Hired it out on DVD today. What a load of CRAPOLA! I read that it took 230 million at the cinemas.... As Jubal would say "does that make sense to you?". It says a lot about most of the population in the world when Serenity is beaten by crap like that.. I reckon most people must be walking around with circus music playing in their heads like Homer Simpson.

anyways.. I just had to vent.

I think it's the Angelina Jolie hotness factor. At least it was for me. :D

The circus music is still there, I'm just good at supressing it most of the time. That, and the voices. All the evil voices...

Sorry, have to add my two cents. I am probably in the serious minority here, but I just do not think she is THAT gorgeous. She seems to have achieved this level of attractiveness that I find confusing. Perhaps it is just personal preference. :\

I think that the movie had 3 things going for it:

1. Angelina Jolie for the lads
2. Brad Pitt for the ladies
3. The scandal around their alleged off-screen affair

Maybe Nathan Fillion should've slept with Joss...... (j/k)

It's very much a "disposable" film for me - watch once and then disgard. I wouldn't ever buy it, that's for sure.

In all honesty, it's really not that good of a flick. The only reason I saw this movie was because my friend wanted to go and I had nothing better to do. I really don't think Angelina is all that fabulous, and I don't know about any other ladies out there, but the whole "cheated on my wife with a a stick bug" thing kind of made Brad less attractive to me.

I'm with mrben, this one is definatly disposable.

Exactly right. Just a money making platform that the dim witted general populace lap up and run to the cinema in their droves to see. Aimed at 20 somethings with disposable incomes and ideals of a perfect world of consumerism that is brainwashed into them by the media. They have no individual thought and no aspirations of becoming a better person and the sad thing is they don't realise it. The Matrix is not far from the truth.

Only if everyone where a Browncoat and then the world would be a better place :)

It's sad when movies like that make more money than a genius movie like Serenity. I believe about 70% of the population are morons and that's why bad movies do well. I don't get Brad and Angelina's appeal. Yeah, Brad's been in some of my favorite movies: Interview with the Vampire and Fight Club, but he sucks at acting. I can't think of one semi-ok movie Angelina was in since Hackers. I used to think she was gorgeous but then she started kissing her brother on the mouth... and married Billy Bob... and wore a bottle of blood around her neck

Mal would kick Han Solo's ass.

Actually, I think Brad Pitt is quite a reasonable actor - IMHO he was good in se7en, Twelve Monkeys, and a couple of other things. Recently, though, he's started making more 'blockbuster' type films, which is a shame.

Not that I'm a Brad Pitt fan, but he's not a horrendous actor - have you seen him in 12 Monkeys? I can't make my eyes that googly, so I give him props. Fight Club and Seven are also examples of him not totally sucking.

As for Angelina - I'm sorry. I think she's hot. Love the long dark hair, lips and boobies. Can I say boobies? With the exception of the female cast of Firefly, I have 3 fav female actresses (not so much for acting ability, but for general cuteness): Angelina Joie, Naomi Watts, and Jennifer Connolly.

My crush on Jennifer Connolly goes all the way back to Labyrinth! (We're about the same age)

Anyway, I'm not going to defend Brangelina! I think the majority of the population are sheep being led around by giant corporations - but I still think she's hot!

I didn't think it was all that terrible a film. Pleasant, let-your-brain-coast entertainment with a few good moments here and there. I'm no Jolie fan, and Pitt does nothing for my wife, but I'd certainly bet the combined star power was the big box office draw. It's just how such things work.

See, now you guys made me feel like a total idiot cuz I liked the movie. I thought it was fun with some good action scenes. And Brad Pitt is indeed very hot. It's not near as good as Serenity, but it's still collection worthy.

Of course, sometimes I think I have a split personality because part of me likes these mindless entertainment films, while the other part seeks out lesser known, better, and more thought-provoking films like Serenity. If only you guys could see my collection. It's such a huge and confusing range.

I didn't mean to come down on fans of the movie. We're all friends here. People can like whatever they want. I just think Serenity's cast deserved more attention than the big blockbuster movies with pretty actors who can't act.

Seems that all we need to get the back our 'verse is a decent sex scandal. Imagine this story for instance:

The girls of Firelfy talk about the mindblowing casting which had nothing to do with any mind after all

That would be quite a crowd puller I guess.

Well, yeah, I agree with you on that score. Serenity should have got just as much attention as Mr. and Mrs. Smith did, if not more. Fact of the matter is, though, Hollywood doesn't work that way. Sad but true. So I'm just gonna enjoy or not enjoy each film on its own merits and not worry about who is or isn't in it and how it does. It's about the only way to stay sane.

Maybe it's just me, but I can see the hottest babe and the world, and think she's gorgeous -- but once I find out what a total jerk she is, that hotness sizzles right out. Hotness may cause an initial attraction, but without something inside, she might as well be a cardboard cutout.

No, we are fooled by the package -- until the package speaks.

That's why I maintain that the best way to get over lust for someone you don't know, is to go up and talk to them. Works every time.

Unless, you're unfortunate enough to find someone with whom you actually agree and can respect. Fat chance of that happening -- these days.

Not that anyone needs another example of how we are blinded by appearances, but...

I was flipping through the channels this past weekend and this hot babe caught my eye, so I watched for a bit. Well, it turned out to be some vampire/werewolf sort of thing (which I totally avoid, not liking anything to do with horror/the occult, etc.) -- but I wanted to know who the actress was.

Well, it was Kate Beckinsale (never heard of her before)(guess I live a sheltered life). Anyhow, I decided to check her out on the internet, as I was mezmerized by her beauty. Well, I find her website and read a few lines of comments she's made, and suddenly this woman, who just moments before I'd found to be smokin' hot, was suddenly about as desirable to me as a baboon's posterior.

Granted, if everything I've ever said was posted publically for the whole world to see, I'm sure a baboon's posterior would come off as the more preferential of the two.

Glad I'm not a celebrity.

So is everyone who knows me.

This movie was a steaming pile of crap. The best acting in the movie was done by the things that exploded.

Anyone remember the old friends episode when Chandler was dating the actress?? On stage chemistry = no off stage chemistry...and no onstage chemistry....LOL

I could SO tell they were schtupping since they had absolutely NO chemistry in this movie.

I own a copy. I apparently have no taste. But then I never claimed to have any either.

But then again, I love FF/BDM so I can't be all that bad, I guess.

All of you whose main point is saying that Serenity deserved greater commercial success are preaching to the choir, I'm sure.

That being said, there is room in life for other movies, and they don't all require the same depth and texture that Joss can provide. I liked Mr. and Mrs. Smith. It was light on plot, but the character interaction between Pitt and Jolie kept me thoroughly entertained, as well as the chase scene in the minivan. I could have done with a shorter ending, though.

Unfortunately Hollywood aims at the LOWEST denominator and when it does it misses anyone with a brain. Firefly was a rare phoneix that turned to dust before its time (aahhh too much Harry Potter). What I really don't understand is how Someone like Joss Whedon who obviously has a money making reputation gets canned so quickly.

Hmmm. I've never thought of myself or been thought of, for that matter, as a lowest denominator. That I know of anyway. Let me just start by saying that Serenity is the best movie I've had the fortune to be made aware of in a very long time. Firefly being the best series--and I don't watch much regular television. However, that being said--I don't think it's taking away from the greatness that is Serenity to admit that Mr. & Mrs. Smith was an entertaining movie in it's own right. It's absolutely not as cerebral--yet it has it's engaging moments and humor quotient.
Also, I'm not a Brad Pitt fan--never thought he was that great of an actor--feel the same about Tom Cruise. The only movie I thought Brad excelled in was 12 Monkies. Anyhow, Nathan IMO blows them both away. I do, however, think that Angelina is an amazing actress. Regardless of her personal life--of which we can only speculate about. Here is what is so sad-- nobody here knows either of these people and what their lives are really like. It must be absolutely only worth the money to be an actor in the public spotlight. Imagine if your lives were so disected. Nobody deserves to be torn down like these people are for mere speculation and rumor--they aren't criminals. It really mystifies me how it's so easy for others to tear people down based on rumor--people that they don't know intimately. It must be so very hard on those that are maligned as well as their families and friends. What gives us the right to judge them? I'm sure each of us has someone in their lives that they know have been judged wrongly and how bad they have seen said family member or friend suffer. I, for one, have been one judged unfairly and know what it feels like--how bitter the pain is. Not something I'd wish on anyone else. The rant ends here--this is just a subject that brings home painful memories. Not trying to alienate anyone here, truly.
