Newbie here. I had a Firefly fest this weekend watched the DVD collection along with the outtakes. *SIGH* Why are there 37 versions of the Bachelor, Wife Trade and other brain numbing idiocy on TV?
I was looking at the airdates and for the life of me I could swear that it was 1998 or 1999 when I first saw an episode. I was living in SF until June of 1999 and I'm more than positive that I saw a couple of episodes of Firefly before I moved. Am I having an episode of early Alzheimer's? (NO, I'm not confusing it with Farscape. While Claudia Black - Aeryn Sun and Ben Browder - Crichton are hot, they are not half as hot as Jane (DROOL). He makes me want to lose my religion.) Was there a pilot episode then a hiatus? Anyone who has the 411, please let me know.

The dates on the DVD jive with the dates I remember seeing them air - and I had decided to tune in based on 'fall preview' articles, and such, rather than ads, so I think they would have mentioned if it had had some prior airing. Best of luck with the Alzheimer's, though! (and welcome to the board...(perhaps again?))

Must have been something else, or that would have been one heck of a hiatus! The show didn't air until fall 2002 (with the casting and filming occurring in the winter/spring of 2002).

Oh, and Welcome!

Couldn't have been since the show's 2 hour pilot (which didnt't air until December of 2002 due to it being replaced by a 1 hour version to make Fox network execs happy) wasn't filmed until the spring and summer of 2002.

The airdates on the DVD collection are the correct original airdates.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

Maybe you're thinking of Farscape?

SMAUG

I'm glad I am not the only one.. I only originally saw the Train Job on TV.. and although I though it was "ok".. it just didn't pull me in at the time like the pilot WOULD have!!! Stupid fox.. but anyway.. the pinnicale of my life happened on December 8th 2001.. and I would have sworn to hell and back and 10 times on Sunday that I saw the train job WAY WAY before that date... like a few years.. CERTAINLY not after..

But no matter how strongly I remember seeing it WAY before that date.. I couldn't argue with the facts... so I just chooked it up to my brain being so scrambled after Dec. 8th 2001 that I can't remember ordinary details :biggrin".. but now.. hmm.. why is someone else also remember seeing it so much earlier?

Smaug... ???

Memory is a funny thing.

I guarantee you didn't see any Firefly before the fall of 2002 -- unless you own a Delorean with a Mr. Fusion power supply.

I don't disagree on any particular point.

Spelling of Jayne's name: Sorry, had a fat finger moment while I was typing and I was at work so I just skimmed over what I wrote and left out the Y.
I watched Serenity last night and I gasped and cried when Wash was killed. That wrecked my nerves.

Train Job opens up with them in the bar on Unification Day, fight ensues, Wash comes to the rescue, right? Cause that's the first one I remembering seeing and I was most definitely living in SF at the time. HHHHMMM, mysterious. I'll have to do some more digging, I don't like being wrong. At least I am not alone in my dazed and muddled state. Thanks!
