Sorry from me too, Ben. As much as I was looking forward to the snow it had to come along at the worst possible time and ruin our fun. I hope you still get a turnout, and if in the future you ever host another Serenity shindig, you can count me in!

Interesting note on the logo: There are two different logos used for Blue Sun, each with a different Chinese character used for "Blue." My Chinese wife said that the logo on that shirt actually says "Green Sun" but according to another thread at http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=7793 that character apparently can have different meanings. According to the same thread both versions were official.

Damnit, man, I couldn't make it for EITHER screening. I specificaly requested Friday and Saturday off, but I guess it was too important for my supervisors to go out and drink then to give me the ONLY weekend days I've ever requested off.

I'm going to leave a letter of protest in the office the day before I take my two weeks off so they can stew over me possibly not comming back. For the record, the two weeks off is NOT personal time, and I will not be getting paid for it. It is for a surgery and I'll likely be bed ridden for a good portion of it, and yet this qualifies as "personal time" to deny me one of the few things I may have actually found enjoyment in.

Sorry if I'm complaining a lot, but this is really shitty of them to do. I'm sorry I didn't make the movie, I swear to you I would have come, even with the freggin snow.

Last night was a thoroughly shiny time! The Grog *was* a mite loud (apologies to them as had their names or screen names mangled or plum forgotten by yours truly!).

Ben's wee trivia contest before the screening was a good time, and partly made up for having to miss tonight's screening. Did anyone make it? Looking a little like a cool night on St. Alban's out there. I hope everyone is safe (by which I do *not* mean abducted by hill people!).

Again, the maddest of props to Ben. Hope to see you all at the next cine-'dig.

a quick note just to say saturday night's screening was more intimate, but impressive! i'll be posting photos on can't stop the serenity dot com!

we had 53 tonight! in the blizzard! so not the turnout i had hoped for originally (think we could have beat 150!), BUT he biggest show OF THE SATURDAY TOTAL!

Usually we have about 400-550 total for the two movies at 7. Tonight, with snow, we had about 40.

Serenity beat both movies at midnight!

So pretty damn shiny.

You guys rock.

Sorry some of you couldn't make it out - and of course i absolutely understand. I hope everyone got home safe tonight.

The theater owners have been impressed for sure, so i'm looking forward to having another booking in the future...

The only question is: should it be soon? Or should we let it lay fallow?

Your thoughts!

Good night everyone - I'm off to bed! But I have to say these two screenings are my favorite Firefly memory yet... even beating opening night in NYC with a sold out house.

Thanks for rocking browncoats.

Good night!

Faster. Faster would be better!

I'm thinking of sending off my cash that I would have spent at the movie with a nice little note saying: please show this again when there isn't any snow. I promise to help with e-mailings and such again if you promise to do it again soon. Heck, I'll even put up posters around Chester County.

Hubby left me alone last night as I was unbearable. I had to pop in Serenity all by my wee lonesome and it still didn't help.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do this again soon.

I suggest a Friday/Saturday in Spring. It would be nice to have a month notice if at all possible, so that flans can plan their calendar, and we can get the word out to media. What are the chances for a pre-screening get-together in the theater's cafe for the Friday night? It would be a lot better for conversation.

I think late April/early-mid May would be the best to aim for. PA has had some weird weather in April in years past, so I think it would be best to wait for a little bit.

Hopefully, I'll be able to make it if/when there is a next one. Too many things went awry this weekend that didn't allow me to make the trip down.

I'm glad to hear that everyone had a good time that was able to make it! It sounds like it was a lot of fun. :D

I recall a large snowstorm at the end of April, quite a number of years ago. Mid May would be nice - too late for snow and too early for much risk of heat-wave related Brownouts. Earthquakes are still a possibility, although I find nothing on the Cortex about seismic activity centered on Lancaster Avenue. Fortunately, Bryn Mawr is too far inland for any concern about tsunamis. Sadly we can't rule out tornados. Or asteroids.

I'd say the sooner the better. A Serenity weekend in early/mid spring would be great. And I'm very glad the theater owners were happy with the turnout. I, for one, am going to follow the example of several others in this thread and send a note and the money I would have spent on the ticket. It's the least I can do to support all the planning and hard work that went into the screenings. Hopefully I'll meet some of you great folks next time.

Unless those asteroids turn into a problem.

About 4 years ago, we had a very minor earthquake (Scranton, PA). I remember waking up because my bed shook a bit. I didn't think anything of it, until the local news said something about it.

According to my mother, winter isn't over until May. ;)

MALNOURISHED

I went to last night's screening, and it was fantastic. Four of us made the drive up from MD, and we arrived just in time for the party at the cafe. There were about 12-15 of us there for the pre-party, which was nice because we had a chance to talk to everyone. The trivia game was fun (even with Ben's trick questions ), and everyone got a prize. I scored a sweet Blue Sun t-shirt. I'm sure that it was amazing to see the BDM on Friday with over 100 in attendance, but our little screening was fun too. It was a good mix of browncoats, casual fans, and newbies/local college kids.

Count us (plus a few more College Parkers) in for the next screenings, whenever they are. I think waiting for spring is a good idea, since my friends will have me committed if I drive through another blizzard to see Serenity. With enough advance warning and decent weather I think we will crush your midnight-screening record. I look forward to meeting Kaele and all of you who couldn't make it this time.

Ben, you did an amazing job. Thank you for putting all of this together. It was great meeting some other browncoats, and I hope to see you guys at future screenings/shindigs.

I agree, mid to late April or early May, no ghosties or ghoulies or wee little beasties or things that go bump in the night could keep me away. And with more notice, we'll advertise the heck out of it!

*curses living in Missouri*

I am SO amazed at you guys. Here one guy -- many kudos to you, Ben -- set up a simple midnight screening, and the rest of you all made it newsworthy! You know, the more I hear about how organized and determined and just plain shiny the Browncoats are, the prouder I am to call myself one.

You guys rock.

Now...if we can only get we Missouri-ish Browncoats to pull off something similar....

Hey Gutterball, there's a fair number of Browncoats in Lawrence if you're on the KC side of Missouri. You might try getting something together from both sides of the state line. Or you could just do like I did, move to Philly!

BTW, I'll join the chorus of thanks to Ben. I didn't make it Saturday, but Friday was a blast. Saturday wasn't entirely wasted though. Spent the evening watching the DVDs with my girlfriend, a Firefly newb.

Actually, I'm down on the raggedy south-western edge of Missouri, a good 3 hours from KC and further still from Lawrence, but I was told -- much to my pleasure -- that I counted as a KC Browncoat. Woo-hoo!

And I would drive to KC for a midnight showing if we could get Serenity back in theaters up there. That would be too sweet!

And I'll seriously consider moving to Philly. You know, just in case. 'Course, it's not exactly plan A....

NARPIN

Hey there. I am new to this here board. I was at the Saturday night screening at the Bryn Mawr last night and heard about this message board there. I know I met Ben and MALNOURISHED, but I'm not sure who else as I didn't get anyone else's screen names.

I was the tall guy in the black leather jacket. I was there with my ex-girlfriend who had never seen the movie or a single episode of the series before, and she loved it. She won a pin that said "Registered Companion" and pinned it to her sweater unaware of what a Registered Companion was! When I told her what it meant she quickly took the pin off and put it in her purse!

A good time all around. It's good to see so many loyal Whedonites in our area. And I was very impressed that Malnourished and friends drove from Maryland for it! My only regret is that I missed Friday night. It sounds like it was a much bigger crowd and I would have loved to have met more local Whedon fans (my friends refuse to watch any of his shows -- I can't seem to convert them no matter how hard I try).

I'm glad to hear you got such a good turnout on Saturday night (all things considered). I had planned on bringing the whole troupe on Saturday, but we decided against it with the snow. I am SO glad I went Friday night!

It would be nice to see the flick again on the big screen. I'll be out east every once in a while, at least until my house sells (anyone interested in a rancher in Pottstown?) - so I can plan the next trip around another screening (maybe April-ish?).

Many, many, many thanks for getting this all together. It was indeed worth it.

That's pretty funny. After she watches Firefly, maybe she'll wear that button with pride. There are definitely worse things in the 'verse than being a Guild member. :)

Long time listener...

Me and my favorite moviegoing partner had heard about the pending snow, and wisely, we opted for Friday night. I must say, it never does get old seeing that beautiful ship on a bigger screen than I can fit in my house. I was also tempted to get out Saturday, but the snow is an archenemy of mine. Bad Times.

As to a future screening, I would go, I would gladly put out the word, and I would gladly demand that my Baltimore crew come stay for the weekend so that we may add to the droves. Name the day, and I'll plan ahead accordingly. And I know about the outside food and drink policy, but I would even make some homemade oaty bars for the outisde of the theatre. Now in chocolate!

Ben is Shiny.

hey there folks:

is this thread dead? we shall see...

well the theater owners are very happy... 105 for firday was great and they know it would have been 150 for Sat. if it wasn't for the blizzard.

we will DEFINITELY be booking Serenity again for a midnight show... but i'm not sure when.

the two likely possibilities seem this spring before the colleges get out, so late april or early may...

however, if we don't do that we might *also* do next fall when the colleges get back... which would put it right around september - the one year anniversary of Serenity's release!

i will be sure to post the news here when we have a date, and you guys can always check our website at: www.brynmawrfilm.org

had a great time both nights and all my firefly virgins who came loved it. several didn't make it cuase of the snow, so they'll just have to come out next time.

thanks again guys - i'll keep you posted - but Serenity hasn't stopped flying on our screens yet for sure!

-Ben
