You start referencing FF/Serenity scenes as analogies for real-life moments.

Example:
I was explaining to my wife how I felt about a potential employer contacting me about wanting to move forward in the interview process because I was basically their only candidate.

First thing that popped into my head during this explanation was the Simon/Kaylee scene from "The Message", where Simon is trying to give Kaylee a compliment, but as usual, flubs it by saying he likes her because she's basically the only available female on the ship.

S'plained to the wife that I suddenly felt like Kaylee in said scene...got a big laugh.

When running errands, this song by Grand Funk Railroad:

http://www.lyricsfreak.com/g/grand-funk-railroad/62096.html

comes on the radio and you are amazed that it seems as though the lyrics were written specifically about Mal for the Firefly/Serenity video that is playing in your head.

MAL: We're still flying.
SIMON: That's not much.
MAL: It's enough.

You have never even thought of writing fanfic before when you suddenly come up with ideas for several "episodes". You try to ignore them but after a while it feels like those Hands of Blue guys are using their little device on your head. So you start writing one to relieve the pressure but the damn thing just keeps coming! As of this moment my word count is around 3000 and I'm not even close to finished!

Edit: Now up to 7500 and still nowhere near finished!

When you have worked out how to draw the theme song in pictures.

As a gift, your parents went to the movie store and...

Phase 1: Mom distracts clerk with stupid questions.

Phase 2: Dad carefully removes very giant Movie poster and walks out.

Not really (the guy just gave it to them). But that's what they told me.

You have a very vivid picture:
Mal is wearing a feathered headress. Wash has a very long feather on his head that bobs comically whenever he moves. They are on the bridge. Mal has some sort of spell book and there is a green fire and incense. Wash is holding a four-legged sheep-thing and is shaving it.

Mal: Are you shaving the vector?

Wash: I'm doing it, it's not enough!
I then laughed so hard that people asked me if I was OK.

Also: Action figures? T-shirts? WHERE???????????

I took an alternate route to work the other day and passed a big sign that said 'Serenity Farms.' I very nearly pulled over to look and see if the barn had a familiar shape - and the first term that popped into my brain pan was 'barn swallow.'

Later that day I was at work (I have a Train Job ) and I was very slowly tooling along in a 130-ton diesel locomotive while the road foreman walked ahead doing a track inspection. We were on a slight downhill, and as I was following the foreman I suddenly found that I was wearing a perverse Jayne-with-Mal-in-the-crosshairs grin.

I'm trying to wait for summer to come. (Season or actress, wouldn't mind either. ) When August rolls around there will be swarms of fireflies darting around outside my apartment and I've half a mind to catch one and name it Serenity.

On that note, an answer to all you ladies who cried yourself to sleep when you found out Nathan had a girlfriend: My head almost hit the keyboard when I found out Jewel was married.

SUMMER!!!

Oooh! I have a couple:

You talk about the Serenifly 'verse SO much, that one of you and your best friend's inside jokes is "Fruity Oaty Bars" and she knows part of the song, even though she's NEVER seen the shows or the movie.

Said best friend also allowed you to record yourself singing the Fruity Oaty Bar song and the Ballad of Serenity on her MP3 player.

You are undergoing converting a different friend to the Serenifly verse because you have talked about it so much (also cause she loves Adam Baldwin).

All of your friends know what you are talking about when you talk about Firefly and usually join in the conversations because you have explained so much to them.

You use Chinese curses and your mom gets mad at you because she knows exactly what you're doing. (She's a Browncoat, too, though not as severe as me)

You are getting a job over the summer MAINLY to pay your mom back for buying Serenifly paraphernalia.

You nearly had a heart attack out of happiness when you found out that you could order Serenifly stuff off the cortex.

You call the Internet the Cortex.
