EYESDRIEDOPEN

I just finished watching all four dvds and topped it off with the movie. I had never heard of firefly before, but like you am stoked to have discovered it. So does anyone have the official count?

I think it's about 15.000-20.000 real fans worldwide and a large number of people who had a good time watching the movie.

There are not as many as it seems. It's a pretty small fanbase after all (I don't say this is a bad thing).

Howdy, EyesDriedOpen and welcome to our little Haven. I swear not a day goes by without one or two new recruits announcing their enlistment, so we may be small but our numbers are continuing to grow. And I figure for every one that shows up here and in other forums, there's also a good number of "regular" fans and such.

Anyways, keep the hope alive, spread the word, and know that we'll all be holding the line for when Mal returns. ;p

Hey, welcome to the 'verse!

I am the keeper of the 'coats... so to speak, I'm the designated supply clerk, so you'll be needin' your very own Browncoat..

*let me see here, I know I've got some new boxes back in the corner...aha, here we go, another new box opened, whew we've had lots of new folks lately. Anyway, here ya go...hands EyesDriedOpen a regulation browncoat*

We're proud to have you! This is a shiny ship and there are lots of very nice folk aboard. I think you will be very happy. We may be a small group, but we are mighty!

Someone will be along and offer you strawberries or something good to eat.

The thing about how many there are of us is that we are growing all the time. Each time someone views Serenity it seems we get a convert. And they tell others ( hopefully!) and it spreads from there. Not a day goes by now that I don't greet someone new. I take that as an excellent sign.

Edit: Your sign up # is 18,387 and mine is 13,103, that means between you and me 5,284 people have become active members of this site. I just got here in September right before the movie.
There were lots of folks before me. I suspect we have lots of lurkers here too and that doesn't even count the folks on other boards.

HELL'S KITTEN

I doubt anyone really knows. It's not like we're tagged for tracking purposes.

On the official Universal message board, there were probably around 75,000 accounts opened, last I recall, by the time it shut down. No idea how many were actually individual accounts.

However, estimating how many fans there are based on how many people are signed up on any given message board is fairly narrow minded. E.G., of the 8 fans at my company, I'm the only one who actually has an account.

Count me in as a fan. I just finished the DVDs and now I'm ready for the movie. I just cursed a friend of mine by buying them the DVDs. He'll probably become as obsessed as me.

Huzzah, another recruit! Welcome obsessedwithfirefly, to our little haven in the black. Love the handle, btw. Once you've been in Serenity, you never leave. You just learn how to live there ;p

Yeah, the Browncoats are sort of the Avon company of fanbases, always looking for another convert. Keep getting everyone hooked and someone'll take notice eventually, I'm sure. Figure all these networks invest tons of money trying to figure out what the public wants, and here we are tellin' em...

Anyways, keep hope, spread the word, and know that we'll all be here holding the line until Mal gets back. :)

Got no idea how many browncoats there actually are,but we are mighty shiny folk.
I guess I would count as one of the lurkers, operating on the theory that "it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."
I don't post much on any boards as a matter of fact this is the only one that I am registered on.
I have converteed at least five others that I can say for sure, and at lesst three more in the future.

Well, it's kind of hard to count. There is no centralized way for us to figure out how many of us there are. Maybe we can figure it out someday and really get organized.

One way we can make ourselves known is making sure we spread the signal in letter-writing campaigns and in our purchases.

In the meantime, settle in, post a few, and relax. You're now among family. Welcome to the crew!

The Old Universal Board had 77477 members on 1/2/2006. I kept a screen shot with the number on it. On the Old Universal Board people wanted to earn points for free Serenity stuff, so it was useful to have keep one id and earn points.

Late to the thread but we can try estimating from the other end and see what we get. Serenity made about $40 million in theaters worldwide. I saw the movie 5 times in the theater (paying full price thrice) so I account for 40 of those dollars. So assuming that is typical of all people who saw serenity in the theater there are aproximately 1,000,000 browncoats worldwide. Possibly many more.

Wow those stats are pretty interesting.

Browncoats Unite......looks like we have a new challenge........We need to beat the old universal board of registered users.

A noble challenge, but keep in mind that in addition to the 'officialness' and free stuff available at the UB, you had to register in order to even read the forums. Here, most lurkers don't but rattle the floor.

Well since you asked I guess it's time you know the truth. There are three of us.

The board is a hoax, some of us have multiple screen names and the rest are AIs, they don't know they are, and they've all passed the "troll test" but it's just lonely out here in the black.

We tried the old recruiting thing, but it wasn't enough. We've hacked all of the great institutions, Blockbuster is sure it's selling well, but every so often we have to step aside admit the truth.

There are only three of us.
