That's a good idea. Not only have the flyers but have but have a viewing where the students can watch a few episodes of FireFly. IMO, people tend to ignore flyers, but if you advertise that your showing a FREE viewing on campus, students would attend and become hooked.

I have another idea that's along these lines. Lots of college campuses have movie theaters that show second-run films as well as older movies. So I suggest that everyone contact college theaters nearby (even if you aren't a student--just don't advertise that fact) and ask them to show Serenity.

At the Univ. of Maryland there is a student group that sponsors FREE screenings in the school's theater. If such an organization exists on your campus, ask them to show the BDM.

If a you do succeed at persuading them to show the movie, then get in touch with the student newspaper a few days before the screening and ask
them to write a blurb. If they refuse, then you can always submit a brief editorial or letter to the editor announcing the screening. Some strategically-placed flyers around campus can also draw larger crowds. If the screening is open to the public, then be sure to let Browncoats in the
area know.

Another thought: If your local movie rental store does not carry Firefly, then ask them to order it.
Most stores, especially independently-run ones, are happy to comply with these requests.

hi, guys, i'm a newby! just a suggestion, when you do the free screening, check your local tv stations' websites. they probably have a community calendar and they'll post it for you. they get all warm and fuzzy doing local color. (also federal brownie points!) kaele did it here for our local screening at the bryn mawr movie theatre. try talking your local art movie house for a midnite showing ala rocky horror, if you think you have enough fan base.

Welcome Livlass,

*hands Livlass a 'coat of her own*

If you came by way of Kaele, you know how much of a good thing you are getting into. Isn't she somethin'? Energy... amazing.

Good idea and we do have a community cable bulletin board on our local cable, so I'll be lookin' into that if I get the local college rounded up to show it, or if some student Browncoats do it, I'll suggest it to them.

Post often, we love to talk and I'll be seein' you on the board!

ETA: Well, now... I'm pleased to meet you Kaele's Mommy... and you have two 'coats... hmmm, I'll bet Kaele can tell you what to do with your extra. I'm really glad you joined us.

Forgive me if missed it (just got back from my eye appointment and my eyes are still dilated), but has there been any progress at a form letter of some sort for sending out?

being a long time star trek fan, form letters are pretty much ignored. petitions are pretty much ignored too, as it only counts as one letter, same as if you sent one yourownself. corp thinking is, you can pad it with abe lincolns, kilroys, etc. so one on one has deeper impact. also, a tip from the trek world, use a business size envelope, it gets more attention than the little guys. it looks "official", so it will get opened sooner. can't remember offhand the other hints we got, but they worked! just think! "firefly: the next generation!"

Thanks, Livlass, I've been debating if someone needed to post a form letter to kinda follow for the folks who were having trouble... you're right, our own words are best, even if we think they aren't. So hear that all.... say what you want to say.

And the business size envelope makes sense too. Sometimes in my office the little ones get lost in the shuffle.

Hey...thats a great plan...im on the radio in college for the next week so word of mouth will spread...as Mr. Universe said, "cant stop the signal"
We stick together...when the vids are done...if you send them to me, i can use my video class in college to transfer them onto the TV screens in college...would that be helpful?

"May be on the losing side...Still not convinced it was the wrong one"

ThousandCuts,
Feel free to show it to the class and spread it as far as you can! That goes for anyone else too. I'll get to work on printing out those fliers and spreading the news. This weekend I shall begin making the fanvids hopefully.

Here is another idea that I thought of yesterday for spreading the word on FFF.net or Serenity. Cell phone voice mail. It may not work for everyone, those who use it for business or work though.
My voice mail sounds something like this now... "I'm not here right now, either on a job or not on the bridge so leave me a wave after the beep then speak your piece and stay shiny. If you have no idea what I just said, ask me about Firefly later."
Kinda long but hey if someone calls the wrong number, maybe they'll look into firefly. If a friend answers or a family member that I haven't spoken to about Firefly (there may be a few left) then that's a good chance. Just a thought.
