I've never posted a new thread before but thought I'd just share this little thing....

Going through my Sunday newspaper ads and looking at the Target(r) Circular - to what does my wandering eye appear..."Firefly" as one of the 10 "TV on DVDs" advertised.

I know I've seen it in the store - but to actually print it on one of their circulars says alot about our little show. They generally only pick the items to highlight that they think will bring people in (or that they have ALOT of that they can't get rid of - which is probably not the case here). Printing color circulars is very expensive - so they want to make the most of their advertising dollar. Don't know if it's national - or if they do regional versions, but considering I'm in the South where this genre is not generally as successful as in other areas (we are getting much better though!) - I think it's pretty shiny!

Among the other selections highlighted are "Seinfeld", "Family Guy", "Friends", and "CSI", so it's in generally good company. Sadly it did not include "Buffy" or "Angel" which I know they also carry - but I do think this says a lot about what Target(r) feels will sell right now - and right now they think people are looking for "Firefly!". WOO HOO! Maybe we'll get some new browncoats who will then go on to buy the BDM!

I was delightfully suprised when I saw this in my Target ad as well. I'm glad they're advertising it, great to see it get attention. Considering they put it with CSI, Family Guy, Seinfeld, and Friends, I think it's good news. I'm thinking it's probably selling well enough that they figure they should bring it to their consumers' attention by letting them know, "yes, if you want it, we have it." that is usually the case as to why they would advertise it, especially with those other series which are some of the best-sellers right now. and it must be national. you said you're in the south, well i'm up in North Dakota. Shiny!

Then a double WOO HOO if it's national!

Also noted in another thread that someone saw that Target had them situated at the end rows for high visibility and some of them were already sold! Means it's working!

Could it be there's a browncoat working in merchandising/marketing from within Target? Or are we finally getting through to the "Mass" distributors? Whichever - today Target is shiny with me!

This is really good ruttin' news.

It wouldn't surprise me if the end cap location is tied right in with the ad. Why advertise something and then make it hard to find?

Maybe I'll take a quick trip to the local Tar-zhay to see if they have it displayed the same way here in Mass.

I don't disagree on any particular point.

shiny! That's great!

Target's been good to Serenity. When I was at target the other day I saw that Serenity was a featured DVD. And it took up an entire row of holders for it. No other DVD took up that much space.

Didn't see the Target circular but I'll have to dig it out and check it out.

I was at Best Buy yesterday and it looked like they had just restocked the Firefly DVD sets.

Also just got back from my local Walmart. They had about 15 copies of Serenity located in the Best Sellers near the new releases but they were almost all full screen editions. I saw only 2 widescreen editions. The widescreen version must be going before the full screen version.

I'll have to check my local Target! I went to the mall shortly after Christmas and checked the stores for Firefly (since I don't own it yet). No one had it! The guy I talked to at one store (Sun Coast I think) said they couldn't keep it in it was so popular! Woo Hoo!

A recent convert, but a fervent one!

I haven't been in Target recently but I was in Best Buy over the weekend and they had about 2 dozen sets at the end of an aisle. I've never seen it at this store so there must have been a lot of requests by customers.

Also, just as I walked into the TV section the DVD ad for our BDM came up on all of the plasma screens. I think the word is starting to spread.

Cool.

When the set first came out, my local Target didn't even carry it.

I went to Target in Portland OR to pick up a copy tonight and the first one was out of it! (But they had a spot on an endcap for it :-)

The 2nd one had only 3 copies and none left of the widescreen Serenity... *sigh* guess I'll have to wait a little longer to replace my fullscreen (Christmas gift) with a widescreen:-/ But that at least means it's selling!

I got my Firefly set (after becomeing obsessed and not being able to return the Netflix set until I had my own in the house) at Tower Records just after Christmas. It was on a wall display with other select TV show DVD sets.

Also had lots of copies of Serenity (widescreen of course...there should be NO other way!)

and then (as my obsession grew) I needed the Firefly soundstrack and Visual Companion and was too impatient to wait for online delivery so I took a chance and ran back to Tower and was pleasently suprised to find them both front and center

'course...Im in NYC so maybe that 's not so special but still......
