Serenity/Firefly star Alan Tudyk has been cast as a competitive, arrogant Ivy League graduate in CBS's untitled Carol Mendelsohn drama, which revolves around brilliant legal associates. Jacob Pitts was also recently cast in the pilot.

I LOVE Alan, but another lawyer show. I don't wanna see another lawyer show...

I'm sure he'll be brilliant, but what I'd really like to see him be doing is more of the 'verse.

That's TV: Shows about lawers, doctors, police, and families that have smartass children. Every once in a while there is a series about newscasters or people who live on spaceships but mostly it's all about law, medicine, and snoty kids.

Now I am learning about scary.

It does sound like something we've probably seen (or decided not to watch) a million times, but I'll support Alan Tudyk anyway! If anybody figures out what the name of the show is, could you let us know? Thanks!

It's called "In the Shadow of the Law" and will also star Joshua Jackson and Jacob Pitts.

Well I heard he was signed for the next film (if there is to be one, that is) as well, so I'm assuming that he IS indeed coming back in flashbacks.

Wow, another legal show. What's next, a doctor show where medical students learn important lessons about life and death while trying to navigate the treacherous waters of love? Or better yet, how about a police procedural? Maybe one with a grizzled old cop partnered with a young brash newbie that takes the rules and regulations and tosses them out the window.

Wait! I can't believe I just posted my new and original TV ideas here on the board for everyone to see! What was I thinking giving away my secrets like that?

Well if you want to get him back the options would be either to clone him (but then you would need to accelerate his development to achieve the same age) or to produce an identical twin brother!

Of course you could write a prequel to Serenity, but then you would go back to a still disturbed River. Then again you could also get Shepherd Book back as well who, in my view, still has a lot of mileage left in his (hi)story.

A shame to lose both quiet level headed voices of moderation and wisdom! They acted as foils for the gung-ho overreaction of the more headstrong members of the crew. Difficult in a new film to introduce new crew, that's where a new series would really score - in terms of depth of characterisation and the time to tell a story, which is why when it comes down to it I like Firefy. Yes the film is a very entertaining bonus, but I enjoy the series more.

Of course that begs the problem of where to go with the plot if a sequel is on the cards, does the Alliance still puruse the Tams, and if not what furhter skullduggery can the crew of Serenity uncover and combat? There is a limit to what a 90 minute film can cope with. Oh for a new series!

FIREFLYSREDEMPTION

Ok I have to agree with you whole-heartedly. A new series would allow for flashbacks to uncover the mystery of Shepherd as they traverse the 'verse, as well as allow Zoe to cope with the loss of Wash with flashbacks and maybe find a new love interest. This would also allow for new characters to be integrated and made one with Serenity allowing a movie sequel that would actually make sense and happiness. (not that anything wouldnt at this point) I just hope Joss doesn't get so caught up in other things that Firefly falls by the wayside, (shudders to think) which in that case would force me to become a millionaire to hire Joss to make the thing myself.

Unfortunately the comic book tied up a lot of the loose ends between Firefly and Serenity too quickly. But if another series was done, there is quite alot of prequel story fodder left(that could be worked into a sequal series), especially for Book- since in Serenity he seemed to had been in Haven for good deal of time(getting him there and his experiences there woud be pretty fun to see). What would be awesome is to have a new series with a few new cast members and an agreement form Alan and Ron to come back and do a few prequel or flashback episodes.

But we all need to say a few prayers for the 'verse since Serenity barely made it into the black.....and network execs never seem to care how good of a story they got....but instead how much of our money they got.

Oh God, Oh God we're all gonna die?

Bleh, another generic show. There are already enough shows like this. But its useless to say that because as long as the networks call it a smash new Drama with something the others don't have (Regardless that they are blatantly lieing to us. And the huddled masses who watch all the other ones will chomp this up as well, giving it huge ratings.

I remember someone posting this a while back, but IMO it would be the best way to bring wash back. Flashbacks are a given. But the Idea went along the lines of River seeing Wash (Doesn't matter if she is imagining it) next to her and he was teaching her how to fly. ANd spouting off his occasional joke that forces us all into convulsive laughter.

Maybe we could cut down on the number of legal/medical/investigative shows by merging them into one huge show, lawyers follow clues from trace clues collected from bodies of victims (who are saved in hospital rooms) and then they can try it in court...they could expand the format to 90 minutes to fit it all in. Then I will have more motivation to do homework during said 90 minutes.

And it would probably be wildly sucessfull and next season all of the shows would be doccoplawyer shows. The net end result is the same total inanity in a slightly different package.

Well if wishes were horses we'd be knee deep in manure! (Horse steak is not a meat that I would relish eating!).

Now that the relentless search by the Alliance for the Tams has (presumably) ceased and if River's psychosis is on the mend, then she ceases to be central to the storyline and is now Wash's relacement as pilot (judging by the film ending). What next? A new crew member with a warrant on their head becuase of some knowledge of Alliance malfeasance? A bit samey perhaps.
Perhaps Mal Reynolds now declares war on the Alliance a la Blake's Seven, but then Serenity is not a warship, the crew are not zealots and the Alliance is not the totalitarian regime that the Federation was.

If all we have to look forward to are episodes that flesh out (so to speak) dead characters, then it would lose momentum. It does not need to become a romantic melodrama either, with Jayne, River and the bereaved Zoe finding true love - or for Mal to lose the darkness that leads him to think that none of it means a damn thing. No it needs a hook... a raison d'etre.

A series can handle storylines and introduce new crew members and have guest characters in each episode, and at the same time allow character development of the crew. A new film however needs a point, wrongs to be righted, a big enemy, and lots of action to keep the adrenaline junkies interested!

More lawyers ... I can hardly contain my excitment. If I recall correctly, cops, lawyers and doctors are the reason I stopped watching television. As much as I like Alan, I can't support the further banalization of network tv.

As for sequel ideas, there are all kinds of exciting directions the story could go. Mal made more than a few enemies during the series - bring back Niska, for instance. Or, what if the crew decides they've had enough of the reavers for one lifetime, and they embark on a quest to totally eradicate the crazy flesh-eaters forever. But, heck, if we want something truly epic, have the independents rise again! You know that as cynical and bitter as Mal is, he and Serenity couldn't help but end up getting involved in the war. Maybe Mal even becomes the leader of the new insurgency. :)

I've been enjoying Numb3rs though I suspect that most of the math they bring into it is about as accurate as the technobable of Trek. But the cast is good and the stories have made me think a bit. Not as good as Firefly though. (But hey nothing is.)

As far as Alan in the CBS Drama goes I'll watch just because its him and gotta support the crew. As far as Wash coming back. I can completely see Wash having a twin brother that no one knew about. I can even envison the crew randomly happening upon said twin...who at the time would be juggling gosslings. I think this would be the only thing to make Zoe faint...ever. River seeing Wash in an Obi Wan Kenobi fashion as someone had mentioned earlier is also plausible. Lastly, the only person who knows Book's past...is River. River sees what everyone is really thinking and know's what's up with them. She spent a bunch of time with Book to boot so she must know all his many secrets.

On the Numb3rs note I live with a physics geek who rarely has anything to say about the math so it can't be that off. Just my two cents.

Quote:

Or as a gosling juggler on some backwater moon the crew finds itself stranded on!

Picture the scene:
A stoically grieving Zoe is walking down a dusty street lined with curbside performers. Suddenly, she hears Wash's voice coming from one of the stalls, and runs toward that voice, only to find 'Huben the Magnificent' juggling baby geese! Oh, the pathos!

The more furiously he juggles goslings -- trying to entertain Zoe, his only audience member -- the harder she cries, finally releasing her pent up sorrow...

That would be cinematic magic, I tells yahz!
