This weekend we are going to watch Serenity one last time. The Captain’s theater in Santa Ana is the only theater in the country to show Serenity continuously since opening day.

We are going to meet at Pat and Oscar’s beforehand for fun and food (thanks for the address Cathy). We’ll be there at 6 PM. P&O is very casual, and you won’t have to order food to show up and hang out (but the food is really good). We will most likely park at the theater and walk to the restaurant. We’ll leave the restaurant a little after 8 and walk back to the theater for the 9 PM showing. This is the only time it’s showing each day.

The restaurant and theater info has been added to the calendar, but both addresses are included below. Those who eat at the restaurant please leave a little room. It would be nice for each of us to buy something from the concession stand at the theater. They are holding the movie just for our group (thanks go to Dawn for this), and we can say thank you this way.

I was under the impression they were stopping showings of the BDM at that theater this thursday. I was planning on going tonight and thursday. I'd LOVE to go to any shindig available. Great plan, assuming I'm wrong (which is quite possible).

They were originally going to stop, but one of our group members called them and asked if they would extend it. They agreed since we told them at least 20 of us were planning to be there on the 4th.

Don't let that stop you from going during the week though. Every little bit will help say thank you to the theater and manager for playing the movie for so long.

If you haven't already, join our Yahoo group for info and updates on the shindig this week. And for all the upcoming shindigs in the future.

I joined, and I'll definately be there. I'm gonna try to go as often as possible. I only saw it once on the big screen, so I'm more than a little excited about going back after now having seen the whole series.

By the way, I joined there as "June." It's an old nickname still attatched to my yahoo account from some time ago, but it works.

This perplexes me, because we were told by someone down there on the Browncoats boards recently that he likely was going to extend it at least through Feb 9 anyway.

Meanwhile, be sure to get pictures and post them to

which is part of Can't Stop The Serenity, where I've been tracking continuing Serenity showings, and shortly will be announcing the specifics needed for people to go out and organize charity benefit screenings this year.

You're probably speaking with the same person who helped set up the whole shindig. I'm pretty sure it is playing until the 9th since they run movies from Friday-Thursday. We just picked the 4th for our last big viewing of the movie as a group.

Well, what I meant was the whole "we got him to extend it" thing smells a little off to me, since earlier reports from someone who talked to the theater said that an extension through the 9th was pretty much a given anyway.

Jumping in here--

I was the one who posted about the extension to 2/2 with likely extension to 2/9 followed by definite extension to 2/9 info. I am indeed a member of the SoCal Browncoats. The reason I even called the guy at the theater was to see about how long the run was going to be as we wanted to see about meeting up for a last viewing. Once he heard the soonest we could do it was 2/4, he said he'd go to 2/9 to make sure we could do our thing. Hope that helps.

P.S. I think adult admission is actually $7 (according to the recording, which conflicts with some web pages, but there you go).

P.P.S. [added Feb 1] The theater was closed Monday, 1/31. I called and they said there was a staffing problem, and Thursday was touch and go, but the weekend was OK. Sooooo, if you're thinking of heading up, please call ahead to the direct box office line at (714) 547-6145 to confirm the showing.

Ok, now here's my other question: Any idea why I keep running into a one-week gap in the data for Serenity at this theater, somewhere in December? Do I just keep getting crappy data from some sources, or was there an actual gap somewhere? Maybe so they could switch from first-run to second-run (since venues get a better deal in second-run)?

(Note: I don't ask to try to damage Santa Ana's leader-of-the-pack reputation as far as showing the movie, heh. Even if there WERE a one-week gap in there somewhere, you'd still beating us up here in Portland anyway.)

I don't know. I'll try to get it out of Mr. Blood when I talk to him next. It seems like there's been at least a couple of one day gaps due to staffing glitches, but I'll see what I can find out about a week gap.

Save 2 more seats at the Shindig!
---------------------------------------------

Two recent recruits here.

We just watched all the Fire Fly episodes for the first time last week. We were going to watch the Serenity movie on DVD for the First time tonight ... but I found THIS place and found out about the BDShindig on Saturday. Of course, what better way to see the BDM for the fist time than on the big screen.

That being said, we will be at the Buster Pub at 6pm in Coats of Brown (literally) and hope to meet up with you folks.

I cant think of a better way to watch the movie than surrounded by a troop of Brown Coats.

Over and out,

~Black

And FYI, on the subject of Santa Ana and Portland, it's down to Santa Ana. Laurelhurst Theater here in Portland has not extended it yet another week, and it's final show is Friday, February 2.

Great! So nice to hear of people finding Firefly and Serenity even now. (did you join the yahoo group?)

We'll definitely see you there.

And an update for everyone. While the theater and restaurant are close on the map, it seems like it will be a hassle to actually walk. So we'll most likely drive to eat, and then drive over to the theater.

So are we going to recognize you by the eypatch, the wooden leg, the parrot, the "arrrrggg", or a combination of any/all the above?

There's plenty more happening in SoCal. We plan monthly shindigs throughout the region on the Yahoo group.

I think the Captain's theater is a second run theater. They were showing it before the gap and after the gap. I wonder if the gap was a computer problem with getting the data to Fandango or a scheduled vacation for Christmas.

Weeks start on a Friday.

11th week of Serenity:AK AZ CA IA ID IL IN KY MI MN MT NE NY OR TN TX UT VA WA
CA 95610 Citrus Heights  Fandango United Artists Sunrise Mall 4
CA 94117 San Francisco The Red Vic Theatre December 14 & 15
CA 92701 Santa Ana Captain's Family Theatres A Mainplace 6

12th week of Serenity:AK AZ CA ID MN OR TX UT VA WA
CA 92701 Santa Ana Captain's Family Theatres A Mainplace 6

13th week of Serenity: ID MN OR UT **Over 84 days!**

This is the week of December 23 to December 29.
Maybe the Captain's computer got hit with an emp? Or could the theater have been closed for a Christmas Vacation? Serenity was not on imdb.com/fandango at Captain's Family Theatres A Mainplace 6 during this week. I was only checking imdb.com at that time.

14th week of Serenity: CA! MN NC! OR! UT VA Canada 91 days+

CA 92701 Santa Ana Captain's Family Theatres A Mainplace 6 The Captain brought Serenity back!

This is great news: I had no idea our BDM was still playing on the big screen. Count me and at least one other person (of whom I helped achieved browncoat status) in.

I'll be in my bunk.

Roll call:
----------

Anyone closer to the theatre than this noobie brown coat? We are about 7 miles out.

Which raises an interesting point - are most the SoCal Browncoats up in the L.A.?

If so... ...I am manning a lonely OC Outpost and am in need of reinforcements.

Be sure to check on this theater when you are in the area, maybe Serenity will still be showing.

It is playing every day at least until Feb. 9th. If crowds keep coming...

Most of those attending this weekend might be from LA. But there are definitely more Browncoats in the OC. In fact, the lady responsible for letting us know about the theater, and getting the movie extended, is from the area. I know there will also be a few coming from the IE.

Ask around at the screening shindig this weekend and see how many locals you can find.
