First off, hello fellow Browncoats...this is the first thread I have ever started....

I have been a fan of Firefly/Serenity for a while, but I have recently begun to infect my friends and family...I got both DVDs for Christmas, and made my wife (very stubborn, non scifi lady) watch the pilot with me and she was hooked at "Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal..."....I should also say at this point that she is very pregnant...like due yesterday (literally), could blow at any second pregnant...

well, we have been watching an episode or two a night with our best friends...both who have seen Serenity, but not Firefly...I made them PROMISE not to tell my wife anything about the movie...

my wife got more and more involved with the show as it progressed, but it became very clear very early on the she was a Wash woman...loved that man...actually started laughing when I quoted him (NEVER laughs when I quote scifi)...

well, tonight we finally made it to Serenity...you could tell when Book died that she was very suspicious...is nothing sacred? her look said...You can't kill the PREACHER said the frown that adorned her brow..."

And then "I am a leaf on the wind, watch me soar..." and she is laughing, she has nervous tears, sitting on the edge of her seat...I should also take this opportunity to point out that she is "Simon Tam" type smart...graduated from a top 15 University in 3 years with dual major in Math and Chemistry...graduated med school very young...I only say this because she can be very detached from TV and movies...she takes an almost clinical approach to them...it was nice that she was this involved...

And then Wash died...here comes the warning...

DO NOT GET YOUR WIFE THAT IS 40 WEEKS PREGNANT INVOLVED IN A TV SHOW AND THEN SHOW HER A MOVIE WHEN HER FAVORITE CHARACTER DIES...

Women in that state are unstable, to say the least...they make River look like a pillar of sanity...my greatest thanks is that my guns were locked up and, in her advanced state, I was able to reach her scalpels first...might be writing this in falsetto had i not...

anyway, it bespeaks the quality of this show that it can move people to tears...we need more TV like this...

thanks for letting me eavesdrop this time, and become part of this community!

Wow. That's one hell of a story. I'm surprised she didn't go into labor then and there and deliver the baby out of horror. Guess her sympathetic nervous system didn't kick in.

Welcome anyways. Always good to have new people join. You're wife should get a username here if she adores Firefly/Serenity. She can read the fanfics and pretend that our favorite pilot still exists.

Jayne: Are you saying River's a witch?
Wash: Yes, Jayne, she's a witch. She's had congress with the Beast.
Jayne: She's in Congress?
Wash: How did your brain even learn human speech? I'm just so curious!

That's an awesome story! I have to email it to a coworker I converted. After I loaned her Firefly, and she got much more attached than anticipated, I realized Serenity is more violent than she usually likes. She's a sensitive soul, and watching someone getting slowly impaled could be too much for her. She told me that if any of the main characters die in the movie she'd probably get VERY upset. Kaylee and Wash are her favorites. Yikes!

I couldn't tell her not to watch the movie, so instead I tried to prepare her. I explained that there was an impaling, Reavers, and Mal gets beat up (as usual). I also warned her that they don't all make it out alive. She watched it with her husband and closed her eyes as necessary. The next day she let me know that she liked the movie, but Joss had no reason to kill Wash! It's always rough when someone tells you their favorite character is Book or Wash, just as you loan them the movie!

Jayne: I once hit a guy in the neck from 500 yards with a bent scope. Don't that count upstairs?
Book: Oh, it'll be taken into consideration.
Jayne: You made that sound kind of ominous.

Congratulations on the new baby, Trio and Mrs. Trio!

Aw - congrats on the baby boy!

Yeah, I just handed Serenity over to a recent convert approx. two minutes ago. She just watched my DVDs so I asked "Who's your favorite?" "Oh, I just love Wash, don't you?"

. . .and she's a lot bigger than me so I'm expecting an ass-whoopin' in about two and a half hours.

Great story. My wife was also very unhappy with Wash dying. Not like she was the only one, I was not happy with it either. He is so funny. But itt almost seemed to ruin the movie for her a bit.

Trio that is hilarious. I had a similar problem when my wife was very pregnant and her dog got out and hid in a cornfield all morning. It was definitely a Simon/River moment.

NINAH148

Well, my mom said she went into premature labor with me because she laughed so hard at (here's where I date myself) "What's Up, Doc?" that her water broke in the movie theatre. So, perhaps nothing's safe. I'm just glad I didn't get named Barbra. (I'm really just Nina, H is the first initial of my last name although everyone on line thinks I'm a Ninah).

I'm surprised she didn't go into labor. Still can't watch that part without my heart breaking. When it comes up, my kids turn to watch my face to see if I'm crying again.

Great story! Congrats on the youngling too!

My wife was not interested in the Firefly series and wasnt too interested in Serenity.

I dragged her along to the movies anyway.

Wash's death made her cry out in anguish in the middle of the theater.

She now enjoys the series as well.

Im a happy man :)

Joss really should have preceeded the movie with a warning to people with a history of heart disease and women who might be pregnant. Cause Serenity is one intense ride.

You didn't name him "Jayne"?!?!

I suppose you've heard the old Johnny Cash song "A Boy Named Sue" (or somesuch)??

Callin' him "Jayne" would've certainly not endeared you in his eyes.

Congrats again. Give a good ole' Browncoat welcome to the little one from us all.

I looked at the novelization before I went to the movie and teased my boyfriend about how I knew the ending, and the fact that I was not happy about it.

Before the movie started, I told my bf that I should stand up and announce how the movie ends. His loving response, "You're on your own then." He wouldn't have lifted a finger to help me.
