Just a quick question..Was it ever written or mentioned just how long the war lasted..I know Mal in the BDM mentioned his first tour so that means at least two tours (how ever long a tour is in the 'verse)..Any body?

Well, I have no official sources for you, but there is an extremely well researched Firefly timeline floating about on the web (I don't have the address, I'm afraid, because I simply saved the whole thing to one word document to save time; I use it as fanfic reference material and I find it helps to have all of my stuff in one spot), that says that the war ran about 5 to 5 1/2 years. The author has cited everything he uses, and his logic is sound when he can't get an actual concrete date.

I'll do some snooping about and see if I can find the website for you.

Well, the timeline indicates that Mal joined pretty shortly after the war started. However, that isn't based on much beyond the author's theorizing. Don't have the visual companion, maybe someone else here can shed some official light?

The Visual Companion also mentions Shadow was destroyed? Anybody know anything else about that? It makes sense, Mal had no place to go back to, but it's not like he would have fit in anymore anyhow...
