Ok, I must be going gorram nuts. One of my oldest friends whom I recently tried to convert, said she tried watching an episode but didn't get it and didn't like it. I got really disturbed by this and actually considered rethinking the friendship! I couldn't help thinking there must be something wrong with her for not liking Firefly!

This kind of thing happen to anybody else?

I can honestly say I WOULD rethink the friendship for a brief second. But then I would feel badly about that considering everyone can't have the same tastes. I mean, if she dislikes ALL scifi, or doesn't understand any of Joss' work, give her a break.

Try to focus on her good traits! Write down a list if you have to.

Not *exactly* the same, but similar!

Me and my best friend bought Firefly after seeing Serenity - neither of us had seen the series except the Train Job (it was on a freebie disc with a magazine) but we both walked out of the cinema, eager to see where it all began. So we separately bought the discs and separately watched them...

I however, decided to watch Our Mrs. Reynolds, Trash, Ariel (the latter half of the episodes first) ... don't ask why, I think it had something to do with the idea of seeing Captain Tightpants' bum! whilst she started from Serenity and did what any normal person does and watched them in order, hehe!

But after half an hour of Serenity (the episode), she tells me 'erh this show is boring, I can't be bothered to watch the rest!' and I was all, 'no, keep going, they get better by around disc three' and so when she finally got to the latter half of the episodes, she was hooked with the humour, wit, drama and close relationships the episodes dealt with.

So ... phew, after that big rant (!), I think your friend may have picked the *wrong* episode to start watching. Me and my friend found some of them are better than others so I'd force another ep on her before completing canning the friendship hehe!

Point #1: Don't hold it against your friend too much. I took about half a dozen friends to see Serenity. Several became converts. One FELL ASLEEP!! For a split second I almost hit him, but held back...he's a good guy, and I can't hold a lack of taste against him.

Point #2: Personally, I can't see how a person wouldn't be instantly entertained by any one of the episodes. But it could be that that was the problem. Can't go wrong with Serenity (pilot) or Ariel.

Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!

Hmm...I wonder which episode she watched. It had such little impact on her she couldn't even describe it to me. I've considered including 'suggested episode viewing order lists' with my lent out boxsets, with the most popular titles on top (ie Our Mrs Reynolds, Objects in Space). I guess I'll have to now.

I'll just pretend she lied and didn't watch any episodes. Then I can give our friendship another chance.

It happens sometimes. It's worst when it's someone who's opinion and taste you normally respect. I got a friend of mine at work to watch and ep, and he said it was too "hokey." But he redeemed himself by saying he liked the movie...

Never desert your friends because of them having different tastes. Most of my friends think I'm far out and Fong luh, but they stick by me, giving me the chance to try and rub off on them, because their cool. Would you want your friends to desert you, just because you like Firefly? Then don't be a Gorram Hwoon dahn and desert them just because they don't get it. Friends should be above that, and like each other for who they are, not waht shows they watch, what clothes they wear, or what music they listen to.

If you play Nationstates.net check out the region Firefly.

A similar thing happened to me at work. One of the coolest people I know told me that he thought SERENITY was weird and I was just stunned!!! For a second... I thought about getting him more acquainted with my fists and then he redeemed himself by saying that it was still ok ( the poor guy probably saw the look of shock/rage (hehe!) on my face) and then I thought about all the good things the guy's done for me... He trained me when I first got promoted at work and he's just such a nice guy overall. I still think he's cool.... He's still one of the few people that I would choose to work with and as far as I'm concerned... He's still a friend and I'm still gonna try and ask him to watch FIREFLY and IF that doesn't do the trick... I'll just have to console myself with these words from Wash.... "Some people juggle geese". GEESE!!!!!
