I've been wondering.. Do you think Joss reads books? Surely he must, and if so do you think he may have read David Weber's "Honor Harrington Series"? If he did ever read that "kick ass" series of sci fi books i'd love to hear his comments.. Guess i'll never really know but I suspect he would love it! Strong female character in a sci fi verse.. The Honor Harrington series is the book series I would most dearly love to see made into movies or TV.

If Joss or anyone who knows Joss ever reads this thread can you please ask Joss the question for me and could I be so bold as to request a reply. :) (I know, I know, fat chance. but hey)

I'm happy to hear comments from anyone who has read the series.

You know, I've got that whole series sitting in my closet, from my dad's collection, and I've never gotten around to reading them. Guess I'll have to give it a try when I'm through with my current books ;p

The whole series! lucky bastard! :)

I read the whole series through the library and am now aquiring them all for my own collection but I only have half so far.

Bookmark this thread nuclearday, come back and let me know what you think after the first book.

Hmmm, let's see.. Have I ever read the Honor Harrington series. (note the log in name...)

My husband and I both LOVE the series. As well as David's other books.

A friend of ours gave me the first two to read and I was hooked instantly. Which of course was his plan because he knew that I would then go out and buy the rest, leaving him free to borrow mine.

Someone on this board had the whole quote as their signature. You know the one... "blah blah ships exploding... blah blah... everyone shocked.. blah blah... OOPS" Kick ass!

That and the remark in the first book about how noone must have told Honor that Basalisk is where they send their screw ups, are my husbands and my favorite parts. Of course everything in between rocks as well.

Glad to see others enjoy the Honorverse(I knew you surely must)

I've ordered the first book from one of David Webers other series called "The Dahak Series", I cant wait to give it a try too.

Do you have an opinion on how Joss Whedon would take to the Honorverse? Seems to me it would be right up his alley.

I want movie spectaculars of the Honor series! The space battles are so vivid in my head but my eyes want to see it too.

The Dahak books are pretty good. I think the last book in the series, Heirs of Empire, is the best.
But the best bet is always Honor Harrington. I started reading the books when I was 13 and wanted to grow up and be just like her (I still do).

Yeah She is pretty damn cool. I like when she had the duel with that professional gunfighter and took him out with a shot from the hip.

Thanks for the heads up. I did a little poking around and found that the first book in the series is available for a free download, or to read online, from Baen Books Free Library. Here's the David Weber page.

From what I've read and heard Joss say (which I suppose isn't all that much), I get the sense that he really isn't "into" the science part of science fiction any more than is necessary to further the plot. I'm not sure where he stands on the matter of war and tactics. The Honor Harrington books are chock full of both (to the point where I started to find it overwhelming).

On Basilisk Station is such a classic and I've read it a bunch of times. I made it through maybe another 4 or 5 of the books and just drifted away to other stories (probably fantasy). As much as I love SiFi, all the battles and horrid deaths made me weary and depressed. The clever plot twists and Honor's strong character is what kept me reading long after I would have normally bailed.

Interesting question....Maybe someday Joss will comment on the series and we can put the matter to rest!

I've been sane a long while now, and change is good...
