LADYSTARHAWK

Thank You to all the fanfic writers. The quality of Browncoat writing is the best I have found in any fandom (and I read many). Please keep up the good work.

I read a lot of fan fiction (pretty much all I read, and I'm an avid reader) and I have found that in the firefly verse I like 85% or so of what I read. (The only things I won't ever read are incest and Original Characters.) I was previously heavily into the Lord of the Rings fan fiction and I liked maybe 60% of that.

The stuff I have been finding for my newest interest is not very good. I guess I have gotten spoiled here. Most of what I'm finding in other fandoms are "Mary Sue's" and I really hate those. (I had some BAD experiences in the LOTR fandom with "Mary Sue's")

I want to extend a hearty THANK YOU to all te firefly 'verse fanfic writers. Keep up the good work. I plan on reading Firefly fanfic for years to come.

Lady Starhawk
(and if anyone knows where I can find decent Stargate Atlantis fanfic let me know)

My days of not taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle. - Mal

I'm not a writer/reader of SGA fanfic, but I do beta for someone who writes in that 'verse. She posts her stuff at livejournal.com. Just search interests for either stargate or atlantis and you'll probably find lots of communities to wade through. *g*

Hope that helps.

Great idea, and by all means, many, many thanks.

Firefly fanfictions give me a reason to stay awake at work.

At last.

Hi, folks. This is as good a time as any to announce that www.stillflying.net will be back with the first two episodes (that's right, two episodes!) of virtual Season Two on April 11, 2006.

Call me an idiot, but I've been reading fanfic for almost 20 years. (GOD, am I THAT old???)

I've never heard of a Mary Sue.

What's that?

I started reading one of these and I could almost see the characters acting them out. These are great! I was just wondering, who writes for this site? Are they going to get Joss to help them so we may find out what he had planned for our crew had the series continued? TYIA

If we can get Joss to smile down on our little site in any way, we'd all be pretty gorram ecstatic. Our goal is to keep the boat in the air until he comes back to us! We will hold the line.

Kaele,

A Mary Sue is a character who is ludicrously perfect. She is the smartest, strongest, prettiest, best shot, most diplomatic, and generally unerring. Her male counterpart is traditionally the Gary Stu.

Old Star Wars nerd here, let's just say that anytime the words "Timothy Zahn" appeared, the terms were inevitably close behind.

Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal, Fox!

You obviously haven't been reading my stuff... though I'd welcome your criticism.

And frequently, she is the author's self projection into the fic - hence (often) solves all the problems, and (frequently) gets it on with the author's main infatuation.
