In Serenity when Simon is explaining the coded message he got from River, she told him "they're hurting US". That means the Alliance Academy was working on more than just River. Wouldn't it be interesting if the Blue Hands used someone like River to track down Serenity?
It would be a real test of Mal's skills, everytime he would turn around they would be one step ahead of him. Every trick he pulled would be foreseen. No matter what he did, they would know it. Then, in the final scene, River would figure out what was happening and find a way to out see the other seer.

OR...

The underground group that smuggled River out of the Academy would have other gifted children that they had smuggled out of the Academy and they would help Serenity escape from the Blue Hands.

I wish Josh had a chance to develop that more.

I had the impression that Jubal Early might have been equppied with some sort of "sight". But someone mentioned that he had just done his homework.

The idea that Early was sort of like a failed version of River never occured to me until someone mentioned it here. I think it's interesting, certainly plausible, but I don't know that I'm convinced. I think it's just as likely that the 2X2HOB guys are what become of people who graduate from the Brain Chop Academy where River escaped. If Early were a similar kind of sensitive, he seems to have an awful lot of autonomy. He's a bounty hunter, not a fed.

I never thought that the Blue Hands were 'graduates' of the X-academy, I always figured they were in charge. They wear the blue latex gloves so they can't be identified.

I thought it would have nice if Joss had been able to develop another girl, same age as River, River might even have met her at the X-academy (shown thru flashbacks) and this girl was being used by the blue hands or she even was willingly helping them track down River.

I threw up on your bed.

Those are GLOVES?? I always thought that there hands were just blue! holy crap! Am I the dumbest person here?
I did think that perhaps the 2x2hob guys were the result of an earlier experiment in the same vein as what was done to River, yet not as "advanced" in method.

I never saw the HOB guys do anything that led me to think that they had any ESP powers at all. They would ask questions and interogate people. If they had extra perception, I think they would have acted differently when they were looking for River on Ariel.

You can buy blue latex/vinyl gloves at most hardware or janitorial supply stores. Why don't we organize a HOB day and everyone wear gloves for the day?

I'm not sure that anyone we've met, with the exception of River, has psychic abilities. Anything is plausible in Firefly, of course, thanks to "suspension of disbelief." If you're suspending disbelief to enjoy the show, it's not hard to suspend it a little longer and believe that anyone on the show is psychic--even Mal.

I think I would like to see some convincing arguments that Jubal, 2x2HOB, or anyone other than River is psychic. And I don't mean someone asking questions like, "How did Jubal know where to find Serenity?" with no convincing answers to follow. That's just begging the question.

Viva Firefly!

Badger.
He's not above selling someone out, and he outright hates Mal - but ratting to the Feds, as Jayne learned the hard way, is a downright stupid idea.

So he drops a few hints in all the right places...

Not too hard to catch a beat up firefly class when you know the general area they'll be operating in, and they ain't on to you.

I figure most travel uses established 'shipping lanes' for ease, convenience, and safety reasons, that way anyone with a serious breakdown can reasonably expect help in a rational amount of time, see ?

So Early worked those hints, got himself into a lane that was likely to be used by Serenity, and waited.

Unfortunately the crew didn't kill him off, or disable his ship, so it's a likely bet (if the incident happened on a 'lane') that Early will be rescued and come back for more.

I don't think it necessarily had to be Badger. Successful bounty hunters (and that's what Early clearly is...or rather was) have their own sources and ways to get information via bribes, deception, intimidation, etc. Firefly is not exactly a stealth ship and they have to stop occasionally in conspicuous places to pick up/drop off cargo/mail, fuel up, etc. It's not that surprising that a determined adversary could find them (there's already been two examples so far: The Message, and OiS)

That's my point exactly! No one really knows for sure how he found them. It's never stated. So, you can't use examples like that to back up a claim that there is more than one psychic in the 'verse. THAT is what I mean by "begging the question." The proof doesn't actually prove anything!

I'd say you have it just about right.
