I was trying to find out what the DVD sales totals are as of this weekend, anyone have any links? I found one;

http://homevideo.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ&sdn=homevide
o&zu=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.imdb.com%2FCharts%2Fvideolast

but this mainly concerns rental grosses (which is at $6million+ right now), I'd like to know what that gross is from actual sales...

Hey all, I couldn't find the DVD sales anywhere, but here's what I have otherwise:

Rentals: 6,230,000 (from IMDB.com)
US Box Office: 25,514,517 (from boxofficemojo.com)
Overseas: 13,314,144 (from boxofficemojo.com)

that's $45,058,661

According to boxofficemojo, it cost $39 million to make the movie. I'm not sure about DVD sales, but the above seems to put us in the black! (barring the ad campaign costs)

Actually, only a portion of that goes to Universal. I believe, from what people have said, they get around half the box office gross. I'm not sure about rentals. I imagine it's even less.

That said, it sounds like the movie will eventually manage to make a profit. Just not a large one.

*sigh* thanks for that headsup. I've done what I could (bought Firefly and Serenity on DVD) and I'm trying to get others hooked, but right now I don't know what more we can do. I want more Firefly, but the prospects seem grim...

I do wish I knew DVD Sales... just to know, ya know? Unfortunately, that information seems to be at an industry only level, which is rediculous...

GOODNIGHTKISS--

Just wanted to say that I LOVE your whatever-you-call-it on the bottom of your posts. (Signature? Tag line? ??--I'm not necessarily up on the jargon). It's the best I've seen. Very, very shiny!!

MAL: We're still flying.
SIMON: That's not much.
MAL: It's enough.

Just wondering where you heard that from?

And even if the the DVD sales are good, I don't think they're going to be $35 million good, which is what would be needed to compensate the $45 million that movie has already made.

Before the BDM came out, Universal said that if it made $80 million they'd greenlight a sequel, no question. They've since backed away from that figure and now I think what we need to do is simply convince them that there's a market out there for the 'verse.

And there's nothing more convincing than cash from good DVD sales & rentals; but I don't think $80 million is necessary anymore. Just whatever number will impress upon the suits the necessity of more Serenity.

LOL. Thank you MCALLEN! I love photoshop. :)

As for the magic number, anyone have industry connections that can get us how much Serenity has earned in DVD sales?
