flowers every day for 2 months straight. And he told me he wanted to marry me a week after we met. He'd send me cards and letters and gifts all the time. Just wouldnt leave me alone. At first it was flattering, but then it just got annoying. And he just wouldn't let up.

When he wouldn't leave me alone, I had to separate myself from my friends (who all couldn't see why I didn't want to date him, he was so romantic!!) The worst was when I agreed to go on a walk with him so I could try to get it through his head how I wasn't going to date him and he kissed me. It was the worst kiss EVER. Awful beyond belief.

He finally started stalking some other girl and left me alone.

Oh, and why is Mai in the cabinet?

Ummm... hi. Who are..?

*hands begin to glow, giving off a small light*

OH Cozen! Thank goodness a familar face. *hugs*
Just one question. How did you get here? Make that two questions, Where is here? And what happened to the SereniTREE? (ok, 3, but that's the last one, I swear).

*hears another familiar voice from outside the cabinet*

OH GOD we've all been kidnapped! I knew it!

Mai, Secretary of Unmentionables.

*waves chocolate bar for old times sake*

but now cozens in theres as well, i'm just hoping that theres a little tardis tech in there somewhere or we're going to have some pretty serious cramp issues.

*waits*

yeah, no one ever get why you don't want to be putting yourself into a situation with someone who is clearly not right in the head in a very bad way
And who, besides, makes your flesh crawl.
Amazing how gifts and chocolats blind people.
Strange that innit?

*eats block of chocolate*

do you thing he's planning to stay in there all day?
