Quote:Originally posted by Channain: Watching Peacemakers on USA last night, the marshal had a confrontation with a baddie he knew from the Civil War and I mentioned to my sister I completely expected him to say something like "You gone and got yourself looking mighty hideous." Caught that the other night. I liked, "I really don't want to have to kill you tonight." Also, the detective really surprised me with the knife-throwing, nearly as much as when Simon jumps off of the catwalk in 'Serenity'. Minor quibble, the way they bring the detective onboard, at the end, isn't very convincing. It is something of a Firefly substitute, though A long, long time ago, I can still remember How those stories used to make me smile; And I knew that if I had God's grace, I could save the human race From anything but itself for awhile.

I burst out laughing and got the you-better-get-your-ass-back-to-work look from my boss. Of course then they started talking about making asphalt and it ruined the effect. ------------------------------------- It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it. Laughed real hard and made myself very happy. Thought while I was watching it, that it would have to be a crucial part of any great shindig.

Quote:Originally posted by stillshiny: OK, you I want to meet. Oh... StillShiny, I could tell you storys.. here is just one... that you might really enjoy... I grew up on a working farm, we had beef cattle, pigs, and we also raised large and small grains... and unlike today... I was raised to be very independent! I only had a babysitter a very, very few times.. I was pretty much on my ow on my own pretty much when I was 10 or 11... their philosophy was if I can go off on my pony or be out with the pigs or cattle, and be on my own for 10 -12+ hours a day why couldn't I take care of myself other wise... Any way when my dad when back to Alaska to work, my mother took a trip to Alaska to visit her parents, this was when I was only like 13 or 14 or so... Our house was on a smallish private lake that was always filled with geese from early spring to late fall, well these hunter guys drove down into the field with-in striking distance... (shot gun distance) of our geese.. I hopped on my horse and rode Hell-bent-for-election... up to where they were and told them they were on private property and that they couldn't hunt here!!!! There were 3-4 guys and the guy that seemed to be in charge (a Jayne-type Macho guy), looked at me, then, very subtley laid his shotgun across the hood of the blazer (the barrel of the weapon pointed at me) and very simply said, "What are you going to do about it???" I may have been young but common sense told me that they knew that my parents were out of town, (small town of population 1200, they publish that stuff in the paper), and I was out-numbered , so I turned my horse around and rode straight back up to the house... where my 22 with scope was in the house... Loaded when my parents were away... Hey, now, you never know when varmints may be around... Well, I ran into the house and grabed my 22, ran back out just as they were approaching our geese, weapons raised and ready, and I..... with one shot put a round into a tire on thier vehicle. I will never ever for get these guys stopping dead in their tracks... knowing that they had shotguns... (short Range) and I had a rifle... Long Range... and I WAS/AM A GOOD SHOT! They stood there for the longest time... looking toward the house, then at the geese, then back to the house, then back at the geese... the 'Jayne-type guy' advanced a couple steps toward the lake, and I shouted at the top of my lungs that unless they had more then one spare in their car, or they wanted to walk 12 miles back into town, they better change their flat and leave... or the county Sherriff that I called would give them a ride to town.. (Yes, YES, looking back now... it wasn't the best plan in the world but... I couldn't let them shoot our geese!!! The guys went to the rear of their vehicle, put their weapons in thier cases, changed the tire and left... Never to be seen or heard from agian... Leah... thinking of the good-ole-days..
