Celebrating yet another narrow escape (see http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=18640&m=263926#263926 ) we should all pitch in for dinner. Sure it's a bit early for the eatin' but food don't cook itself.

Dave!

I missed all the excitement while I was gone today huntin' up browncoats for all the new recruits. Mighty excitin' stuff.

You know I'm not a cook, but I'll just put these plates of warm cookies ( choc. chip!) on the counter over here for dessert and I'll go wash up and be back in a little bit.

Said I wasn't a cook, not I wasn't good at bakin'!

*grabs cookie and cup of coffee as she heads down to her bunk to clean up*

I can make a mean protein mixed with protein soup. Rival even wife soup if I do say so myself.
Snags a cookie and starts going through cabnets trying to find a suitably sized pot.

You get started on the soup then Copilot. I heard rumors of Asparagus, carots, and tomatos too. So that could help bulk it out a bit. Maybe if there's something leafy arround we can do up a nice salad. If not then steamed asparagus all around.

I wonder how we got all rich and able to afford all the fresh farm stuff though. Probably better off not knowin' I supose.

Hey cookies. *munches one*

Ok soup, check. Salad, check. Entre? *screaming through hatch* What all does everybody feel like eatin' tonight?

Man Dave you missed out on all the fun. There was shootin' an' things goin' boom. I even got shot!
Well ok grazed but still. You might wanna visit Jack in the infirm 'cause he got shot in the leg.

*walks to chair at table and sits down.*

So what y'all gonna fix for dinner?

Howdy all!

Just talked to the Cap'n, and it seems we have a classic bad news/good news situation.

Bad news first: The altercation on Whitefall blew our chance for a real payday today.

The good news is that a good chunk of the goods we didn't flog today were luxury foodstuffs--all imprinted too, which means we have to dispose of it before we get anywhere near civilized space.

And the only way to dispose of the imprint is to run it through a digestive system.

Anybody else here like pickled herring in sour cream? Or brie?

And what the hell is "taramasalata", anyway?

Well, what y'all want for dinner. We're still in the menu planin' stage. So think about it while I head down to the infirmary and say hello to the infirm. *dave saunters down to the infirmary to pay his respects to Jack.*

If that shipment of luxury foods includes bread mixin's we can bake this brie up right.

The asparagus is limp and brown but the carrots seem okay. Maybe if I cut off the brown stuff and steam it the asparigus will be edible again. Oh I found a potato! when did we have potatos last? Looks okay though.

Well I do have this recipe for something called 'snausages' that we could whip up with the protein packets we got on hand. How does that sound?

Quote:

Go easy on the cookies please those are for desert. Probably want more than just cookies for desert though. Hmmm. If I whip the brown protein up to a very stiff peak and drop in some coco extract it just might make a passible chocolate mouse.

*following a puff of smoke comes into the galley with a cigar clenched in his teeth, a cane in his hand, a bandage around his leg and a pack over his shoulder*

*shakes hands and hugs all his crewmates*

Pain, Dave thanks for stoppin' by the infirmary.

*goes to the table and removes a bottle of brandy from his pack*

Eventhough this is Chindi's brandy, it's the only thing I was able to get on Whitefall before the trouble.

*pours a glass for everybody, but hands a glass to both RocketJock and the Doctor*

Here you are comrades.

*clinks glasses with both of them and raises his brandy to toast*

To Fly, Radar, and the rest of us mixed up in that unpleasantness today...I am glad I can still drink with you.

*drinks brandy down and refills his glass*

*walks/limps over to the table and takes a seat*

*smiles around his cigar at his Serenity family*

We will hold...we hold till Mal gets back.

Well... uh, yeah... hey, someone had to look after the women-folk. Yeah, that's it...

*Brings out a box of freeze-dried strawberries*

Well, I was savin' these for a special occassion, but seein' as Kaylee's still making doe-eyes at that flouncy doctor of hers... 'Spose I can donate these for desert. Least I can do, what with the risking of life and limb, and all... ;p

Roger that. Dang. Even when I don't have a payday, I'm still rollin' in dough.

Sorry, but maybe I didn't make this quite clear; except for the flour, all of this is imprinted; we have to use it up before our next planetfall inward of the rim.

Now our next stop -- I asked the Cap'n -- is on New Hall, which isn't a problem, but after that we're shaping orbit for Persephone, which is altogether too close to the core to be carrying imprinted goods without a luxury tax receipt. Especially the way the Feds have cracked down since the Miranda riots.

So--we have four days, five at most to run this haul through our metabolisms. Towards this goal, I recommend using some of that olive oil on those lovely tomatoes -- there's vinegar already on the shelf, I checked -- and I'll bake some sourdough tomorrow, so that we can do a vinegar-and-oil sop to go with that quarter-wheel of white cheddar.

Alternatively, if someone could dummy up passible receipts for the load, we could take our time, and stretch this stuff out for weeks...

Either way, I see no need to feast on protein tonight, lessen you really want to. Slice that salami, haul out that baked brie, and laissez les bon temps rouler!

(By the way, it turns out that Taramasalata stuff is some kind of fish-egg dip. Not bad, if you like salty fish.)

*Flying Shuttle 2 at full burn, the Bun catches up to the departing Serenity, engages the remote-control on the grapple, and is pulled into position*

Are you all asleep?

*Stacking cooler boxes on a hand-truck outside the door of the shuttle, she is unable to detect many signs of life aboard the ship, aside from snoring and the occasional mumble*

Hope there are some leftovers...

*Looking over into the cargo bay she notices traces of the day*

Gorramit! Cleaned all my guns and then went off scouting berries and missed the party! Bay's full of mud, blood, lead, brass and cigar butts!

*arriving at galley*

And dirty dishes to boot. Well, there'll be fresh berries and heavy cream to put in the cereal in the morning.

*notices ship's cat lounging nearby*

Sure glad they didn't leave you behind, kitty. Here's a little saucer of cream.

*scratches ship's cat in that best place right above the tail*

Now, let's scope out Copilot's leftover protein and the sour-cream-and-fish business....
