No offense taken Piston, and in no way am I emplying that you are a anal retentive dork, if you ever thought that...well, I don't think I could bare it.

My name is "agirlyman", what makes you think there is anything you can say, or do to "embarrass" me?
I just put an idea or thought out there, to see, if anybody got it the way i did, or had something interesting to say.

It's very entertaining to watch you "Robotmonkeys" spring into action, and make a whole post attacking my sentence structure, and grammer, it tickles me to no end to see you jump.

Again, if a gave a rut, I wouldn't be "agirlyman".

Sincerely though I don't wish you to be taken by Reaver's. Raped, skinned, and eaten...

"Honestly? there could be tears"

AM I NOT MERCIFUL?!?!?!?

'cept... not... cause of course admins and what not could move it if they wanted... not suggesting that they will, mind, it ain't horribly misplaced, just pointing out that there are different areas for different things for a reason, so no, you really dont get to run around putting things everywhere; or rather you do, but your not the final authority on if they stay there

as for your analogy, it makes a certain amount of sense, sure. but its just that, an anology. i highly doubt that thats what whedon thinks of the whole thing, and as for your apparent opinion that what you came up w/ is correct and other interprataions of it are flawed, and thats that, well i gotta say, some of the most ignorant people in this world are the ones very much convinced of their own brilliance.

also, i agree w/ whoever mentioned this earlier (don't remember, sry) that maybe thats true, but it aint really a BAD thing, if it is. yeah, ok, now we've expereinced firefly, maybe we won't be the same. now we've had serenity, maybe we've been triggered again. ... so? i really dont see as thats a bad thing; we exist (as fans) because we want to, we're free to take firefly and interprit it as we will, and let it influence us as we will. i doubt theres a one of us who wishes firefly had never been, simply because we cant have more

as for you specificly, the way you wrote this and all, and your comments since- well, i aint gonna take any significant time out of my day pointing out teh obvious or trying to insult you when you obviously won't care, but this again goes back to the aforementioned arrogance; your not especially clever, and acting as though you are and we're all just too dumb to figure it out really just gives us all a laugh at your expense.

I'm trying to put this as delicately as I can, but you're not being very nice, here. Not that you have to be, pe se; but if you put up a short, cryptic one-liner, and want folks to muse on it a bit, then insulting them at every turn usually isn't the best way to go about it.

And to answer your question: no, you're not all that merciful. You might wanna look to that.

agirlyman,, I cannot believe that so few got your brilliant and insightful analogy, which I saw immediately. Indeed, all our brains have been messed with by the master controller.

Well stated, and thank you.

Edit: When I first posted this, I hadn't finished the entire thread. It's too bad, but it looks like you got needlessly attacked by some ignoramuses who didn't get your post, and didn't bother to read about the time you spent getting "brain-damaged" by the work of Mr. Whedon, and just wanted to make some noise to cover their inability to see beyond the words you wrote. There are some highly intelligent posters about. I suspect you just had bad luck with this lot, who seem to not be able to see the light in your original and insightful post.

Why hasn't this idiot been put in troll country where he belongs?

There's a *lot* of problems with this so-called "theory". First, the alliance actually cut into River's brain and modified it. She was trained to become a weapon, and they used the fruity oaty bar subliminal message as a "trigger", making it easier to find her.

We all *chose* to watch Firefly, and we all *continue* to watch it of our own free will. I'm sure lots of people saw Firefly when it was on Fox and went "ehh" (click). Joss wouldn't try to change us, even if he thought it was for the better. I don't think he holds to that, to coin a phrase.

It would seem the alliance had some very specific ideas as to what they wanted River to do. It would seem that with the academy program she was a part of, they were trying to groom the next crop of "operatives" - sleeper cell agents that can be used for espionage or for surgical military strikes with equal effectiveness. We saw River take out a room full of Reavers single-handed. How many kids were in the academy? Imagine what 10, 15, 100 people like River would be able to accomplish.

What possible purpose would Joss have for "programming" us? To *make* people watch his show? He's already been quite successful with his other projects. I think the reason so many people love this show is because of the love that went into making it. From the writers, the producers, the actors, the set people, the guy that did the music... love kept Serenity flying, and when/if it flies again, it'll be love that brings it back.

hope this settles all the BS.

Here's the way I see the goings-on of this thread:

1) G-Man posts an interesting, but vague ANALOGY.

2) Some of us didn't get it.

3) G-Man's response is perceived by some, including me, to be condescending and insulting.

4) Indignant responses to said perceived insult/condescension ensued, followed by escalating volleys of condescension, spelling & grammer checks, and insults from both sides.

5) Along the way, some decided to take G-Man's analogy literally, i.e. "Joss REALLY IS trying to control our minds!", instead of: "Ha ha! Joss must be trying to control our minds ha-ha!"

6) Then more BDIs from the More-Intelligent-Than-Thou crowd decided to chime in and fan the flames of condescension.

7) Thankfully, along the way, some haven't taken any of it seriously, and delivered gems like the "imbue" response...still makes me chuckle.

Once I finally got it, I found the analogy clever and interesting(with some holes), but didn't take it literally.

My biggest problem with this thread is the attitude of those mentioned in #6 above. Folks with this mentality give sci-fi fans a bad name, period.

I rest my case.

Admittedly, those quotes do look rather condescending (when taken out of context). Some futher explanation. As to the theory itself, I could have taken it or left it... it was the smirking, impish "neener-neener you're lame because you don't get it" attitude that got to me more than anything else.

Not to mention your spelling of "grammar". :)

But all kidding aside, I think a lot of us "got" it alright, but probably dismissed it right out of hand, thus "losing" it again, because it was simply too, well, broken. Joss made a great show that affected us all. So, being affected makes us River? Or because it was a life-altering experience? So is a Reaver raping me to death, eating my flesh and sowing my skin into his own. But that hardly makes me River, now does it?

So, I repeat: I don't get it.

"Ahem. Check the sequence of posts again."

I suggest you do so yourself, Jonestein. The second and third posts in this thread were by folks who didn't understand. If I don't understand something, I don't immediately and publicly declare my ignorance. I wait for clarification, or look stuff up. When these folks said they couldn't understand what was perfectly clear to some of us, they just set themselves up for the response they got. It's not really a hard concept to grasp, after all. If you don't get a subtle joke, would you want someone to ruin it for everyone by explaining it step by step? Hardly.

And why would I want to DISCUSS something I couldn't understand? Re: Bill Buckley, I have in fact corresponded with him, and would readily discuss sailing or shooting with him, but would never ask him anything about, say, Whittaker Chambers, about whom I know nothing.

Well then I guess we can agree to disagree. I see nothing wrong with "I don't get it." And a couple of "I don't get it" responses immediately followed by a condesending insult is nothing more than the juvenile "needer-needer, I'm smarter than you" attitude mentioned earlier. G-man could have simply waited for more responses instead of opening immediately with an insult.

By the way, this is a Firefly fan discussion forum, not a conservative politics discussion forum, so your Buckley/Whedon-Analogy comparison is ridiculous.

But I'm sure everyone here is impressed that you've corresponded with Bill Buckley, which I suspect was the impetus behind your comparison in the first place.

ok, so then don't make it more. a few of us try to point out how maybe things could have been handled, or certain things shouldn't have been, and by so doing we're suddenly try to make people better by imposing our will on them? a flawed and double-bladed argument, to say the least.

re: The Androgynous Guy (or is it about gender confusion? I'd ask him, but I'm sure I'd just get some unintelligible raving as a reply.)

Actually, I've got nothing against trolls, per se, I'd just like to get a higher quality of troll around here, just for a change of pace. Scathing commentary is a lot more thought-provoking when it's, I dunno, how about scathing, for starters? Or at least articulate? It takes all the fun out of getting insulted when you have to consult your Moron-to-English dictionary in order to even read it, let alone understand it.

Trying to decipher what some dumbass is trying to say, only to have him turn around and bite people who are -- more or less -- politely asking him to explain himself, and then claiming he is their intellectual superior... It's just bad farce.

And anytime you've got Ruxton on your side, you might wanna think about contradicting yourself, pronto.

So, to reiterate: I just want some proper trolls, instead of these posers. Like my dad always used to say when he caught a little fish: "Run along home and send back your papa".

Wistfully,

P.S.
Please note: My intent in this thread is not to insult the trolls, but rather to show them how it should be properly done. You see, I believe the children are our future. We should teach them well, and then let them lead the way.

Hey, where can I get one of these? I could use it at work.

Barnes & Noble, $48.95 USD. For non-readers, a 'book-on-tape' version in native Moron-language is also available on 20 cassettes, $1000.00 USD (cash only, no loose change accepted); English version $35.95 USD, five cassettes.

Enjoy.

You couldn't beat me, even if you did have a chain.

Er... maybe I should have mentioned that my first language is English, not Moron...

You can tell that the recent witty interpretation wasn't AGIRLYMAN's idea, just by looking at the title of this thread. He was being too abstract and got paranoid.

As one 12-year-old (although I'm not cocky and annoying) to another:

I assumed as much. I just didn't want to leave the other side of the coin unpolished.

I actually recommend the $35.95, 5-cassette version. So many of the Moronic gutturals are difficult to spell, when they are spelled correctly in the first place; it's easier to translate from the native Moronic slurred and drooly speech, as spoken aloud...

And of course the Moron-to-English translation only requires 5 tapes (as opposed to 20 in the reverse) because so many Moronic words and phrases mean the same thing in English, id est: "I'm proud to be a Moron."

GrayAlbatross:

You write very well for a twelve-year-old. In fact, you write very well for a 25-year-old. Good to have you on the board.

P.S.
There's a clickable label at the bottom of your posts titled 'Edit'. It won't remove the double post entirely, but you can at least delete the extraneous words from the duplicate post (also, change any wording or spelling, if you discover an error after posting). Just so's you know...
