Ok guys I hated my job for the last 4 years. SO I started applying for new jobs. I then found Firefly. Watching firefly episodes give me a new feeling of wanting to be an individual and to be the best person i can be. I applied for a new job. The night before the interview I watched Jaynestown. The next day I got called and they want me to start the end of january :D. So that's what Firefly means to me. I have a new cool job and I amso happy :D

So if Firefly taps into peoples feelins maybe another network should pick up on FIrefly. Or maybe you networks think it will never make any money????? LMAO these guys have not got a clue

Yay for j6engo1977. Glad you got yourself a job. Congrats. Sometimes, a good tv show, book, or anything that you're passionate about can help you get through the hardest of times, not to mention sometimes act as good luck charms now and then.

Jayne: Are you saying River's a witch?
Wash: Yes, Jayne, she's a witch. She's had congress with the Beast.
Jayne: She's in Congress?
Wash: How did your brain even learn human speech? I'm just so curious!

For me Firefly/Serenity has made me realize what I want to do with my life, and being young that is of definit value. It has made me realize just how much I love and want to be an actor, Also showed me I am pretty damn good lol

Wow, what a great thread. I had a similar experience that was influenced by the show. Shortly after it was canceled I slipped into a pretty deep depression. I hated my job, and Fox had taken about the only thing I'd found in years that I really enjoyed. I ended up quitting the job I hated and decided to look for something better. I went for several months unemployed.

I gave up good paying job as a union sheet metal worker to try my hand at computer programming. The thing is, I have no college degree, no training and no experience as a programmer. I just love doing it and have taught myself over the years as a hobby. I wrote up a pathetically slim resume and mailed it out in vain. Not even one reply. Then one night, on a lark, I found an ad on GaveDev.net. A new game company in Philadelphia was looking for programmers of all experience levels. What really caught my eye was the final statement in the ad - "Please come to our website and answer a series of essay questions. This is the beginning of our application process. Do NOT send resumes. We hire people, not resumes."

Well, I followed the link, answered the questions and found out more about the company. To make a long story short, I fell in love with what they are all about. They truly want to find a new way to do business. Anyway, they liked my answers and arranged a phone interview. I actually interviewed with the CEO. The discussion went well, with topics ranging from politics, personal philosophy and overall attitude. They guy was really cool.

At the end of the discussion he asked, "What else are you into? Anything else you'd like to tell me about?".....hehe, I couldn't help myself and mentioned that I'd been working on a roleplaying game based a television show I enjoyed. I described the game and after a bit he stopped me asking "Are you talking about Firefly?!" Yup, he's a huge fan of the show and has the DVD's in his office. Can you believe it?

Well, I got hired, and it's turned out to be the best thing that's ever happened to me. I love the work and everyone here. Most of them are Firefly fans, so how can I not? Shortly after I started, we all went to see the Serenity premiere. It's been a great ride so far.

Sorry if that was longwinded, but I just had to share that.

WOW!
Great stories!
And congrats on the fabulous jobs. Hopefully everything will continue to look up from here on out!

I fell into a depression this summer after the death of a family member, followed soon after by the death of a dear friend. I, the prolific writer of multiple genres, couldn't write.

I tried, but the images didn't come. The words seemed crumbly and stale. There was no magic. Then, I was dragged to see "Serenity". A week later, I had watched all of "Firefly" and seen "Serenity" twice more.

That night, after the third viewing, I sat down and wrote, "Not Afraid Of Having". I was BACK!

"Firefly" inspires me.

Wow, that is a great story.

Of course he hired you, you are both Browncoats.

Its amazing that how may lives have been changed for the better because of Firefly.

I have met many Browncoats that are like family that I would never have met otherwise. I have traveled to meet Browncoats all over the US. Firefly has brought me so many wonderful experiences.

Most of all Serenity is a dream come true.

Great stuff Serg :D It seriously does make me emotional reading true life stories like that. You know programming is the way forward and even though money is not important to me that is definately where the money is. Good luck with your future dude it looks good :) I enjoy coding myself but I struggle with it. I know HTML/CSS, Javascript but I am studying ASP.NET at the moment and I have to really really study hard. Serg tell us more about that RPG I'm sure everyone on here would be more than interested :)

Some people are Christians, some people are muslims and some people juggle geese but our belief is in Firefly. Makes perfect sense to me :)

Man, I would love that to happen. It's so cool when everything just falls into place like that. Also cool that your coworkers are into Firefly. I've been trying to get my coworkers into it but haven't had any succes yet.

It's not complete, I had to kind of abandon it when the new job came up, but you can download it here if you like:

We're working on a demo now, still looking for a publisher. It's a casual fantasy game, in a full 3D environment but aimed more and the non-hardcore gamer market. Fortunately we're leveraging a fair amount of web development and consulting while we work to get a deal signed - so we keep a decent cashflow. Unfortunately I can't talk much about the game until that happens. I'll let you all know if and when.

I've just downloaded the PDF serg. Brilliant, I'm totally mesmorised by it. It covers all the bases :) I used to play Call of Cathulu but I haven't RPG'ed for a long time. I would definately blow the dust off my D20 for that :)

Hey! Thanks for the encouragement. It's been a fun system. We play with it as an add-on to the Buffy ruleset and we tried it once with old school Traveller. I should finish it up someday.

I tried some open playtesting and found most gamers didn't like it much. Not quite sure why. Powergamers hated it.
