You know, its been suggested that a brown coats we should buy additional (or loan)DVD box sets and give them to friends and family. Maybe we could just record the episodes off Sci-fi and give those away.

But buying the DVDs would get more money to Universal which would help our cause even more. DVD sales are what will get us a sequel.

Yes, mattcoz is right. We need the sales numbers to show, not the fact that we can cleverly steal and reproduce copyrighted materials.

Sadly, I'm flying to the UK that day, and thus will miss the marathon. I'll have to beg my neighbor to watch and tivo it. :D

Yea, that could work for getting people interested but the idea behind buying more box sets is to boost the sales numbers.

Buying the Firefly set nets Universal no money at all. That goes to Fox.

Yea Chindi, and the intros by Mal and Book. I love those, especially Mal's.

It's sorta fun to watch it on tv the way it first came out. I like the DVD's better but tv is fun.

Buy Serenity with the new low priced ( on Amazon) DVD set of the show. Recruit with the movie and the series. Either way, Browncoats will be born.

Universal is who we are trying to interest the most tho. They can make a sequel if interested and they have a interest in SciFi where it's possible a mini series or tv movie could be made. Either way...they come first.

You're right. Buying the DVD sets puts money in Fox's pocket, but the DVD sales numbers did help convince Universal to make the BDM to begin with. Boosting those numbers will only help the cause.

I would use the $19.86 priced series sets at Amazon.com & at Wal Mart to hook people then convince them to go by the BDM on DVD to put money in Universal's pocket & push for a sequel.

I HOPE we'll see a special edition of the boxed set with more cast commentaries!

And I HOPE we'll see a "Shiny Editon" of the BDM with an all cast commentary and lots of extras.

* Then in a stage whisper*
Then after sales of these shiny items reach more than all of the sales of every other scifi idea in history, they will make 2 more sequel films, and another series *voice getting louder now* and Nathan will win an Oscar for Best Actor and Joss will win an Oscar for Best Director and "Serenifly" will win Best Picture and *shouting now* the returning series will sweep the Emmys.... uh wait... that's all in my head, but it'd be pretty in real life, huh?

11THHOUR

I've made some "special editions" of my guerilla marketing posters just for promoting the Firefly marathon. Please make use of the posters and min-posters to spread the word:

http://the11thhour.home.att.net

There are still a lot of people who don't know what they've been missing. Putting up posters, handing out the mini posters (always keep some with you!), or leaving them where folks can pick some up, will go a long way to bringing Firefly to peoples' attention. As great as it is to tell people about our shiny show, it helps folks to remember if they have something like a flyer to take away with them with the marathon info on it.

Getting good viewer numbers for the marathon will do lots of good things for Firefly/Serenity:

• Brings in new fans who will most likely to on to buy the DVD sets.

• Show that there continues to be an enthusiastic audience for FF/S.

• Helps strenghthen the possibility of having Firefly revived for television somehow.

Although getting a movie sequel would be awesome, movie making is such an involved and expensive undertaking... and then the result is around two hours of our 'verse. Whereas some type of mini-series on TV isn't as expensive for a studio and will give us even more hours of FF/S wonderfulness.

The upcoming marathon is a great opportunity to demonstrate how viable a property Firefly is. So anything we can do to help boost the numbers will be a great help.

On the subject of gorilla marketing, I hope everyone's remembered to rearrange their local video stores. :) My fiancee and I have made it a habbit to at least go in once a week and make sure to move Serenity from where it's hidden in the back to a more prominant place among the "new arrivals". :) I've seen it stay there for days without store employees noticing, so hopefully it'll get a few more rentals every week.

It's not quite how it first came out, and I'm not talking about the order either.

Serenity (the episode) was shot so that Fox would have to air it widescreen, there's a shot in there that doesn't work in fullscreen. (Serenity was the only episode Fox aired in widescreen.)

Sci-Fi aired it in fullscreen anyway (no idea why, they seem to love widescreen) so on the catwalk when Mal confronts Simon the shot looks pretty bad, iIrc.

Then again maybe Sci-Fi will air it widescreen this time around.

Thanks Chris, I didn't know that. Now that you tell me though, the scene you refer to does look better on the DVD's, now I know why... it's all Simon, even when Mal is talking on the full screen. Oh, I hope SciFi shows it right, the folks that are seeing it for the first time deserve to see it right and be drawn in.

I hope the board gets slammed with new folks that day!

I've got a lot of useless triva in my head, here's one of my favorites:

The first time the Mona Lisa was stolen no one noticed. The guards did not realize it was stolen in spite of the fact it was not there. The people looking at the artwork didn't realize it was stolen. The person who owned the place walked by and didn't notice it was stolen.

(Apparently) Everyone just assumed it had been taken down for a reason.

-

On a less historic note my sister put a piece of artwork the size of a doorframe in a college campus about a year ago and no one has moved it yet. It should have, in theory, been thrown out because it is technically litter. When I say no one has moved it that isn’t technically true, apparently someone moved it about a yard and a half, but that’s hardly a big deal and where it is now is arguably more prominent than where it had been before.

-

People have a habit of assuming things are where they should be, and most don't ask questions.

Reminds me of my booth. Well I shouldnt really say my booth, since it isnt mine anymore. When I was in High School I was the tech officer for the theatre, anyway my techies and I left all kinds of weird crap up there. We had a table that we played Magic: The Gathering on that had all kinds of things carved into it. There was also a bunch of stuff there that had always been there.

Well as it turned out the original Tech Guy from when the school first opened in 1991 had left a lot of the other stuff up there, we just added to it. I've gone back since then, and the people I know have all graduated, but my junk is still there. A fitting legacy, no?

It's funny how people see things and just assume they should naturally be there. Unless it's blatantly graffitti then it probably won't get moved. Guess the lesson here is to flood the world with Firefly Fliers, as long as they look like they belong we can subliminally convert people to our cause!

My sister's plan was for Guerrilla art but beyond the one work it never came through. (No one would join her.) I wonder if doing that with a firefly theme might be more effective than simple fliers. Just walk into a place and find a spot that looks deserving of a picture hang I giant picture of Serenity with a label saying, “The Firefly Serenity from the movie Serenity” or some such. That might make a bigger impression than a flier.

Ideally we’d be talking about a painting or some such but I have a feeling most couldn’t take the time and many like me are probably lacking in skill.

-

Still guerrilla art might make an impression even if it is just printed out pictures (provided they're big or otherwise look like more than printed out pictures.)

Does no one have TiVo?? Or a VCR? Or a DVR? Or anything that records by Scheduled programming!?

And ummm... Full screen can be made FROM widescreen.

There are full screen editions of lots of movies (though today they don't really make as many since lots of people have widescreen TV's now). It's nothing but making the movie image a little bit larger... Like zooming in. And when certain things pop up on the right or left that is significant and the audience NEEDS to see it, they just move the image to the left or right using software like After Effects.

You can turn anything Widescreen into Full Screen.

Though Full screen sucks. Even with a 4:3 TV I would just want Widescreen. Me being someone who practices photography as a hobby, it's often times the author's vision to have this certain moment in widescreen format, where two foes are standing across from eachother on the borders of video.

If you've ever seen the widescreen and the full screen version of Jackie Chan's Who Am I then you know what I'm talking about. If you don't let me explain:

Select to view spoiler:

In Jackie Chan's Who Am I, around that final fight on the Roof where Jackie fights those two guys. When he's fighting the guy with the long legs, they kick eachothers ankles a whole lot, like 50 times and you know it hurts. They then back up and are on the edges of the wide screen version and BOTH of the Actor's reactions to the pain are IMPORTANT.

But in the Full screen version it only shows you the villians reaction, because to them that's more important, though I think both are equally important because the villian right off the bat is in pain and rubbing his ankle, while Jackie is saying "Come on come on" then after a few seconds of watching the bad guy rub his ankle in pain and Jackie saying keep fighting, Jackie finally starts rubbing his own ankle as well. It's hilarious.

But you don't get this in the full screen version because they have to zoom in for full screen.

If I were to ever get into being a director or anything, which I wouldn't because I like 3d stuff more :D, I would make sure that NONE of my films wound up in Full Screen format. It ruins the art.

04:00 PM FIREFLY OUR MRS. REYNOLDS
05:00 PM FIREFLY JAYNESTOWN
06:00 PM FIREFLY OUT OF GAS

And after that, it'll be time to re-watch Serenity! About the episodes- wish our tv reception was clearer, though...

48 minutes to go (well, I'm looking at an atomic clock, the board time must be off)!

I only wish they were playing on a Weekend. We would get more recruits that way. I am enjoying watching it now.

I am a newbie to firefly but hooked all the way. I am going to get my dad Firefly for his birthday.

It's weird watching it with commercials and hearing the introductions by Book and Mal! I vaguely remember seeing some of Firefly when it was originally on.

It's on every TV in the house and I'm doing some spring cleaning while watching!

It's also a great itme to run the marathon because it is season finale for SciFi Friday. I'm watching till I have to go to work and then recording for the rest of the evening (have to work)! Hope the ratings are high!

I just got done watching the end of the marathon on Scifi.

Makes me wish Firefly never left TV =/. Not only am I depressed about the well known previous events of Firefly's demise, but I'm also depressed because the last episode shown on SciFi was Out of Gas!!! :'(

Same here. Man, what a drag.

While I bought the "Serenity" DVD, I never bought the "Firefly" DVD (for reasons explained previously), so I enjoy watching it on TV. Because of my work schedule, I missed a few episodes, but I definitely wanted to see "Jaynestown" and "Out of Gas" (which I got to see) -- as well as "Serenity" (both parts) and "Bushwhacked".

As thoroughly as I enjoyed seeing them again, I wish I didn't, because it's like getting a fix of something you've tried so hard to avoid, and now you're hooked all over again.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons why I don't watch my DVD everyday now. AND because I keep letting my friends borrow it.

It really sucks how it's just over. After watching the last episode (on the DVD it's Objects in space) it just doesn't seem right. OHHHH THE PAAAIN!!! :P

Me too, Cartoon.

Although I own the DVD's and watch them all the time... the heartache never goes away.

It's kinda like being an addict...

Well, I guess I am, addicted to Mal and Firefly.
