Yep! I haven't been around either here or the OB much over the summer (was busy getting stuff ready for my wedding!) but now I'm around a lot more often.

Yes, indeedy. Maritimer, too, tho I haven't lived there in many a year.
And kudos to Space, whose Firefly broadcasts are a model of video and audio clarity. These eps are way better than my SVCD copies.

Are we sure Space is gonna air all the eps letterboxed? Sure "Serenity" and "The Train Job" were shown as such, but they were aired that way on Fox , too.

The real test comes next week with "Bushwhacked".

I suppose you're right.

Maybe my mind is fuzzy, but I think I remember a few months back seeing a link to Space's announcement about picking up the series. I thought it said that they were going to play them widescreen.

Time will tell.

They will show all the episodes for sure...it was in the commercial, and it was also in this blurb the Globe and Mail (or maybe it was the Toronto Star) did on Firefly.

Well I'm in Edmonton, Alberta. I have to say that I'm enjoying the episodes on SPACE more than on FOX, but I think that is because they are showing the episodes in order.

I guess it turns out you were right and I was wrong. Bushwacked was aired full screen not wide screen. Guess I'll have to wait for the DVD's to see what I'm missing on the edges of the frame.

BTW travelers, yet another Calgarian here.

P.S. some of us are planning to have a Shindig when the DVD's come out.. sometime in January (i think)

Just my 2 Cents.

Mondays are great on Space. I have to say Bushwacked seems an oft overlooked episode. I myself didn't think that much of it until last night. Some really good stuff. One funny observation though. When the feds are searching the ship for River and Simon, the shot of all of them from where R & S are hiding outside the ship looks quite funny. They're all milling around the galley for a good minute looking under the placemats and under the table. Not too smart these feds.

You're right about Monday night's on Space. Firefly, followed by Buffy, followed by Angel...it really is the Joss power hour(s). Only Thursday night comes in second (New Angel, Buffy, Angel).

I was going to records Firefly on mondays, but I think I'll wait until it comes out on DVD.

And yup, I'm Canadian, and yup, a maritimer.

I always thought that Bushwacked was by far the most intelligent and carefully executed episode in the series, and came the closest to expressing the fundamental concept of the show (all the stuff about the nature of society vs. the darkness vs. the wilderness etc., and the way they incorporated classic western cliches with much deeper meaning--eg. the idea of the savage, etc.).
The camerawork etc. is also pretty much the most meaningful in the series (eg. the way that openning scene is divided into three metaphorical spaces, and each one of those spaces is shot in a different hand-held visual style, to capture what they're about--the chaos below, civilization above, and River standing across in her own space, fascinated by the chaos while Simon and Inarra stand above it. words can't begin to capture how brilliant that scene is, and how well it sets up what the episode is about).
I could go on forever about this perfect episode, but the real issue is...

Does anyone know WHY Space is not airing the episodes in widescreen?
Should we all be sending in complaints?
I was so disapointed when I saw the openning in
fullscreen, especially for this beautifully shot episode.

SPACE is showing the eps that are available for broadcast. This means the same ones both Fox and Global aired. Only Serenity and The Train Job were in widescreen. The rest of the eps, including the three aired ones, are full screen. Joss wanted all the eps to air wide, but Fox nixed that idea. The DVD's will be here soon enough.

I think Space has a choice. Tapes exist in both Wide Screen and Full Screen mode. I just checked my downloaded "unaird" episodes. They were encoded by people in Britain when shown there. At least those three are wide screen, and I think I recall mention that they saw them all in wide screen.

In fact, the copy of trash has a leader in front of it with show information (series name, 1AGE12, etc.). It lists the tape as being in the High Definition 1080p format.
