Brennan kicking Adam's butt:

The big save by Booth and crew at the end:

I thought Adam did a good job of being bad. The Brokeback thing was funny. The only thing I didn't like was that the role he was cast in wasn't believable. If you really think it through it didn't make sense. No FBI agent is going to throw it all away for a bunch of mobsters, particularly in a way that would have gotten him caught in the long run anyways. Well everyone has to have a day job and I don't begrudge Adam for having to pay the rent. It wasn't his fault that the writers didn't think it through.

Funniest thing though, Edward James Olmos, (commander Adama on Galactica) in one of his earliest roles as a extra on the tv series Kojak, completely changed the scene he was cast in because he didn't agree with how it was written. Kojak is supposed to walk into a bar and ask a bartender (played by Olmos) to give up some critical information that gives up the bad guys. The camera is rolling Savalas walks in hits his mark says his line and Olmos says "Cut!" Jaws drop all over the set and Olmos says to the director "If a cop walks into a bar in this neighborhood, the bartender isn't going to tell him anything." They rewrote the scene and the rest is history.

It was odd that I caught this. I don't even watch Bones, but I was flipping channels and saw him there.

It reminded me why I hate tv. This show survives but stuff like the inside gets taken off the air? Bones is so dumb. I saw Adam being bad a mile away. Everyone knows Bones and Booth will hook up eventually. And then break up eventually. And then hook up again eventually. Repeat.

Also, did anyone believe for a second that they let Booth go into that warehouse in his condition? He's a liability in that state. There's just no way.

I also agree that there's no way Bones was holding her own against Adam. That was just plain silly. Maybe one cheap shot would have gotten through, but all her sweeping his legs out and stuff is totally unbelievable.

Ok, I saw my first ever episode of Bones last night and I've got a few comments on it.

First of all, the whole awkwardness between Bones and Booth was painful. If I had a nickel every time they interrupted each other I'd be able to purchase the Firefly rights from Fox. The dancing scene was good acting, but made absolutely NO plot sense.

The whole show was more about how protective Booth was of Bones but he never really got a chance to SHOW it. And Bones never even really fought him on it. A man presuming he'd just waltz into my house and spend the night on my couch! Coworker or no, HELL NO!

The internet dating thing was a totally off-center distraction. It could have really tipped things along in the plot but never got developed enough.

Whomever wrote Adam's part should be shot. He was not likable enough in the beginning for the betrayal to even affect you. Once he mentioned the Mob assignment, that wasn't foreshadowing, it was just plain giving the plot away.

And getting his butt kicked by Bones? That man is a ROCK, there's no moving him. An FBI agent who should have experience in hand to hand combat getting his butt kicked by a doctor? Even with a lucky hit, she shoulda run and not hung out to hurt him. Idiot.

She's a forensic anthropologist and her team did all the work. Call me crazy, but I'd expect her to actually SHOW some of this genius that she's supposed to be.

Then at the end, there's no resolution with everything that happened, it was all focused on the relationship between the two. That's fine and all, but the show needs to decide on which it wants to be: cop show or soap opera.

I think this may be my last viewing of this show. I agree with my fellow above me somewhere. How can crap like this be on TV and Firefly gets cancelled?!?

You really need to see the show from the beginning to get some of the relationship between Bones and Booth. The Internet dating thing does makes sense if you watched the other episodes.

Bones does do quite a bit of the investigating, this show really was an exception to the rule. All else aside, this particular episode wasn't written as well as others.

I really do like this show and would be quite disappointed if F*x cancels it.

As to the other comments about seeing Adam on this show, I couldn't help but think "Jayne! The man they call Jayne!" every time I saw him on the screen. It was quite weird to see him sans moustache/goatee thing.

I also thought of the 90lb. girl line when Temperance tried to escape!

I also thought of "I got stupid" when he was explaining how that one mob family was really good to him.

I like Bones but come on the moment he stepped into the sceen well... after the squeeling stopped I knew he was the bad guy. And Bones would so kick a regular fed's ass not Jayne's ass but some random guy yes. The dancing makes sense to me cause who doesn't get a little dancing bug when that song comes on the radio I mean really don't lie you do a little seat dance.

I agree, you really need to have seen the show from the start. I actually really like "Bones". Listening to some of the critics here now reminds me of people who would jump into the middle of "Firefly" back in the day. They were so confused and thought that things didn't make sense. (Then they were convinced to rewatch from the start... and low and behold... Fireflyfans!)

The series has shown how Temperence can hold her own against almost anything. Kicking some out of work FBI agent's butt is nothing compared to some of the things she's had to deal with overseas in 3rd world countries. It's always fun to see her spend most of the show in the lab doing her intellectual thing and then all of a sudden you're reminded that, "Oh yeah" she can kick butt too. (I also love the interplay between Bones and Booth when she's trying to convince him that she needs a gun on their assignments...hee hee)

Overall, it's a likable show. MUCH better than a lot of that crap that's out there. Hell, they even referenced "Firefly" in an episode. It can't be all that bad...

While I agree that in the beginning Bones was a little rough around the edges I think it is only getting better. In response to those who think that Adam's character getting beat up is unrealistic should take a few things into account. One, Temperance is obviously a trained martial artist and probably very dedicated if her personality is anything to go by; two, she is not a small woman; and third, she got him off balance almost immediately. The bigger they are the harder they fall. Also, she did lose in the end. Personally I was kind of hoping she could fire a gun with her hands tied behind her back.

I like that it is a mix of life and crime solving. The interaction among the characters is meant to be enhanced by the crimes they solve and not the other way around. We've got enough of those already.

I really like this show and really enjoyed this episode - and not just because Adam Baldwin was in it. That said, I have to respectfully disagree with these points:

It's supposed to be painful - the character of Bones is pretty awkward socially. And the dancing scene makes more sense if you've seen more episodes since it was more about character development than plot.

Once again, this has been set up in prior episodes. Bones did argue with him a bit, but on the same note she had just been shot at.

Plus Booth usually doesn't take no for an answer (she spent the first few episodes trying to get him to stop calling her Bones).

And at this point, they're not just coworkers - they've spent a lot of time together in some pretty intense circumstances (ie. previous episodes) so it was believable in the context of the plot.

How much resolution was needed? They found Bones, the other murderer was already dead (and linked to the first body in the lab), and they discovered the FBI agent had killed the mob guy (the other body in the lab).

The relationship between Booth and Bones was a main part of this episode, but it's not every week, and it's been developed over time (at the beginning of the season Bones was refusing to work with Booth).

Crap is Temptation Island and Paradise Hotel (which if IRC is what replaced Firefly).

Most of the criticism directed at Bones seems based on viewing one episode in the middle of a season - which isn't fair. A lot of the character interaction in this episode was set up in previous episodes. It's like just watching Safe or Shindig - it's hard to fully appreciate those episodes without seeing what comes before them.

I've been watching Bones for a few weeks now, and I kind of like it. I agree that people shouldn't critique the show if they haven't seen any other episodes. Adam Baldwin's character was pretty predictable, though. You knew he was the bad guy right off. The only problem I have with Bones is that it is a blatent rip off of Crossing Jordan. But I just push that aside and watch it anyway.

He sure did look different all cleaned up and shaven . I know he was really GQ'd up as Marcus, but this was different. But of COURSE he had to be a bad guy, and yes, I saw that coming. I thought he might hook up w/ that one chick who noticed he had no ring on his finger. But I wish the show didn't end up in such a nice, neat package. Adam should have gotten away and been a reoccuring character, or something.

Oh, I completely agree with the Temptation Island thing. I cannot stand reality shows. This is why I like scifi and fantasy. I like my angst gussied up a bit.

I'm glad you respectfully disagree. I agree that we disagree. :) I posted my opinion on my first viewing of the show. Although, one bright spot was Boreanaz's acting. I never really got into Angel, but I see he's much more comfortable here and his ability shines through much better.

Perhaps a lot of my problems is that I do not particularly like Brennan. The character isn't believable to me.

I feel no growing need to see this show again. But if you guys like it, enjoy!

i like to think us browncoats supporting adam had a bit to do with the ratings!
I am an occasional watcher of bones (they changed the time slot gorrammit) and so I get the relationship between Booth and Bones, but Kaele is right on thing - not a big fan of temperance myself.
Still bummed that Adam won't get recurring role though....

No, he clobbers her pretty good when he is about to sacrifice her, doesn't he, but she gets her licks in!

Took me forever to recognize him. My SON actually picked up on him first: "MOM! That's JAYNE!" I just thought, gee that guy soinds awfully familiar, and looks familiar too....hmmmm...

Wish he had a recurring role though. I LIKED his character. Well, up until the sacrificing Tempe part.

Um, actually it's a blatant ripoff of Kathy Reichs books, lots of them. With a cute FBI agent added for some visual interest. :) Tempe existed long before Jordan and I don't really see the connection even tho I watch both....I love the forensic anthro stuff in Bones, showing off my geekiness I guess...
