MalNourished and I are going and meeting up there. I'm bringing my mom and sister, she's bringing her friend. There is already a largish crew of Browncoats right there for you to meet up with. :)

Shindig: We are planning a SHINDIG on at least one of the nights, but are not sure which one until the schedule is finalized. We only ask that you bring some packaged protein and mudder's milk to share.

General Admission: The General Admission is for the ENTIRE weekend. The General Admission allows you first come-first served seating into the guest panels and Q&A. It also includes entry into the dealer room. The General Admission ticket also allows you to purchase tickets to the Common Rotation concert. I've only just heard of them, but they look very popular with the Buffy/Angel crowd and from what I've read go to more than a few conventions.

GA autographs are the guests who will be signing in the dealer room. (Nathan and Adam are not them). GA does not include the professional photo ops, you'd need to purchase a membership for that and sign up for your specified guest. If you want a professional photo, upgrade your ticket and buy them SOON before the slots disappear. The photo ops are limited in number.

Memberships: I highly recommend the Full membership and the photo op with Nathan and Adam. The Full Membership allows you to get all autographs and tack on any other event you like and guarantees you a seat in any panel/Q&A. MalNourished and I are getting Premium Memberships. Value-wise it was the best for what we wanted to do. One guest photo op, cocktail party, dance, etc. Both of us are also paying for the Serenity photo shoot with Nathan AND Adam.

Hotel/Resort: Bushkill, PA is a very popular Pocono ski resort town. The hotel is supposed to be VERY VERY nice. It is actually a resort with horseback riding among other things. I'm getting a villa (prob not AT the hotel, but a larger room with a kitchenette, so you may have to drive to get to my room).

The resort aspect is one of the factors that is driving up the price a bit. Also, keep in mind that this will be a more intimate convention and you WILL pay for that sort of thing. There aren't thousands of people going where the convention organizers are able to bring down costs because of volume. This is what appeals most to ME. Large conventions are nice, but they're so impersonal.

I went to a Blake's 7 convention in North Jersey more'n a few years back and these prices are comparable. Even after 15 or so years the prices didn't change all that much, so don't get sticker shock. It IS reasonable for what kind of convention this is.

General Notes: I've spoken with the organizer and have e-mailed her back and forth. She is VERY prompt with her responses and is very nice on the phone. I am extremely excited to go to this. Her being so helpful only makes me more itchy to go.

PLEASE purchase your tickets in advance so they are aware of how many people are coming and can plan accordingly. Before the middle of May is an excellent deadline so that they can finish deposits on guests and the like. Even if you're purchasing a GA ticket.

ALSO:

It says the special memberships are sold out. If this is the way you want to go, don't be afraid to e-mail to be added to the list. Sometimes attendees cancel and even if it's the day of the convention, at least you'll be on the list. If one becomes available, they may offer you one.

I got my Premium Membership because I e-mailed them and they had them available.

Is this going to be pretty much a Buffy/Angel thing that just happens to have Nathan and Adam there? I would love to go hang out and immerse myself in all that is Firefly but I'm not a Buffy/Angel person AT ALL. I'm thinking this might not actually be my sort of gig. (But the Shindig sounds very tempting!)

It is a Buffy/Angel themed convention. There's no avoiding that. :)

I'm not into the vampire/goth scene either. I don't mind Buffy and Angel. I had asked about this myself, wondering if I'd be out of place since I was mostly interested in our BDH's. I felt much better because there seems to be more interest in Firefly/Serenity now that the movie's been released and we won't be alone. There are already other Browncoats posting on the Moonlight Rising Forums on ezboard. They have their own group over there! LOL

Don't worry. I'm sure there'll be plenty to do. Dance, cocktail party, concert... And there'll be other Browncoats to hang out with and chat with. (Like me!)

I just couldn't pass up the chance to meet Nathan AND Adam in one place at the same time.

That's what I'm thinking

And the prices are comparable to Flanvention, so I'm thinking I'm gonna go with full membership and the photo ops - with a request for the premium membership. What about the banquet and cocktail party - did you buy/get those as well - should i buy those as well?? This'll be my forst con an' all, such a newbie!

The cocktail party comes with the Premium membership, so I'm hitting that one. So's MalNourished. (Not my mom or sis though)

I...don't know about the banquet. I don't have tix for that one. There's speculation about a raffle to sit next to a guest (besides the e-bay auction that's now over). If I do that and win, I'd DEFINATELY buy a banquet seat.

I think the banquet and the Diamond Party are the only two things I don't have in my ticket... The only way to get into the Diamond Party is to buy a Diamond membership. They get all the cool stuff. First row seating at all panels and the like.

My pocketbook says I'm not THAT special. LOL

Adam will not be coming in at last report until Saturday - so he will not be at the cocktail party. I do not know when Nathan will be arriving. He's filming a movie right now that should be done before then so maybe he will be there Friday. Also if you want a chance to sit with Nathan or Adam at the banquet, besides buying the banquet ticket you will need to purchase raffle tickets, since seating is random but they are raffling off the table seats. If you do not buy a raffle ticket you will get a randon assigned seat at the remaining tables.

Yikes! I've gone ahead and bought my tickets! Got the weekend pass, the cocktail party (although my TDH won't be there according to Ravenu)and the photo ops. Have requested waiting list for the Permium membership and also requested the special double photo op with both Nathna and Adam (yummo). So we'll definitely meet up and have our own shindig!! Never done anythign like this so sure hope it all turns out. My guess is, as long as I find other browncoats there, and with Nathan and Adam, I'm guessing it will be lots of fun!! Lets make some plans once the schedule is firm!

Yay, I'm glad you're coming, jaynesbunkwoman! We are going to have a blast at the con, and definitely at the shindig!!!

I wouldn't worry about the Buffy/Angel theme, y'all. The con has three headliners, and two of them are BDHs, so expect lots of browncoats and FF-related activities.

Heck, it's worth the the cost just to be sandwiched between Nathan and Adam for that photo op!

Anyone else thinking of joining us?

I've seen most of it and I am STILL planning on going.

Alot of that was just griping. I've had more than a few e-mails back and forth with Aria and she seems awfully nice.

I'm also a fair-minded, intelligent person. I'm a school teacher and I don't like whining.

Any idiot who's ever been to a convention or is familiar with people who work in a celebrities' line of busniess should know that these things are fliud. I've been to massive conventions where half the guest list changed the day of the convention! I'm talking Creation Conventions here. No small-time convention, thank you very much. Actors and actresses have to go where they can make money. If they get a job offer, there will be a schedule change. I don't hold it against them. This is their line of work. I'd like to get paid for any tutoring I do, wether it's as a favor or because I need the money.

If a convention doesn't make sales, there's no way they can pay for a guest to come out. It isn't cheap!

As far as I'm aware ALL volunteers and attendees are paying for the convention. I've paid the second highest ticket there is AND I'm volunteering.

Considering this convention is still going on and there are people who are pre-paid and there are guests coming...they must be doing something right!

I'm going. AND I'm going to have a good time!

EDIT: Just even looking at that darn page, it's all posted by anonymous people. Tips you off right there!

I read that livejournal page before I bought my membership. Did it give me a moment's pause? Yes, to be honest, but then I realized something. There are always going to be one or two unhappy people at an event like this, and it only takes one or two unhappy people to fill up an LJ page with venomous anonymous posts. Whoever wrote these posts clearly has it out for the con organizers, but I'm not going to let them ruin what promises to be a damn shiny weekend.

I've been to the past two MRs. Wonderful times, by the way. MR supplies badges which have your name and badge number/seat number on them. Last year, we were able to request having our MR forum name as well so that other attendees could put faces to the people they've been talking to for months.

Don't worry about the Buffy/Angel aspect, especially since two of the three headliners are of Firefly/Serenity. The Buffy/Angel guests are wonderful to the attendees, especially James Leary and Camden Toy. Very approachable.

I'll be the first to admit that MR has had its bumps in the past. But like it was previously posted, people still return for the next year. The weekend is what you make of it. Unlike some of the anonymous replies on the LJ page, I've never had a problem with Aria. She's always been very helpful prior to and during the convention when I had a question or complaint.

I hope to see some of you in June! I'll check my badge number later, since I'm not at home, but it's a Premium Membership which some of you are in line for. :)

People have moved around in the past. In '04 for James Marsters Q&A, the majority of people from the back (I was one of them) went up and sat on the floor. You just had to make sure that you weren't blocking anyone's view. This happened last year as well, during Anthony Stewart Head's and Christian Kane's Q&A.

However, this is a different venue from the past two years, so I don't know the layout of the room where these will be taking place. If there isn't a lot of room in front of the stage, this won't be possible.

But there's always before and after Q&As and such to mingle a bit. :)

There's an appreciatin' Nathan thread on serenitymovie.org and they are thinking about making up tee's and givin' one to Nathan at MR. So even though i do prefer Adam, i still appreciate natahn as well! Maybe kaele can explain more...Kaele?

Tees...

Well, you're right. They are supposed to be Appreciatin' Nathan ones, but it won't be extravagantly obvious that it's Appreciatin Nathan.

We asked for and GOT permission from MPhillips to use one of his masterpieces.

[url] http://www.fireflyfans.net/sunroomitem.asp?i=7179

We're also looking to add in FireflyFans.net and SerenityMovie.org plastered on the back. Gossi's given us his permission to use SerenityMovie, we're still waiting to hear back from Haken. I love permission. Makes us appear sorta respectable when we do our dirty deeds. :)

We'll add Nathan Appreciation in chinese glyphs on the neckline back. Or the sleeve. We're not sure yet on the placement. Neckline's cheaper.

As to IDs and screennames, in order to save some cashy money, I was thinking of bringing some fabric pens. Add in your screenname wherever you feel happy with.

I'm buying shirts for myself and 2 or 3 others, then possibly Adam as well. We're discussing giving one to Nathan AND Adam, just because they're so shiny. :)

MalNourished has a dream suite too. They look awesome. You guys are lucky, you'll be in the actual hotel.

Since it'll be three of us (mom, sis and I), we got kicked to a villa. It's outside the hotel I believe but I'm not sure how far. It may be a short driving distance. It's got a kitchenette, table and chairs, and a couch. I think we may have more room there...and at least more seating. I ain't pressuring you or nothin, I'm just trying to find the largest space for us! LOL

Tell ya what, we'll plan on Saturday night at my place definately and we'll leave Friday night flexible for now? Tentatively at my place, but flexible. That sound okay?

Anyone know what they wanna bring to share? I've got a case of Yeungling on my shopping list and MalNourished is bringing a blender and some mix for fruity drinks. With swirly umbrellas.

We NEED to find somewhere that has swirly umbrellas...

Whhhhooooeeeee...

In two days, we went from 300 views to 1300 views! Sure does pay to be popped onto that front page.

I HOPE OTHER PEOPLE READING THIS ARE THINKING ABOUT COMING! PLEASE MENTION ME OR FIREFLYFANS.NET!

It'd be nice to prove to Aria that some of my hard work is reaping rewards.

LLBristow, shoot me a message on here with your e-mail address if you're interested in those tees. I'm just taking names for now. It will be a very limited number of tees...as in however many people we get cashy money from. I know you're over at the MR forum, so I can find you there too. :)

JBW, Yeungling is a lager beer. Very good. Mmmm. I have very specific tastes in beer and Yeungling is my favorite. I promise it's not discounted beer (like Iron City or Rolling Rock) and it seems to be a favorite of the guys and gals near here.

'Matter of fact, I may be having a bottle or two of Yeungling sitting here next to me tonight while I do my surfing. :)

MalNourished is bringing the blender and some mixes. So a bottle of wine or something harder would not go amiss. (I had a request for Captain Morgan's so I'll be supplying that.)

And munchies. Always need munchies.

MalNourished also brought up the fact that if we're drinking and my villa is driving distance, people may not want to drive. If that is the case, I will volunteer to be designated driver if need be. I don't mind a'tall. I'm only a social drinker and will probably only have one or two beers that night as it is. I'm there more for the atmosphere. :)

No flying spaceships while intoxicated.

We will be responsible Browncoats!

Besides, I'd never forgive myself if someone got hurt going back to their room and missed Adam or Nathan!

That's NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. See, saying it loud makes it so! Sides', you WILL be within walking distance!

Get your seat assignment yet? I know i'm not premium seats but...need to get within good camera and viewing distance!
Any ideas or hints on which night the cocktail party is?? Did I see somewhere it was Friday?

I'll be in Jaynes bunk

Nothing yet from MR or the hotel. I called the hotel this past week, and the girl said my confirmation should be on its way.

The MR people may be holding up my ticket because I requested to be next to Vanessa. They may be shuffling for me, or waiting on her or whatever.

Aria knows I'm coming. I'm not worried. :)

Over at the MR forum, Aria's hinting at some surprises. I am dying to know...
