For those who have not heard, the Nielsen ratings have reached an agreement to factor programs that are recorded on TIVO into the ratings.

What this means is that even if you own the DVD set of you favorite show, you should record it on TIVO to boost the ratings.

Am I correct in assuming that this applies only to the TIVO brand and not to similar recording mechanisms like cable DVR?

yea, i have cable dvr too, if someone knows, share with us so i can set my dvr to record the shows when they come back on sci fi

I'm not sure about this. I've read it both ways. One said that TIVO was going to pick an additional 20,000 random users.

I do think that "watching" it will affect the viewership ratings if you are one.

Regardless of the ratings, TIVO does publish their top recordings list and it does get reported by newspapers.
