Hey All!

First Time poster, short time lurker. Firefly and Serenity kick so much ass I've decided to do my English 12 speech on the subject of Firefly and I was planning on showing a short 1-3 minute scene from the show that just says it all.

I'm thinking of using the opening sequence, but I would rather use an actual part of the show.

And hopefully I will convert at least a few people into becoming browncoats

The intro to The Train Job is pretty good. I think that will hook people. That does speak volumes about what Firefly is all about. I love when Jayne is walking onto Serenity and he is laughing to himself 'blow a new crater in this moon' :D. That was the scene that hooked me to Firefly. I had not even heard of Firefly (No cable, no Sci-Fi channel) but 1 day I was watching the Sci-Fi channel in work and then The Train Job come on. I asked my friend 'What's this?'. He said 'Firefly' then explained about Fox axeing it etc. The next day I bought the boxset and here I am :)

I think I'd go with this segment: start with the Operative's line, directed toward the hologram of River: "Where are you hiding, little girl?"

Then you get the main title, the wonderful shot of Serenity breaking atmo, and the "What was that?" moment.

Your time limit means you'll probably have to end the clip as Mal leaves the bridge, saying "Just get us on the ground", and Wash answers, "That part'll happen pretty definitely."

If you can afford the extra time, you can extend it to include the confrontation with Jayne: "No grenades!" "Awww..."

It's hard to think of a better short introduction to the 'verse and our big damn heroes than that.

I don't disagree on any particular point.

I agree, the bar fight in The Train Job, ending with the ship rising up would be good, shows the 'Wild West' combined with the future. Then maybe add either Book or Mal's explanation of the 'Verse from the beginning sequence at the end of that, if you have time.

Good luck with it.
