I just picked up Orwell's 1984, and just a couple of pages into it he mentioned the Ministry of Peace, or Minipax. Anyone remember a quote from the movie... "It's the Pax. The G-23 Paxilon Hydrochlorate that we added to the air processors.."
Those Mirandans sure found peace.

Just thought I'd share.

My immediate thought in the theater was about the Pax Romana -- the Peace of Rome. I figure they just called it the Peace Drug, though they gave it a fancible name like "G27 Paxalon Gas". It was, after all, supposed to bring about peace.

Probably that too, but 1984 fits better with the total social domination the Alliance had over core planets.

Pax is the latin word for peace. Frequently seen in use as part of the phrase Pax Romanus, the peace imposed upon the empire by the military might of the legions. So it stands to reason that both Whedon and Orwell would use it in reference to a peace being imposed by a tyranical government.
