im not sure where flan came from, but i think its FirefLy fAN conVENTION. its a convention for Firefly and Serenity, with a few other Whedon tie ins for promotion and stuff like that. last months convention was so much fun, i cant wait 11 more months.

"Flan" is actually from Nathan himself, said at a convention. He was talking to Firefly Fans and mis-spoke and said Firefly Flans (you try saying it 5 times fast) and the term was born. It's kinda of a joke in honor of him.

Sooo, have a thing for Gina do ya?

From what I understand, she hasn't shown up to many since she got, wait for it....married. Yup, I'm sorry Shooto, but she married Lawrence Fishburn.

Darn that Morpheus after all huh?

rumor had it that Gina has (or had depending on who i heard it from) a contract with Creation, and she couldent attend any conventions that werent produced by Creation. the Flanvention is put on by Booster Events, a compeditor of Creation, so according to the rumored contract, Gina was legaly unable to attend the convention. i have also heard that this elleged contract expired Dec 31st, and she is now free to guest at any convention. im kinda new to the serenity 'verse but i also hear Gina doesnt show up to many of the events, and missed the premier. but that could have something to do with her being married recently.

I think it might be due to the fact that she had been on the convention circuit for a number of years even before Firefly launched and therefore probably feels she has "been there, done that" in a sense.

It's a great pity because she seems very intelligent and let me tell, you in person... drop dead gorgeous.

Matt... or any Brit... how much did it cost you in total last year? How much were flights and such? Obviously it'll be different this year but I just want a vague idea...

Well, I had a little help from some great friends.

But, to do it on a budget...

My flight was £270.
The weekend pass would be about £125
I'm not too sure about the hotel cost yet though...

But it is doable!

The 1st one was *explitive* awesome. I took my friend who had never seen the show nor the series but was intrigued by the storyline that I had explained to him (and intrigued by Summer ). Afterwards he told me he hadnt laughed that hard in awhile and that it was the best expo he'd ever been to. More importantly, he became an instant fan and I rejoyced. I just hope the same cast shows up again, even though it would be great if Zoe showed up.

I'll be in my bunk.

Thanks for the heads-up, CCR.

Looks like I might have to spring for an annual VIP pass -- I attended the special luncheon last year, and there's no way I'm going to miss that at the next FV.

My company has quarterly Board of Directors meetings.. 4 times a year - meaning I only have 4 weekends a year where I am always definitely tied up with work. Why is the Big Damn Flanvention II the same weekend (different year) as the Big Damn Flanvention I? Of course that is one of those four weekends out of 52 when I can't make it!!

Well having never been to a convention, I'm thinking I will hit this one.

All the reports on how much the cast enjoy their fans has me really interested. It would be great to meet them. Plus the Q&A's really look like a blast. That and the reports of all the drunken debautchery, lol!

Yeah, I kept a low profile on that. A few people knew, but I guess you weren't among 'em.

I sat with Alan and Summer. Absolutely wonderful. So relaxed and quiet. We talked about all kinds of things. (Did you ever read my Flanvention reports? May be tough to dig up now. Let me know if you'd like me to repost or email a copy.)

I ended up with a BDP this time, not a VIP pass. Turns out the annual VIPs don't include the special luncheon, so it didn't make sense to go that way.

Almost missed out on the BDP too, but the good folks at BE rescued me. I had one in my cart, and when I checked out the store accepted my order -- but the last one had sold before mine went through! At first they emailed me and said they were sold out and would refund my money, but because of the special circumstances they gave me seat 51 and converted that into a BDP.

I thought that was *exceptionally* cool of them. Thank you, thank you! BE is definitely

Could you repost your report...I need help with mine! LOL Also I want to see too..

I really am going to try to save up for the luncheon, it soudned awesome. Did the BDP's automatically come with a luncheon pass? Or do you still have to bid?

No, they don't. The only ones that do are those Lifetime VIP passes. Pretty hard to justify one of those when you live on the opposite coast

I was thinking I might just bump the Flan reports, if I can find them in the archived threads. Or maybe I could combine them into a single file and put it up on a hosting site... hmmm.

I just wrote in on my work schedule for next December. My boss asked, "What? Time off in December?"
I looked straight at him and asked, "Paid?"
He laughed. I don't think that bodes well for the paid part of it.

Good strategy, anyway. Ask for more than you think you can get, and you have a better shot at getting what you really need.

With 11 months to prepare, you should be fine.

You know, this is something worth suggesting to the Booster Events people -- there should be a way to put your online nick on your official badge. If they can't print it with your other info, maybe they could provide a sticker or something.
