There was a thread about this about a week ago. No one really jumped on it, maybe it'll get the attention it deserves this go around.
Either way, I already voted. Make sure to vote Nathan and Summer for best actor and actress and Joss for director.

Current standings!

"Best Picture (English Language)":

1. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire 23% with 8762 votes

2. Brokeback Mountain 13% with 4927 votes.

3. King Kong 11% with 4304 votes

4. Sin City 11% with 4063 votes.

5. Serenity 8% with 3064 votes

YAY! TOP FIVE!

6. Batman Begins 8% with 2942 votes

7. Crash (2004) 7% with 2613 votes

8. Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith 6% with 2393 votes

9. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe 4% with 1789 votes

10. Munich 4% with 1663 votes

Check it out! Serenity's beat out a Speilberg film by a mile and a half! *shock* Woot, as it were!

Now, "Best Actor":

1. Heath Ledger for Brokeback Mountain (2005) 20% with 4608

2. Daniel Radcliffe for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) 15% with 3471

(Daniel Radcliffe!? He was OK, but seriously...)

3. Philip Seymour Hoffman for Capote (2005) 13% with 2994

4. Joaquin Phoenix for Walk the Line (2005) 13% with 2923

5. Johnny Depp for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) 9% with 2073

(I suppose there's no shame in being outvoted by Johnny Depp. Outside of the Firefly/Serenity cast, he's absolutely my favorite actor - and I say this utterly based on his actual acting skill, too)

6. Christian Bale for Batman Begins (2005) 8% with 1919

7. Nathan Fillion for Serenity (2005) 7% with 1594

YAY! I certainly voted for him (though it was a real tossup for me between him and Adam).

8. Russell Crowe for Cinderella Man (2005) 5% with 1309

9. Viggo Mortensen for A History of Violence (2005) 3% with 860

10. Ralph Fiennes for The Constant Gardener (2005) 3% with 698

(For The Constant Gardner!? What about his turn as Voldemort!? Though admittedly, I haven't seen The Constant Gardner yet...)

"Best Actress":

1. Reese Witherspoon for Walk the Line (2005) 28% with 5714

2. Naomi Watts for King Kong (2005) 23% with 4580

3. Emma Watson for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) 14% with 2860

(Well, she was good, but I'm not sure about #3...)

4. Keira Knightley for Pride & Prejudice (2005) 8% with 1685

5.Summer Glau for Serenity (2005) 6% with 1321

WOOT! Top five! Go Summer! (I voted for her, too! Whee!)

6. Felicity Huffman for Transamerica (2005) 6%
with 1258

(I'm thrilled for Summer and glad she's beating out Huffman right now, but I must say I'm glad to see Huffman on the list, even though its for TransAmerica and not, obviously, her TV work as Desperate Housewife Lynnete Schavo. Yes, it's my big-time guilty pleasure, why do you ask?)

7. Maria Bello for A History of Violence (2005) 3% with 744

8. Angelina Jolie for Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) 2%
with 573

(Huh. I'll have to check that out. It sounded cute...)

9. Joan Allen for The Upside of Anger (2005) 2% with 516

10. Charlize Theron for North Country (2005) 2% with 495

(I notice it's for her OMG IMPORTANT DRAMA film this year... and not for Aeon Flux. Heh. As one person said: "Theron has her Oscar. Now she has her Catwoman.")

"Best Supporting Actor":

1. Jake Gyllenhaal for Brokeback Mountain (2005) 23% with 3669

2. Rupert Grint for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) 22% with 3473

3. Paul Giamatti for Cinderella Man (2005) 13% with 2167

4. Matt Dillon for Crash (2004) 8% with 1328

(Man, when was this even in theatres? I'm not even sure I've heard of it!)

5. Mickey Rourke for Sin City (2005) 7% with 1246

6. George Clooney for Syriana (2005) 6% with 1083

7. Jack Black for King Kong (2005) 5% with 876

8. Adam Baldwin for Serenity (2005) 4% with 728

Whee!

:( Too bad Alan didn't also make the list, though (I voted for him myself). But oh well, Adam deserves a bit of love for Jayne, too. As he never, ever ceases to amuse me, nor many others!

9. Michael Caine for Batman Begins (2005) 3% with 624

10. Ian McDiarmid for Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005) 3% with 525

What the hell!? Not ONE of the Serenity ladies is on the Supporting Actress list! Nooo! Jewel!!!! Why hath no one else voted for thee!? And Gina, too!

"Best Director":

1.Peter Jackson for King Kong (2005) 22% with 5125

2. Ang Lee for Brokeback Mountain (2005) 20% with 4539

3. Mike Newell for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) 14% with 3285

WHAT!? Oh come ON! EVEN *I* could have directed GoF better than that! :

4. Joss Whedon for Serenity (2005) 9% with 2077

YAY!!! He not only made the list, he also made the top five, nay TOP FOUR! Here's the good part, though:

5. Steven Spielberg for Munich (2005) 8% with 1848

He's thus far beat out Spielberg by another mile and a half!

6. Robert Rodriguez for Sin City (2005) 7% with 1571

7. Christopher Nolan for Batman Begins (2005) 5% with 1268

And the Batman Begins guy by even more than that! HA!

8. George Clooney for Good Night, and Good Luck. (2005) 4% with 974

9. George Lucas for Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005) 3% with 849

It's sad to see a franchise whose spirit affected our beloved 'verse get the crap beaten out of it by it in the polls... but it is on occasion hilarious.

No, wait, it's not sad at all. It's just hilarious. To me, at least. Considering Joss described Serenity in "Two words: 'Millenium' and 'Falcon'." at one point. Episode III has yet to even hit close to 1,000!

10. David Cronenberg for A History of Violence (2005) 3% with 771

I am headdesking over the "Best Foreign Language (non-English) Film" category. Memoirs of a Geisha was nominated. The film's IN bloody English! Idiots. You can TELL FROM THE BLOODY TRAILERS ALONE! ARGH! FOREIGN LANGUAGE =/= SIMPLY BEING ABOUT A FOREIGN CULTURE!

Er... I'm OK. Really. I'm fine now. Eh... eheh.

Serenity is also #8 on the "Funniest" list, with 1091 votes; it's sandwiched in between Madagascar (#9 with 942 votes) and Wallace & Gromit (#7 with 1182 votes). That'd be my vote contributing to that one, since I STILL can't get over that "The hell with this, I'm gonna live!" line. Best. Comedic. Scene. Crammed in the midst of drama. EVER.

Serenity did not make the "Scariest" list at this point... which is ridiculous, because I was white-knuckled throughout the entire climax of the film, and yet Harry Potter takes the #3 spot! What the hell!?

"Best Action Movie":

1.Batman Begins (2005) 24% with 9068

2. King Kong (2005) 14% with 5409

3. Sin City (2005) 13% with 4941

4. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) 11% with 4477

5. Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005) 11% with 4135

6. Serenity (2005) 8% with 3350

Only # SIX!? Why isn't it in the top five!? Ah, but at least it made the list and is probably secure in staying on it, what with being in the middle.

7. Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) 7% with 2761

8. War of the Worlds (2005) 4% with 1828

9. The Island (2005) 2% with 1100

10. Kingdom of Heaven (2005) 1% with 434

"Best Popcorn (Most Entertaining) Movie":

1. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) 25% with 8295

(Doesn't look like we'll beat it. *sigh*)

2. King Kong (2005) 21% with 7111

3. Batman Begins (2005) 10% with 3437

4. Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005) 10% with 3409

5. Serenity (2005) 9% with 3089

WOOT! Top five!

And at this rate, we might still be able to beat out Star Wars and/or Batman Begins to take third or fourth!

6. Sin City (2005) 6% with 2236

7. Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) 4% with 1449

8. Wedding Crashers (2005) 4% with 1386

9. War of the Worlds (2005) 3% with 1239

10. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005) 3% with 1184

Don't feel bad about Star Wars and HP dominating so many of the rankings, though. They're also on the "Worst Picture" list; both have a "Worst Actor", "Worst Supporting Actor" and "Worst Supporting Actress" in the lists; Star Wars has a "Worst Actress"; BOTH made both "Worst Screenplay" and "Worst Director"; HP also got "Worst Song", "Worst Trailer", and "Worst Poster" (What!? Hey, I liked the HP GoF posters...!); and Star Wars also made "Worst Visual Effects", "Worst Title", and "Worst Poster".

It should be noted, of course, that NOT ONCE was Serenity remotely featured in ANY of the "Worst" lists, not even for the poster (well, it's OK on its own, but not a particularly good way to advertize the film, IMO) or Worst Trailer (I HATED a lot of the trailers for Serenity. Some of them gave the TOTALLY wrong impression about River )!

Yay for our BDM! I SO TOTALLY VOTED! When I saw the results I laughed out loud. Serenity and our BDH's are in almost every single one of the "Best of 2005" lists. Gosh, what more could we wish for? (Okay, I wish that it would beat out the other movies and make the top of the list, but "if wishes were horses, we'd all be eatin' steak".--I just love Jayne, don't you? He cracks me up!)

Wacky fun!

Serenity is cetainly moving up the polls

Here are the categories the are in with the current results.

#5 for Best Picture

#7 for Best Actor, Nathan Fillion (Mal)

#5 for Best Actress, Summer Glau (River)

#8 for Best Supporting Actor, Adam Bladwin (Jayne)

#4 for Best Director, Joss Whedon (YAY go Joss)

#8 for funniest movie

#6 for Best Action Movie

#5 for Best Popcorn Movie (Most Entertaining Movie)

Unfortunatly Serenity didn't make it into the Best Supporting Actress catorgory but i think Jewel Staite (Kaylee)and Morena Baccarin(Inara)should both get it.

That puts us in the Top 5 for 4 categories so come on guys keep voting for serenity.

as of early Saturday 14th, Serenity's still #5 overall, with Sith currently trailing by 103 votes. It's also, 5th best action movie & 6th funniest movie. Also gratifying are results for Joss Whedon, #4 for Best Director, Summer Glau, #5 for best Actress & Nathan Fillion is #7 for best Actor. And that's on a VERY high-profile, VERY well-known-worldwide website & their overall-best poll for 2005.

Still... it needs more work, I think... more fresh newbie-voters. With as few votes as are currently on the totals, I risk being when there are so many more browncoats than those few votes would indicate.

As I said on another thread, I personally (that's just me) don't believe in the mechanic of internet polls and the validity of their outcome. Same goes for internet petitions. Truthfully, I've never heard of any poll or petition on the net that actually achieved something.

No, no... no stoning... well... unless, like me, you just listened to Bob Dylan's classic, "Rainy Day Women #12 & 35," and therefore we'll stone ya as in "...EV'rybody must get..."

Now your point is well-taken and, obviously true but, what's the fun in only doing things specifically calibrated to "actually achieve something." People do lots of things for no reason - for (as I said fun - on a whim - jutht to be thilly - because of an uncontrollable impulse... on-n-on. Heck, I try to "actually achieve something" by going to vote in the regular national elections & feel like I just wasted my time because not a damned thing I voted for occured or, seemed to matter - but I go to let my miserably ignored voice get heard somehow anyway. Sometimes my only consolation is that I might be creating a piece of performance art... something akin to (with apologies to the ghost of Roger Zelazny) lying down in my hammock with the last bottle of scotch on Earth to contemplate the futility of all Human endeavor.
