Hey guys, I just found this at our neighbor's site, serenitymovie.org. Thought I'd share, although some of ya have prolly already seen it if you visit our neighbors. So here it is:

Quote:

FIREFLY and Buffy creator Joss Whedon has let it slip that Morena Baccarin may be in line for the coveted role of Wonder Woman, according to Contactmusic.
Whedon reportedly has made no secret of the fact that he thinks the actress, who he worked with on both Firefly and Serenity, would make a good Wonder Woman. Net reports suggest that Whedon wants Baccarin for the role, while producer Joel Silver, who initially wanted Kim Basinger to don the Wonder Woman suit, is fighting for Jessica Alba.

What are your all's thoughts?

PS...Kim Bassinger??? I mean, she's still beautiful, but those days of her playing the role of a 20-30 something are over.

last i heard, Joss said he's consider Morena for the role, but he said he still didn't have anyone definate in mind. he said he wouldn't know until he was done with the script. he said the character isn't fully developed yet since he isn't done with the script, so he said he really couldn't say for sure. he said he would definately consider Morena, but wouldn't know if she was right for the role until he was done.

Basinger? Please...
Alba? Good, but same 'tude in all her work. Really
NOT the best actress.
Too bad they probably wouldn't consider SEAN YOUNG.
She'd be my pick.
Morena doesn't strike me as very "Amazonian".
Now, Jeniffer Connley would rock, but she's got
herself too damned skinny nowadays. Think "The Rocketeer". Remember when she had boobs?

I vote Alba.
I just can't see Morena kicking anyone's ass.

I doubt the authenticity of this.

Primarily because of the Kim Basinger blurb. Basinger is *52* years old. Heck Lynda Carter is only 2 years older.

There is no way Joel Siler or anyone in their right mind would even consider Basinger.

As for Alba, she's already in the Fantastic Four, I don't think you want to cast Wonder Woman somebody who's already part of another superhero/comic book franchise.

Authenticity aside...who do you think is best suited for the role? I think she could definitely pull it off, she's only 2 inches shorter than Lynda Carter, and high heels can do wonders into making any woman taller. I think she could do it. I'll have to think some more on who else I'd consider for the role. Alba...eh, perhaps. That is if she'd actually take some acting lessons. She's got some potential there, but I think Morena could be a good choice.

Morena would be cool. I can't really think of anyone better. Jessica Alba? Kim Basinger? Please! You may as well give me the role! (Oh, please, Joss. I'd be very good! Only kidding.)
But really, I can definetly see Morena in the whole wavy hair, flowing cape, high heels role. I just don't want people getting confused when Firefly: Revenge of the Sith airs it's pilot on television and people see her in the role of Inara. It'd be good publicity for the show, but still, she's Inara--first and foremost.

Wacky fun!

I thought Jessica Biel might make a good Wonder Woman, but yeah Morena could fit the bill, she has that who regal thing going on. And she looks the part too.

Alba- she can bring in the box office that is why they are thinking her- that and she is so damn pretty-even if as an actress she is- mheh...

Its too bad Gina is too 'old' to play WW ( she could play her now but the are looking for someone on the young side so the can believably do a trilogy), because she has the acting chops, the hotness and the presence to play her.

'Might have been on the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Sorry to bump this, but I *must* redeem myself.

#1. Wonder Woman should have been made 12 years ago
and she should have been SEAN YOUNG.

#2. Since JENNIFER CONNLEY has gone got herself all
emaciated, she's out too.

#3. MORENA BACCARIN is the only logical choice!
I thought an "unknown" would be best. I forgot that
to the Peanut Gallery Morena *is* an unknown.

MORENA BACCARIN IS WONDER WOMAN!!

It would be nice if they picked a Wonder Woman who isn't quite so, uh, white. She is supposed to be an Amazon princess.

Then again, DC Comics conveniently neglected the details of the mythology when they made Wonder Woman. After all, what kind of Amazon woman doesn't use a bow and hasn't cut off her right breast! Geez! No wonder I prefer Marvel comics.

I'm sure Morena could do it, providing she's up for the action sequences. I don't recall Inara doing any serious fighting, so it's hard for me to picture.

I just dont see Morena being cast as an ass-kicking super-hero. Shes definately got the pretties but not the feminine braun. Has anyone else thought about using Summer Glau or Gina Torres instead? Gina has the definitive amazonian appeal to her yet we all know Summer can perform some amazing fight scenes. That would be a tough pick.

Since Ive mentioned the other girls I might as well bring Jewel into this. Kaylee as WonderWoman is just a thought a cant fathom: it would destroy my perception of her everytime I watch the series. Dont get me wrong, I love Jewel's acting but she portrays Kaylee so well that Its hard for me to think of Jewel acting in any other way. Come to think of it, Im sure most of us feel the same way about all the girls from the series in general.

I don't think Inara did any major fighting either, except in Shindig where she tried to teach Mal to sword fight. thought Morena did well with that action sequence also in the action sequence in Serenity in the "temple". With a bit of trainging, I think she will make a great WonderWoman.

My husband is hoping for Salma Hayek though.
My hope is for Morena

Having met Morena in RL, I can tell you -- she's a bird: very slender and delicate. However, she's pretty tall and "plays" much larger on screen. That old saying about the camera adding ten pounds is quite true.

Don't forget that a cinematographer can do a lot of tricks with lighting and camera angles, too. If she got the role, I think she could be believable as WW. Who is, after all, a comic book character!

IMHO, Summer is just too small. She's much shorter than Morena. She certainly demonstrated her kickass chops in Serenity, though.

I totally agree that Gina would be awesome.

You need to get the Wonderfalls DVD set. Jewel plays a TOTALLY different character in that series (three episodes plus a teaser in a fourth) and absolutely nails it. Still, I don't see her as WW either.

Oh, and by the way, Aerin (who said that Morena is too white to play an Amazon woman): you do know that she's Brazilian, don't you? Hmmm... Brazil -- Amazon -- Brazil -- Amazon. That sorta rings a bell...

Personally, I don't know anyone who'd do better than Morena. I believe in the Tobey Maguire/Christopher Reeve theory of superhero casting. Find yourself someone who can actually ACT, and then train them to do the asskicking. It's much easier than trying to do it the other way around. And let's face it, Jessica Alba's acting talent is neatly contained in two places directly in front of her...

Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal, Fox!

I didn't mean that Morena is "too white" - just most of the other actresses including Linda Carter. I actually think Morena is more appropriate, since she has a slightly exotic look.

Morena's not quite what I imagine in a warrior woman, but Joss knows how to make slender females into ass-whooping machines. But I would prefer Gina.

I think that's old news. I've read recently that Whedon is only focusing on the script for Wonder Woman and has not even begun thinking about who will play the part.

As for Baccarin, as much as I want her to be Wonder Woman, isn't she a bit short for the role?

As hot as Jessica Alba is, she's not the greatest actress. I'd rather have an actress that can act than an actress that's only on the screen for her name.

Bassinger is way off too. I've always thought Catherine Zeta-Jones would make a great Wonder Woman...

I like Jessica Alba. I do. But WONDER WOMAN??? I cannot see it, not even remotely. She doesn't look at all like Wonder Woman in any way. I don't mean hair color or whatever which is easily changed, but when I see Jessica Alba, I pretty much think the opposite of "Amazon Warrior".

I could see Morena as her, though.

I meant fight training and the" costuming and heels" was my weak attempt to overcome her tinyness.

I agree that as an actress trained at Julliard she will be miles beyond what any of those other current young actresses can do.

The road to Hel is paved with good intentions

I'd personally love to see Morena Baccarin as Wonder Woman and think she'd be perfect. I just hope Joel Silver opens up to the "Casting an Unknown" that worked so well with Superman, and I hope will do just as well for Superman Returns

A lot of Joss fans would like to see Charisma Carpenter in the role too, but I'd much rather go with Morena. Although Charisma may look like the perfect WW, I think Morena is the better actress

If I had to go with a popular name movie actress, I suspect Jessica Biel would get the role

Not necessarily true. James Marsden has played Cyclops in all three X Men movies, and will be not only appearing in the third movie of that franchise this year, but also as Richard White in Superman Returns

Also, although The Punisher wasn't exactly a "Superhero flick", it was based on a marvel comic and starred Ben Foster as a supproting cast member - he's also playing Angel in the X Men 3

Sorry to be the one to have to say this , but Morena Baccarin would fit perfectly as Wonder Woman.

If you ignore the television series of the 70s called Wonder Woman, and just focus on the 1940s, 50s,and 70s comic book versions of her, you would find out that Morena Baccarin has the look of what they were trying to create back in the 40s.

Ignore the comic books of the 60s because the feminists got all annoyed about the fact that Wonder Woman dressed so sexists, so the writers had her costume changed into a white pants suit set, which annoyed all the men fans, but after the 60s, they changed her costume back to normal.

When I 1st saw Firefly, the 1st thought that hit my mind when I saw Inara, was how much she looked like the 40s and the 70s version of WW. Later when I saw her In Serenity, I was certain that if anyone could be Wonder Woman...this woman was it, so I hope they use her.

Just a thought.

It's completely dependent on how well "Superman Returns" does at the box office. If it's a smash then the suits at Warner will decide that it's ok to use an unknown. If it tanks or doesn't do as well as expected they will decide the reason is lack of "star power" and insist on an A list actress for the role.

Now who *that* would be is a good question, most young A-listers seem to be the blonde teeny rocker type. Kate Beckinsale is the only gal I can think of with any name recognition but even that is pushing it.

I think Morena is an excellent choice. She's got the body to play the part, but also Wonder Woman, mythology-wise wasn't she supposed to be related to the Greek Goddesses? Wasn't she the goddess Diana or something like that? I'm fuzzy on all that DC mumbo-jumbo. But if that's true, I think Morena's got the "Greek" look goin' on.

Halley Berrie played Storm in X-men. She lived up to that cartoon character very well, then she played Catwoman.

Halley did a great job as Catwoman. The movie failed not because of her, but because of the script/story, and that stupid suit she wore, but Halley herself did great.

This reminds me of that dreadful Supergirl movie that they brought out back in 1984. They found the right girl to play Supergirl. The suit that she wore was perfect, and it looked good on her...She WAS Supergirl, but the plot! OMG!!!! The movie was ruined because the plot was beyond stupid, but the woman who played Supergirl was perfect. The same goes for Halley Berry in Catwoman.

I hope to God Joss doesnt screw this Wonder Woman up. The good point to all of this is that Joss seems to like writing about women characters ( about damned time!) and it appears that his characters are always warrior women in one way or another, which is good, but it always seems that the women he picks are always young, and looking likes they need to eat something called food...Buffy, River etc. Way too skinny.

Joss, if you are reading this, please, oh pleeezzzeess don't screw up Wonder Woman...if you do, I might have to hunt you down and eat cornflakes out of your skull.

Strangely enough I thought Halley Berrie was a horrible Storm. She doesn't project even a fraction of the strength and toughness the sometimes leader of the X-men is supposed to have. On the other hand if Gina Torres had the role, she would have given Storm some gravitas, and some stone cold ass-kicking foxy believability!
