I'm curious as too how many others have noticed any of the little background bits and references to other sci-fi shows in the various episodes of Firefly?
I've found two confirmed so far.

1. In the pilot during the flashback of the battle of Serenity Valley when Mal powers up the anti-air turret if you look closely you can see the logo of the Wayland-Yutani Corporation from the Aliens movies at the top of the gun's HUD screen.

2. In Shindig, the third scene when the view pans down from the city skyline into the crew walking down the street. The ship landing in the background is a Mobquet Medium Cargo Hauler from Star Wars.

Anyone else notice these or any more that I haven't seen yet?

there's the han solo frozen in carbonite in "the message" It's a little figure behind Kaylee while she's listening to the recording in the engine room.

In the pilot, you can see a Star Wars imperial shuttle lifting off.

During the scene when Inaras shuttle is docking for the first time, just as she touches down on Serenitys landing arms.

It's in the upper left corner of the screen.

It lifts up, turns and unfolds it's wings and exits stage left...

The Train Job:
The aliance military combat uniforms were borrowed from "Starship Troopers" (saving on production budget)

Hitokirinezumi~
I noticed neither of those, thank you.

PARKER6097~
No way... ru serious?!? I'm going to have to
check that out.

Here's mine:
It's not Firefly, but Serenity.
The Research and Rescue ship(s) on Miranda
had "C57D" decals. This was the name of the ship
in the sci-fi classic "Forbidden Planet" (heh).

The Firefly outtakes had the Millenium Falcon flying through Serenity's ducts.

Not a visual reference, but Serenity had the Operative's 'we are not the evil empire', the almost mandatory Star Wars reference.

Yeah. One of the things that I was wondering about SERENITY before it came out was if the Alliance would now have enough money to give their soldiers actual uniforms and not bargain basement uniforms from other sci-fi shows (although if you think about it, it would be appropriate that the enemy would be wearing clothes from a pro-fascist sci-fi story).

One refrence that I noticed in SERENITY was the torture chair that River was strapped into in the prolouge was similar to the torture chair in BRAZIL. It's weird. BRAZIL pre-dates FIREFLY/SERENITY by about twenty years, but if you watch BRAZIL again, it seems sort of like what life on a Core world would be like. You think the people on the Rim had it bad. Imagine the poor clerks and office drones that have to live and work under Alliance control every day. Probably even referred to by # instead of name.

"Congratulations, DZ-019. Welcome to the team."

Yeast infections. There are a huge number of yeast infections in this county. Probably...because we're down river...from that old bread factory."

Cool. I've never seen Forbidden Planet, so I missed that one. But yea, PARKER6097 is right, I saw the carbo-Solo, took me a minute to find it but it's there.
