my car broke down today and it would cost more to fix it than the gorram thing is worth. Don't have the funds to replace the wheels. Not sure what I'm gonna do for transport.

Man, I feel ya. I've been without wheels since last march (the car wasn't mine, and one accident got it taken from me).

Likely the car I'm going to be buying for myself soon will be a rutting peice of gos se, but since it'll be my first car (and keeping it running will be a labor of love) I'll probably call it Serenity.

Oh! That stinks.
Did you check around about used parts and such? I own an old Toyota, bless her stubborn heart, and we've been told before "She's not worth fixin'" but I usually find a way to keep her going for less than half what the mechanic says it will cost.

I also have a "Serenity". Mine is a 1991 GMC Jimmy. She works, but the emergency brake release snapped off in my hand (you can still work it if you reach under the dash and try not to pinch your fingers), the windshield wiper fluid broke last Summer, and recently the defroster stopped working.

But she is still flying....but we are on the raggedy edge.

I'm definitely a Toyota fan. My Camry'll stay on the road forever, if I find a mechanic even half-awake for occasional tune-ups. I'm wanting to stretch it out to a 14-15 year total run. KF

Lord, I'm walking your way. Let me in, for my feet are sore, my clothes are ragged.
Look in my eyes, Lord, and my sins will play out on them as on a screen. Read them all.
Forgive what you can and send me on my path. I will walk on until you bid me rest.

My old Jeep Wrangler kicked the bucket in November. Are you in a largeish city at all? We joined a car share program (Philly CarShare) and love it. Car when we need it but don't have to worry parking or repairs. Perfect for folks like us, who get to work by other means and only need a car every once in a while, for errands, groceries, or transporting the hounds.

GELASSENHEIT

I suggest a nice scooter. Low maintenance, great gas mileage, and the ambiance is soooo sweet.(except for the occasional garbage truck ahead of you on the road)

oh, and of course winter sucks. but hey, nice idea?

Gelassenheit means Serenity

I have a 1994 Toyota 4Runner (not named Serenity; it's Blackwolf II) and I am getting close to that 200,000 mile mark. They have an actual 200k mile CLUB somewhere, so many folks have Toyotas that are ancient and still on the road!

Mine, unfortunately, did not like today's -45F weather and has developed a rather alarming noise in the right wheel. Am praying it is just snow or ice in the brake because I have to be at work before the buses run here, and it's too cold to walk!

Could hook up the dog team I suppose...but where would I park them? Hmmm.

I wonder if I put "Go-se" on a personlaized plate I'd get in trouble...

"Do not go gentle into that good night....
Rage, rage against the dying of the light. . .

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night. . ."
