Hovercraft Chase Scenes...Serenity vs. The Island

So I'm watching The Island today for the first time and there is a scene where Ewan McGregor is being chased on some type of hovercraft called a Jet Bike. The first thing I think of is Serenity and how Joss Whedon commented on the special features how every sci-fi should have a hovercraft sequence. Then I realize that this chase in The Island is absolutely horrible compared to Serenity. The chase scene in Serenity was more suspenseful, you cared more about the outcome, it was less ridiculous, and just overall looked better. That just goes to show you don't need Michael Bay with his high budget films in order to make a great scene on the big screen.

I challenge you to name one good thing about The Island.

I was really excited to see it because of the previews. It had Ewan McGregor, a futuristic dystopian society, what looked like the makings of a good film. I was dissappointed to find a poorly written, poorly acted, worthless action film littered with product placement. Garbage.

And it was a complete ripoff of a previous film called "Clonus", which I actually saw on DVD for sale at Best Buy just the other day. Far superior although dated.
Kind of like the original Rollerball versus it's less than worthless remake.

It's a nothing part til you don't got one, then you have to go to ebay.....aaaaagh!

I'll have to check it out. I don't mind about the dated part, if the story is what The Island could have been. I'm a huge fan of Logan's Run so this sounds like it might be somethign I should have heard of before now anyway.

FOLLOWMAL

Haven't seen "The Island", but I have seen "Clonus", it was Mystied. You know, on MST3K, which was very funny.

But that doesn't actually speak to the quality of the film really, just Mike's and robots opinion of it.

Ewan McGregor. I wish someone would give that fellow some lines and a decent movie to be in, when he's given material, he's good.
