I just got mine in the mail from ezydvd.com; with a nice shiny tin and everything. Oh, big bonus: A cover that actually looks good. I've gotten through a couple of the extras, most notably "A Filmmaker's journey," a really worthwhile and funny doc about scripting, readings and filming. It has some good insight about the fight choreography, hijinx on the set, the cast's experiences and of course, Nathan being Nathan.

"I think we need a new Joss."

That was just one twenty minute documentary added to the first disc. I can't wait for the second one. This is so worth it for any fan.

I received mine. It is really shiny!
I agree, the tin is cool.

The extras are great. Now if they would just come out with an ultimate US version...

I received mine today (the slipcover edition, not the tin case edition). In the main, I have one reaction, based mainly on A Film-maker's Journey.

I don't believe for a moment that they produced these extras with only the international market in mind.

The very existence of the rather lengthy Journey featurette suggests to me that the original plan was, in fact, to "double dip" in the States, and at some point release a second edition later.

Whether or not they still think that's a viable idea is anyone's guess. But I think it's pretty likely, given Journey especially, that it was the original plan.

Has anybody else noticed with this that the voices of the characters (Most Notably Kaylee and Zoe, but they all sound differant.) are much higher pitched then the voices we heard on the DVD's?

Yes, that's because it's a PAL telecine transfer, which speeds up the film by 4% and (unless special digital processing is used) raises the audio pitch by the same amount.

An NTSC transfer, by contrast, changes the film speed (and audio pitch) by an undetectable 0.1%. The downside with NTSC is that some of the video frames are combinations of two film frames or, for progressive scan, two identical frames are shown in a row several times a second -- which is only a problem for designers of playback equipment.

One day, when all video is digital, these artifacts will not occur.

I don't disagree on any particular point.

By the way, there are already a couple of other threads about the Aussie DVD that have fallen off the top page. Some of these issues were discussed in those too.

Anyhow, I'm glad to see that the shipments from down under are continuing to show up, up over.
