Hey troops! I just thought I'd lift the addresses from the other thread and start an exclusive address thread to make things easier to find. So, here they are, let's use 'em!! Thanks to OldFogey and FollowMal for ferriting these out. You guys are a big help!

I'm just wondering how many folks have managed to send out letters so far? Does anyone have any thoughts on the frequency for letter mailing? How often and how many is appropriate for one person? One a week? I really hope we get some response out of this!

DONCOAT

Here's my letter to Dawn Ostroff (please note the correct spelling -- it's not Ostraff as in the address above).

----------------------------------------------

February 18, 2006

Dawn Ostroff
UPN
11800 Wilshire Blvd
Los Angeles, California 90025

Dear Ms. Ostroff,

Congratulations on your new position as President of Entertainment of the soon-to-be formed CW network. I hope you meet with immediate and ongoing success. I’d like to offer a suggestion that I think could help ensure that success.

No doubt you’re getting many unsolicited proposals and suggestions for programming for the new network. This is one such suggestion. No, I don’t have a show to pitch. In fact, my suggestion concerns a property that has a proven track record, a large and growing – not to say obsessive – fan base, and impeccable critical credentials.

As you may have guessed, I’m referring to Joss Whedon’s incredible series Firefly, which rose from the ashes of an untimely and premature cancellation at the hands of Fox to a triumphant feature-film incarnation last year, Serenity.

Firefly has unusually broad appeal. It has plenty of viewers in the critical 18-49 male demographic, but I’ve never known a science fiction vehicle that has so many female fans. Much of this has to do with the series’ sharp and witty writing and very attractive and talented cast. These factors make it stand up to repeated viewings, guaranteeing its potential for DVD sales and ongoing revenue.

A new network could do far worse than to anchor a weeknight lineup with Firefly. As a longtime fan, I would gladly support the sponsors of a revived series, and I can assure you that there are thousands of others like me who would do the same. How many shows these days can get a “no channel surfing” pledge from their viewers?

Thank you for listening to my suggestion. I look forward to seeing the good ship Serenity flying again on what would instantly become my new favorite network, CW.

Sincerely,
(me)

------------------------------------------------

No idea if it will do a lick of good, but at least it makes me feel like I'm doing my bit.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I don't disagree on any particular point.
Thanks for the correction. Does anyone have any opinions about handwritten v. typed letters? I hand wrote my first two letters but to do mailings often and widely it sure would be a lot easier to type and sign my name at the bottom.
Handwriting definitely holds more weight than typewritten, photocopied, or emailed. Sheer volume is relatively easy to achieve; and studio execs are probably getting a bit innured to email- and fax-barrages.
If you want them to actually read the letter and get the point, keep it short, keep it simple,...heck, if there were a way to put flip charts and an easel in there, I'd say do that. We're trying to communicate with these people - which means "short, straightforward, to the point." My own recommendation is one page, single-sided but full length.
Everyone is so great! I've been writing, trying to be consistent and now I have more to do, what with the opportunity at CW (hopefully!) I am thinking every week, or every two weeks will do. I think if they get just barraged with handwritten letters they will certainly take notice.
The trick is to come up with something new to say, persuasive but not too fangirly ( in my case). Your letter is excellent, DonCoat. Thanks, LaughingMuse for the suggestion on how to do it.
I think I'm going to have to shorten mine. I go on a bit I think.
I think we should try to keep this thread on the front page, where everyone can see it.
unless Haken notices our thread and looks in on it and tells us how, the only way I know is to keep posting to it and to bump. But too much bumping is impolite... so I guess we keep talking, lol.
One of us could message him I suppose and ask how to make it stay. It's his site ( thank you, thank you Haken, you are so sweet to share this home with us!) so we will just have to see what he says. Maybe he already has something like that and we've missed it, I dunno.
Nicely done, I too will write and so will my 8 year old (I figure that will tug some heartstrings and he is a total Browncoat anyway, plus he gets to practice his writing and spelling). I'll handwrite. I have decent handwriting. if yours is illegible I suggest you type or at least be legible on the parts about Firefly and bringing it back.
We don't have anything to lose with an outpouring of support here people, so do it.
K. Didn't get to it yesterday, doing it NOW.
Anyone got a reliable source to write to the Master himself? Joss?
You'd think he'd be a good one to write for, as he'd be able to walk in somewhere with a ton of letters saying, "Here you go! They love it! Now let me make more!"
I got an email back from Andrew at BrownCoatsRiseAgain, very nice. Sounds like they're not putting any ads in papers or on
billboards just now. Wanting more solid and
impressive DVD sales figures.
In lieu of buying out amazon.com, which would
put me in bankruptcy, I'm writing letters to the
studios. Handwritten is, for me, the only way to go. I keep it to one page and repeat the word
Firefly at least 3 times. For good luck.
Does anyone think it might help to start writing letters to networks other than CW and SciFi? Would it do any good to start petitioning all the major networks, and even the not-so-major networks, in the hope that one of them will eventually wise up?
Couldn't hurt. So who do we need addresses for CBS, NBC, ABC, HBO, Showtime? Who else is doing original programming?
I think this is a great idea! And hopefully, when they get letters from us 'uns overseas as well, they'll pay attention.
I was thinking though...should we all try to include a certain phrase in our letters? Something like that might help show that this is an organised thing by a large group of people, who are very committed to getting the show back. Maybe it would make it more than just random people writing in. What do people think?
CBS Television Network
51 West 52nd Street
New York, NY 10019
ABC, Inc.
500 S. Buena Vista Street
Burbank, CA 91521-4551
No contact names are given I'd go with Attn: Programming but if somebody has more specific information....
I couldn't find addresses for HBO, Showtime or NBC but after perusing NBCs faq I now know where to find answeres to those vexing Will & Grace wardrobe questions.
I think that's a great idea Auglaise! It would show a definate sense of solidarity among the fanbase. So what should it be? Something catchy but not cheesy. Something eminently quotable.
Thanks a lot for posting those address extra addresses David. I think I can safely say we all appreciate it. I'll keep looking for NBC and HBO and the like. I just dropped my letters off this afternoon. I sent one to everyone I could find an address for: Fox both TV and Production company, UPN, CW, WB, USA, SciFi, and Joss' agent. I plan on writing one a week, though they will have to be typed and hand signed. I hand addressed the envelopes and nearly put my wrist into a brace.
As for the catch phrase I like the idea one that always stuck with me was: "2002, they told us it was over. 2005, we told them it was just begining. Re-light the Firefly."
Gorramnit..
From the Sci-fi channels FAQ page....
I have a great idea for a show. How do I submit ideas?
SCI FI does not accept unsolicited material. We only accept submissions/pitches from distributors, producers, agents, talent with representation, etc. This is to protect both the Channel and the individual with the idea.
So I guess letters from us to Sci-fi are a no-go.... Unless we can covince a distrobutor/producer/agent ect to do it for us.
I took that to mean they din't want people sending in ideas for new, original shows that haven't been done yet. They don't want to be sued every time they make a new show, by someone who says they emailed that idea to them 10 years ago.
Sci-Fi Channel got a letter from me just saying how much I appreciate their recent airing of the first season of Firefly, asking them to do it again, reminding them the Firefly fan base is still growing, suggesting (politely) I'd be their slave forever if they pick up a new season. You know, stuff like that. I think they like that.
Bad news is my letter to Sci-Fi Channel got returned as "undeliverable as addressed". So maybe they really don't accept any unsolicited mail from fans. Bummer. Hm. Maybe we'd better stick to bombarding the SciFi Channel with emails re: programming. They seem to accept those and even mention them some in their SciFi News and such.
Kaele and I were talking last night about postcards being the way to go. Short and sweet and to the point and we can mail many. Or mix them up, mail letters somedays... postcards another. I kinda figure they aren't gonna want to open all the letters, so the postcards will have more punch.
How's the campaign going for everyone else? Any changes to report? Any thoughts?
There are some great, albeit, limited Serenity/Firefly postcards on Cafepress.com. Does anyone have an account there and could maybe design a new one, just for this campaign?
Maybe on that says on the front: Re-light Firefly
It could just be on black so technically they couldn't get us for copyright infringement or anything. Just a thought ...
And I think Sci-Fi is the way to go. After watching BG on Friday night, I just kept thinking how awesome a Firefly lead-in would have been to that. Plus they're doing some "Dragon Slayer" mini-series ... I mean, come one, if they can do the "Wizards of Earthsea" and "Dragon Slayer" what's an 8-hour Firefly mini-series gonna hurt? Just some thoughts! Thanks to all for keeping the ship flying!
Totally with you on that! I've been thinking that and wondering if that just wouldn't be the best way for Firefly to come back on the small screen. How BSG was resurrected and reimagined seems phenominal to me, and FF would be a great lead-in for sure! I'm not sure if it's truely a Fox matter of selling the TV franchise rights that would keep it "as is" or if it would have to be marketed and ran under "serenity" since Universal appears to own that end of the movie franchise.. On a unique note, ?NBC/Universal owns and operates SciFi.. so... hmm.
"...use of a swhat??"
