Yes, yes, yes. I'm another new recruit. I've fallen in love with this after my dad let me watch his copy of Serenity that I bought him for Christmas. It is all his fault and I place the blame firmly on his shoulders. SO, since I borrowed Serenity my mother had given him Firefly and I borrowed that as well.

Needless to say, I was hopelessly hooked within the first episode.

The first night, Hubby walked in and asked what stupid show I'm watching now. It had previously been Christian Bale and I'm known for showing up with some strange B-movies of my hotti-of-the-month. The second night, he asked the same thing, but sat down and watched it with me. The third night, he sat down first THEN asked when I was going to put in Firefly. So I wound up getting him hooked too. (we're both big Farscape fans, and this is soooo close)

Hubby's birthday was Jan 18th, so my dad took pity on us and gave him Firefly. I went out and spent money I shouldn't have and bought Serenity.

I put the kids in bed just a few minutes earlier just so I can pop in two episodes a night. Sometimes it goes down to one if I listen to the commentary and I'm rewinding just to hear dialog AND commentary. I dream about it, I feel this aching hole that I didn't see Serenity in the theater (soon to be remedied - thanks Ben and the bryn mawr theater!). I find myself hearing appropriate quotes from the show in my head while I'm doing things. Perhaps River has set up shop somewhere in my brainpan.

I NEED SOMETHING ELSE!!!!

I've found a few slash sites and saw some of the fanfic on here. But what I'm looking for is canon stuff. What's this I hear about a RPG and a comic? Can anyone help? Any release dates on these supposed novels coming?

Honey, don't we all.

Here are a few things to keep you going:

Read the shooting scripts for a few details you may have missed or that may have been cut/changed in the final version.

Welcome to the ranks!

Until we hear about a movie sequel or new series, I'm afraid that you have to learn to live with the pain. I've just started re-watching the DVD set for the jillionth time, and every single time I watch an episode I remember how it was when they cancelled the show.

I don't know much about your tastes (other than you like the 'verse and Farscape), so I don't know for sure what your favorite part about the show is. If you like the dialogue/characterizations in Firefly, you might like the Buffy and Angel stuff - it's all Joss, and it's all good.

Or, going a bit further out on a limb, maybe try Wonderfalls. It's not sci-fi, but it's funny, clever, sweet, and psycho. And cancelled almost before the pilot was completely broadcast, if you like that underdog-masochist angle. There's even a connection to the Jossiverse in that Tim Minear worked on it.

Try my 5-minute music video. It'll repeat itself endlessly for hours if you let it.

Im sorry to say there is not a whole lot of anything else. You can read episodes people make up, watch the series over and oer till you have them all darn near memerized (one of my choices), watch the movie again and agian and look for things you missed the first time (dialouge, people, etc...), and of course post. Random posts about what if scenarios, blowing off some steam, telling about your favorite part of Firefly. As you can tell by loging on to FFF.net this is our choice for sure. Trust me it helps relive some of the yearning for more.

You know the saying "Patience is a virtue." That's a crock used for control. The truth is nobody is that patient so we use each other to hold on. To wait for our angels to fly overhead and end our war.

Hope this helps. Just remember we are all here for each other, and especially the newfound friends.

Sad to say, there are no cons in my area. At least not until November. Stupid city. And the cash flow is going into taking the kids to Disney this year, so no traveling to any other cons that need planes and/or hotel rooms. I'm looking into splitting some with my mom, so if anyone has any news on good sci-fi cons in and around Philly/New York/New Jersey areas let me know.

I've been watching at least an episode a day. I think soon I'll have the whole darn thing memorized in a few more weeks or so. Then I'll need to go buy Hubby a new set of DVDs as I will have worn his set out.

I shall have to check over at the nearby comic store and see if they have the comics and the role play book. I GOTTA do it sometime this week so I can spread the word about that showing of Serenity in Bryn Mawr. (doin my part in spreading the signal)

Was never much into Buffy or Angel. I've been trying to catch a few snippets just to see if they're the episodes with our favorite BDstars being bad guys. So yeah, am forcing myself to watch those Whedon creations. Vampires just never really interested me.

Well said, wasn't that well said?

Chindi is right, you've got us, we aren't much when compared to having the crew of Serenity, but if you stick around I think you'll find that we are ... something. I'm not sure what, but it helps. Sort of like:
"They're sharing a drink they call loneliness, but it's better than drinking alone."
But less depressing.

I get tired of saying this, but it needs to be said: The only way to get more is by DVD sales, and the only way to get enough DVD sales is to convert people, spread the word. The only way to make sure that they don't stop the signal is if someone transmits.

I don't bring this up very often, because I don't want to sound like I'm bragging, but I've been a Firefly fan since the first episode that was aired (which was of course the second episode) and I remember three years of waiting, much of it without knowing if we would ever get more.

Even though I had no reason for it I had faith that there would be more, faith that was more or less insane (like Joss said, failed tv shows don't get made into movies.) That faith paid off.

This time around we have something we can do, we know that if the DVD sales are enough there will be at least two hours more, but it's not as if we can buy all the DVDs ourselves (and no one should try) and it is hardly a sure thing we'll get what we need.

I know this doesn't really help, but it's all I can really offer, one bit of advice:
Have faith.

-

Also, you're here, and that means you're among family. I've tried to think of another way to say this because I don't like repeating myself so much, but I can't:

Welcome home.

Ok, am I truly addicted if I've done these?

1) Watch the series IN ORDER as they are formated in the DVD box set.

2) Watch ALL the Bonus material on DVD box set

3) Repeat step 1 but this time with all the commentary tracks ON.

4) Get Extended Gag reel from Firefly on a site that downloads video... I like Limewire. Type in "Firefly gag" in search field

---1, 2, 3, 4 Since Christmas, at least 4 times.

7) Watch the BDM (thats what us Browncoats call the Serenity movie... It means BIG DAMN MOVIE. Derived from the line by Zoe in the episode "Safe"... "Big Damn Heroes, Sir!")

8) Watch all Bonus material on the BDM DVD

9) Repeat step 7 But this time with Joss Whedons commentary track on

---7, 8, 9 At least three times in the past three weeks.

16) Buy a BLUE SUN shirt on ebay and wear it while rocking back and forth in the dark, in the fetal postion, thumb in your mouth, wondering how this show was not the slamdunk hit of the decade.

17) Repeat step 16

18) Repeat step 16

Will this one work if I immerse myself into costuming? Like picking up a pattern for a Zoe prairie coat and sewing it myself? Trying to find somewhere there are necklaces at least close to what's in the series? Am hoping to pick up a bit of swag in the next few weeks....

Hubby just quit smoking. Now I think I FINALLY know what he's been going through.

You had me up until step 16. Then it got a little weird.

If you can't find the RPG or the comics at your store, then I know for a fact that Amazon carries them. Look for the Serenity TPB (Trade Paperback), it should be listed as Serenity(Paperback) by Joss and Brett Matthews. It's the collection of the entire comic series, so you don't have to hunt down individual issues if you aren't so inclined.

Also, you can always peruse the fanfic section of this very site, the Blue Sun Room. There's some darn fine stuff in there, to be sure. It's not official, but there are some folks who have put a lot of effort into making their own continuity. Also, the Strawberry Awards for fanfic, fanvideo and the like are coming up, so you can check that out to get a sampling of what's considered the cream of the crop.

Just remember, they can't stop the signal.

Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal, Fox!

Ah, we have a fine Browncoat who has just exactly that! You need to go to Jetflair's site, she has a replica of Zoe's necklace and shiny dogtags (with Mmmm Mal on them!) and oh, she just has lots of pretties! Here is the link to her wonders:

http://www.serenityverse.com/shop/

Hope that works. The only other bit of advice I'd recommend other than the master list you have already done ( and done and done, lol, cuz we all do) is that you come here often and talk with all of us. It helps me. When I get blue I have my fellow Browncoats to encourage me to hang in there.

We are mighty and we will get our sequel or better yet another season or 10 of the show!

Kevar,
It's a big 'verse out here on the rim, but you're not alone. I live in southwest Montana on a ranch. Nearest town (any ole wide spot in the road) is 20 miles. I'm a new recruit Browncoat, getting my fixes with everything Serenity/Firefly I can find. Work through the pain by spreading the word. Three new recruits so far. Not too bad when you consider that there are far more cows than people out here (I felt right at home with the bovines in Shindig).

Welcome, Kaele!

I'm afraid all the beautiful things have already been said. So, essentially, I have nothing to reach out to you with; except, perhaps, to say that I wish to reach out to you. I know, that's not much.

What ELSE could I offer you? Well, at this point, I'm not even convinced there really is much ELSE than FireFly/Serenity. So I fear I come up empty there, too.

It sorta goes down-hill from here.

Truth be told, I'm not even sure I want to you to have something ELSE. I cannot, in good conscience, tell you to go see Batman or something, or ninja-turtles, or what not.

This is the 'Verse. It draws you. Call it "spiritual gravity", call it "Love," give it a name that best pleases you, or none at all. But understand, foremost, that the pain you feel, I daresay, is actually a good thing. You've been exposed to something wonderful; something normally not visibly around you. And now it's gone; and now you're hurtin'.

But I say: learn to Love what you miss. Learn to Love that you miss it! Revel at what you cherish; for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

It kinda goes a bit up-hill now.

Remember Contact? You feel so lost, so cut off, so alone, only you're not. See, in all our searching, the only thing we've found that makes the emptiness bearable is each other.

We're all in this boat together. And we ain't going anywhere; and if we are, you get to go along for the ride. Anyway, you're on our crew. Why're we still talkin' about this?

Kevar,
Maybe it's not such a big 'verse, after all. Our ranch is southwest of Butte, not too far from Divide. Since this area gets hunted pretty heavily, you probably were out here.
Maybe we have a potential Serenity Underground amongst folks in Butte or who are from Butte. Butte-ites aren't your general run-of-the-mill types. Serenity ought to be right up their alley.

Do yourself a HUGE favor and get the Trade Paperback of "Those Left Behind". It takes place between Objects in Space and Serenity, and answers a lot fo questions, like what the hell hapenned to the Hands of Blue. Normally spin-off comics are terrible, but since Whedon (a comic veteran) had full control on making it, and wrote a good portion of it, it turned out absolutely amazing.
