I own it, but I got bored after 3 days of playing. To be honest, I was really let down by GW. I would rather resubscribe to SWG than play GW now. Sorry for the hijack, I just am so pissed at MMO companies right now.

Guild Wars... Egh... It's basically a pretty co-op WoW game... Atleast that's what I got out of it from playing the beta.

I'm not a big MMOer, though I LOVED Planetside, can't wait for Huxley and possibly the Star Trek MMO. I played SWG until the CU crap.

I'm mostly a FPS gamer though (hence the Planetside Loving).

Right now I play Quake 4, Call of Duty 2 and the ghey Battlefield 2 (until Enemy Territory: Quake Wars comes out).

I used to play like a maniac but that was during the summer when I had nothing else to do. But when I did have time, I rather liked Guild Wars. I had never played an on-line co-op RPG before so I might have been easily impressed.

I got back into it for a few days during the Christmas break. They had something called Winterday going on for the holiday; they had holiday themed quests, which only went to prove that the programmer people are Firefly/Serenity fans: for one quest you had to chase down a guy for some socks (don't ask) and as he was running away he said, "I'm a leaf on the wind..." and so on.

I'm really close to finishing so I'll probably get back into it during the summer again. I play under the name River Reaver.

What? I need all of that in Mattie-dummy-talk please. What is an MMOer, SWG, and CU crap? FPS? I think I can understand what everything else after FPS is.

Wacky fun!

MMO means Massively Multiplayer Online. Which refers to a game that is based off of an online server which is constantly active and always collecting and sending data... Except during Server restarts (maintenence) :P. And an MMOer is someone who plays MMOs.

SWG, Star Wars Galaxies was a FAILED Star Wars MMO ( www.starwarsgalaxies.com). It may still be active, but not many people play it and it SUCKS BAAAAD.

CU refers to SWG's failed attempts at fixing an already broken game (that was actually pretty fun, but it DID have problems), there was one CU, then there was the NGE or CU2. The CU I could barely stand, the CU2 I left on account of.

FPS stands for First Person Shooter, for example the Classic game DOOM was a first person shooter. All game titles where you are viewing from the perspective of a character is a FPS.

MOO means hello or HOLY CRAP (or Holy Cow), it's cow speak. I thought I should mention this because when I was typing the first paragraph I missed typed MMO to MOO and I thought it was funny.... That's what I get for thinking. That's what we all get when I think.

I play GW. It's not really a MMO. I only play it for a quick hit. It looks very nice but at the end of the day it is no different than a game like Dungeon Siege. To me an MMO should include a perpetual world with a player driven economy and player driven events. The best example is Eve - online which I have just gone back to after a year as I found all other MMOs just cannot compete. I played WOW for a year and just spent 3 weeks playing the beta of Rising Force (3 weeks of my life I will never get back) but Eve is definately the best.

I think MMO creators need to get rid of this notion of having levels. Once you create a level cap you immediatly give something for users to exploit. So the mentality of the user is to reach that level cap as quick as possible and exploit the game in any way to reach that. The thing that annoys me is the user will spend 24/7 playing the game to reach this level cap and then complain about how boring the 'endgame'is.

The thing about Guild Wars is that the creators promoted the fact that it was so different from other MMOs and that it was all about skill. GW still has a level cap (20) which players still exploit the game to reach. However it is not a true MMO as it has no economy to speak of, every mission is instanced (therefore no random events) and the world is not user driven. On the upside there is no monthly subscription :)

You people must belong to lousy guilds.... To truely get the most out of this game, you need a large friendly guild. The companionship of fellow players is what does it for me. Also there is alot of depth in this game. For example... My favorite character is a RANGER MONK I can set him up in any number of ways to be useful... Trapper, Interupter, Runner, Healer, Barrage, or focus on the pet I have... Which follows you and levels up with you. For an example of the depth I'm talking about, check out this link. It shows HOW much attention is given to one small feature, The Pet, which is only given to one class... The ranger...

If you just scroll down this link you will see the crazy charts and stats for JUST PETS!!!
