Walmart now has a new version of the Serenity DVD featuring (if the online listing is accurate) a package that matches the U.S. movie poster. It's listed as "coming soon" at $25.48. I presume it's the hi-def DVD.

I think it may be a dts version of the movie. They had a copy of it at Wal-mart the day it came out on video. I forgot what it said, but it was kinda cheap looking with a plain plastic case and a copy of the poster just kinda stuck in (if that makes sense!)

It's also weird that's listed under the "In Theaters Now" category...

I hope they include a trailer, a TV spot, and certainly an insert that lists chapters, etc. (My first copy just had an ad inside for Battlestar Gallactica. I thought I was shorted until I opened my second copy and saw the same thing.)

This might be an error or we are going to have a long time two to wait for this one.

If you search the Wal-Mart site's movies you'll come up with the Serenity movies which this one is listed. Now if you read the description for this product you'll notice something funny...

Now that is a long time to wait for a DVD to be released.

Last year while I waited for the DVD of NewsRadio, Amazon showed the release date as something like 2010 or 2020. That acted as a placeholder until they got the actual date.

(If you aren't familiar with NewsRadio, check it out. It was in my opinion the best sitcom ever. Excellent quirky humor and a great ensemble cast, including the inimitable Phil Hartman. It managed to hold on for 5 years in spite of poor treatment by the network. It was bumped all over the schedule, making it hard for fans to keep track of, and even harder for someone like me who didn't discover it until its last months.)

You're probably right but it does seem kind of weird that we haven't heard anything about this version yet.

I don't think it is the HD version as I don't think they're going to releasing the HD players for a bit yet. And the US special edition version has only been rumored. You would think that there would have been an official announcement by now.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

BOWIE

sorry, but someone mentioned a poster, shoved into a DVD case, and I just had to take this time, to gloat.

I got my poster right off the wall of the movie theator, compleate with a shiny frame to keep it clean and dust free.

No I didn't steal it, I got permission from the manedger, with the help of a little *wink* encouragment.

If you play Nationstates.net check out the region Firefly.

I think it's a safe bet it's the HD version, since Universal has already (fairly recently) announced that it's among the first titles they will be releasing in HD format. Once that announcement came down, I assume Wal-Mart put a placeholder listing into their system, and used the default image for the property -- which in this case would be the original US poster.

The DTS Audio Track is good clue that this will be the HD-DVD version. All HD-DVDs and Blue Ray DVDs are to come with a DTS track as the standard for both formats.

I did that too!!! I haven't bought a frame, so my poster's sitting in the container that they gave it to me in.

Why? Because I helped them bring Serenity to their theater. Who knew that if I helped them bring in a lot of money, I'd get a free full-sized theatrical poster.

I'm happy. I'm getting it framed, then it goes up on my wall.
